Watching James Bond, alone.

I don't know if you guys have the same problem as I have...But I can almost never get anybody in my family to watch a James Bond movie with me, and I don't make friends easily so most of the time, I'm watching James Bond by myself.

In fact just yesterday, I had a double feature where I watched Diamonds Are Forever and Live and Let Die by myself. However, this morning I got my mother and my father to watch The Man with the Golden Gun with me.

I also have a cousin, who is disinterested in James Bond. He just doesn't seem to like James Bond and refuses to give any of the older Bond films a chance...Just because he dislikes Skyfall.

Have no problem watching with friends or alone. Sometimes I prefer to watch alone, others I'd like a crowd. Watching through the Bond Films with my wife. She has three to go (TND, TWINE, and DAD).

    She's asleep now though, so I'm about to turn on CR and watch (and drink) alone. To hell with social norms! -{

Agree. Same with listening to music. Unless the the person you with is 100% on the same wavelength as you and then it's fun. Otherwise you have to worry about whether or not they are enjoying themselves.

On the otherhand, I do like to share Bond films with a special someone. But for the most part, I watch Bond alone. Roger Moore is the best and no one is there to disagree. :)

I have managed to gather some friends to go see all of Craig's Bonds at the cinema. Other than that I usually see Bond movies alone. I suspect that's for the best - would probably be a unsuffrable bore to watch Bond on DVD with. I would tell them all kinds of tidbits and be a horrible know-it-all :#

I used to drive my family crazy watching Bond films, especially my parents, who'd seen some of them in the theaters! I've made every girlfriend watch Bond movies with me -- and one used to say to me "The question you should ask me is what movie do I want to watch tonight, not what James Bond movie do I want to watch tonight."

There is a weird thing that happens, though. Of all the Bonds, the one I think is the most romantic is On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and every woman I've seriously dated has been the literate, intelligent sort, They can handle tragic romances, etc.
But once I show them that film, our relationships don't last much longer. It's been consistent, to the degree that I now make sure I watch that film alone, haha. I tend not to want to analyze such things, but I'm curious if the film sends some of message that I miss. Do they see me as seeing them as a "Bond girl," for instance, rather than something more meaningful. I don't think it's the sad ending that troubles them because they've all been rather amazed that a Bond movie can be deeper than just him blowing things up and seducing women. Of course, it could just be the timing in our relationship or maybe something else I'm doing. They accept readily that I'm a Bond fan, but watching that film marks a turning point.

I remember watching James Bond on the AMC Channel, here in the States...But eventually they stopped airing James Bond over here on AMC and they even had a "Goodbye Mr Bond. James Bond Marathon" to give the character a proper send-off. :#

I am another who enjoys watching Bond by myself. At the cinema I will always go twice, once with friends once alone. On the telly or DVD, I prefer it alone cause I can loose myself in the story.
The only exception is if friends are new to Bond, or not to familiar with it. It can be fun helping them fill in the blanks, to enjoy it more. Ditto Star Trek, and it goes full circle. One of my mates knows Marvel inside out, so he helps ME fill the blanks with the Avengers.

Bond is like a fine wine, or favorite chocolate. Nice to share, amazing to indulge when alone!
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

No, it was back in the late summer of 2005. When they were filming or getting ready to film Casino Royale with Daniel Craig.

Exactly! I don't want to be bothered when I'm enjoying my Bond! Fortunately that's not a problem in my home, because my wife and grandchildren are not fans and they clear the room whenever I pop in a Bond DVD or Blu-Ray! :))

I can say from personal experience that my ladyfriend was appalled and outraged by Bond cheating so freely on Tracy once he arrived at Piz Gloria. If you have no qualms about Bond's behavior, perhaps it's sending a warning signal to your date.

It's funny sometimes when my oldest daughter wanders in when I'm watching a Bond.
She's disgusted at his womanising and how sometimes Connery almost forces himself
on women. I just laugh saying " he's being an Alpha male ". :))

Yeah, I wondered about that, too, though I think they have that idea about Bond in the first place (though I'm faithful in relationships). But remember, although Bond is dating Tracy at that point, he hasn't yet told her he loves her or even that they are exclusive.
  • Charmed & DangerousCharmed & Dangerous Posts: 7,358MI6 Agent
I'm not even sure that he does love her at that point. If you recall the exchange between Tracey and Draco, when her father asks her if Bond loves her, she replies "That may come too... Some day".

It's only when Tracey rescues Bond from Blofeld, and shows him how resourceful she is, that he expresses his love... Perhaps because of gratitude, the release of tension, and perhaps too because its the first time in his life that he has met a woman his equal.
