Bond film with the LEAST humor in it?

JarvioJarvio EnglandPosts: 4,236MI6 Agent
I think QOS... I just can't remember many one-liners at all. All of Connery's, Moore's, and Brosnan's had much humor in, so did OHMSS, and even both Dalton films (cello chase, Q as bond's uncle). CR and SF had numerous funny lines too (bond not giving a damn about his martini, Kincade calling bond a jumped up little s**t). But QOS? Pretty grim most of the way through.

Thoughts?

I agree the tone of QOS is super serious. Very few one-liners

Probably QoS, despite the line about "We're schoolteachers and we've won the lottery!" CR and DN might be second and third, respectively.
By the way, are you gonna eat that?

I started to say LTK, but I have to agree that QOS has even less humor. At least LTK has Wayne Newton in it, and that fact alone is pretty funny! But then again, QOS had Elvis and his haircut! :))

I'm not so sure that FRWL counts - there are plenty of funny lines between Bond and Kerim Bey ("Not mad about his tailor, are you?" "I've had a particularly fascinating life, would you like to hear about it? You would?" And "Found your technique too violent, did she?" Etc)

QoS does seem the most serious, apart from a couple of lines with Fields ("I can't find the stationery" and "watch out, she probably has handcuffs"... "I do hope so").

Personally I love the subtle, sardonic humour - Bond needs it, it's part of his charm. The humour in Skyfall is just about right - not too slapstick and obvious, but subtle ("I did call you an exemplar of British fortitude"... "That bit was alright" and "Your interior decorating tips are always very much appreciated, 007").

But the early Connery films were probably the blueprint for the best humour in the series, Maibaum's scripts were crackling with great lines.

==When Camille gets knocked out during the boat chase sequence in Haiti Bond carries her in his arms and hands her to the attendant at the dock "She's Seasick."

==When M asks Bond what happened to the lead he followed to the hotel (can't remember the name)...
Bond: "It was a dead end"
    M: "You killed him?!?!"
Bond: "I'm not dwelling on the past and i don't think you should either."

Sure QOS has the odd funny line but , to me at least far fewer than many
    other Bonds. :)

I probably find QoS least humorous, though that is not to say the movie is completely void of laughs.

  • License to Kill. Dalton was the most serious Bond, in perhaps the most no-nonsense Bond release. Only Connery in From With Love can rival it. Sure, the tanker truck on two wheels was stupid, but take that away, and it's probably the least humorous of all the series. A serious James Bond - as is a serious James Bond release - is a good Bond (and release)

I've got to agree. The only 'stupid' part in my mind was the unnecessary cheesy ending.

QoS has been mentioned a lot ITT, but I find its got some good laughs. I always smirk a bit when the guy on the bike catches up to Bond and tells him he was supposed to shoot Camille. The way Daniel Craig delivers the "Well I missed" line before bluntly tossing him off the bike is just so well executed :)) .

Agree, that's why I rate it so highly. DC goes through the whole film looking like he's struggling with a migraine and plays the role of heartbroken lover perfectly. Bond is a man well bent on revenge in QoS so there couldn't be any time for one-liners. It's a gem.

Definitely QoS. LTK is the runner up but there is a warmth to the film, particularly in the early scenes with Felix and Della that is completely absent in QoS.

Quantum of Solace is a pretty cold, clinical film, not a bad thing as ait echoes the character at that moments and works well because of that.

You could argue that Dalton's films have less humour than Craig's, including QoS, simply cos for some of us a cold chill goes through our bones when Dalton attempts a one-liner. :# Craig isn't Mr Chuckles, but he delivers his gags serviceably for the most part.

That's one thing I like about it. No sensayuma.

Although there are still a couple scenes that crack me up: "We are teachers on sabbatical…who have just won the lottery." and "You were supposed to shoot her" "Well, I missed" and then Bond flips the bike out from under him and kicks him in the face.

Oh yeah, and Miss Fields "Oh, my gosh I'm so sorry!" after tripping Elvis down the stairs. I love that part.

Disagree. There's humour in CR, although often of a pretty dark kind.

    The car park scene.
Vesper and Bond on the train.

AVTAK was a dark film in tone, it has funny moments though.

The Siberian guard shouting Roger Moore's name as he is hanging over the ravine.

Bond knocking over a pedestrian in the Renault whilst chasing May Day
    !
Scarpine throwing his hat in the air shouting "wheyhey!"

TLD has little humour for me
Have you ever heard of the Emancipation Proclamation?"
