Slight tabloid exaggeration there. He didn't turn it down. He was a contender, but in the end, he was never offered the role. You can't turn down an offer that was never made.
I belive they never offert the part to an actor who hasn't already said "If given the chance, I'll take it." As I understand it, the producers were very keen to cast him.
Why wouldn't they want him? He was 43, a world-class actor, a several times over boxing champion, 6' 4'' tall and looked like this:

They wouldn't want him because they cast Brosnan. And then Dalton. It's pretty well documented who had screen tests at that time. He wasn't one of them.
Sorry, just don't see Neeson as a good Bond. People bag Craig for his looks -- I don't see how Neeson is any more classically handsome, or really handsome at all. He's tall, I guess. I like him as an actor, but he's not really the suave leading man type. The closest he came was Schindler's List, but there he was less suave than simply arrogant and privileged.
He would make a better villain. He could play a villain like Scaramanga.. Bondian in many ways but just more brutal and uncaring and manipulative. He probably wouldn't be a bad foil right now for Craig, since Craig plays that thin line brilliantly in CR and QoS and could really showcase how close Bond was to being a villain instead of the hero.

I wasn't aware we had full knowledge of who screen tested for Bond. If you have such a list, please share. The fact that they cast Brosnan is hardly proof they didn't want Neeson. Who knows what would have happened if Neeson had said: "If given the oportunity I would love to play Bond!" Not any of us, that's for certain.

I don't agree the German language is pathetic. A friend of mine (Accidentally) bought HALO for his Xbox in German. It turns out the tough-guy oneliners sounded much better in German than in English and we both ended up qouting the dialogue for fun.
I understand. The Scotish dialect and my Norwegian dialect share a love of the rolling R, something that sounds cool and masculine when spoken, but sounds unnerving when used in German. Also, the word 'angst' sounds best in German! )
