Thanks for sharing! It is just such a lovely, iconic, and incredible film presence that the Aston Martin lends to the Bond films. I am of the age where I grew up wanting an Aston Martin (or any car, for that matter.)
I knew, though, that I wanted a DBS after seeing OHMSS at a drive-in theatre (remember those?) as a 9 year old.
Took about 40 years, and my dream came true.
I'm very grateful to be the custodian of one of those cars from the films, my favourite film.
I am of the belief that one does not own a work of art, but is the custodian of such, and should preserve and pass it on for future generations.
I know that my nephew is plotting my end as I write this...
ps The "Goldfinger" gold plated mini car offered for the 50th IMHO is gaudy and will probably go for big $$...
    Cheers, Tom

I'll take a look at both of these sites. I wouldn't be able to resist driving around in Bond's OHMSS Aston with the opening titles music playing while speeding along a beach road looking for ladies.

Ha! When I restored Her Majesty's DBS, I had "Radio Roy" (yup, there IS a guy who actually works on...radios!) restore the original radio to take an IPOD, so I do play a special mix of OHMSS music during concours and appearances. When driving about, I do put on "Other Feller" quite frequently.
Great driving music. Great fun in that car. I love how my clothes smell of oil, English leather, and petrol after driving her.
Showing the car next weekend at the Danville d' Elegance. Debut of the Gucci bag that Lazenby had throughout the film.
    Will share pics next week.
    Cheers, and thank you,
    Tom
ps Have alook at BondCollectorsWeekend too, really some cool trips. Hope to go on one someday.

I am working on recreating the Portugal Palacio Hotel entrance scene here in San Francisco.
Using the Fairmont Hotel as a double for the Palacio. Have to line up permission, a photographer, and bellboy, and amybe a pal of mines red Camaro convertible which may double for the Cougar.

Which iPod, what with the classic having been retired my Apple this month?

The recreation sounds interesting. Wow, the Fairmont. I haven't been there since my senior prom. Way too many years ago. I look forward to the pics. BTW, I sent you a PM. Please check your inbox.

Gorgeous colour! Wow, and next to a Spitfire no less. Agree with TP, love the FYEO decal!
Absolutely a lovely colour combo you have chosen, and the number plate also looks either bespoke, or you paid a fortune to get it!
    Cheers, Tom
ps Are you in the AMOC?

    Thanks Tom,

It's Tungsten Silver and yes, you are correct, the number plate did cost me a little more but I couldn't resist! B-)
It's a great car and I'm very happy with it. {[]
And, no, I'm not an AMOC member.

Just to let you guys know that the DB5 has arrived in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Sure it will be one of the eyecatchers on the exposition Desigining 007 50 years of Bond style. Exposition starts October 2014. I will visit it of course and post some pictures on this great forum.

    Best regards Jan

A few recent DB5 mentions online today -

Photos of the DBs for sale at Bonham's Aston Martin Works auction which is tomorrow, 9 May - http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/08/world/gallery/aston-martin-works-bonhams/index.html

Some beauties on offer, some amazing prices fetched, but somehow something was missing from this yrs auction..

Oh I know what it was, the sight of two money-no-object old astonians fighting over one of these..

It's worth going through the results chaps.... Many of you will have items sold today, and will be grinning from Newport pagnall to Windsor and Eton...

Take for example this one... I'd bet many of you have one of these....

    http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/22721/lot/165/

    Nearly £ 5,000 8-)

Then again, either these are stock photos, or the poor "investor" has come back to try to salvage some of the £ 6k he "invested" a while ago... http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/20927/lot/120/

Though this one has always been the most talked about example of astonian rutting...
http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/15340/lot/75/ And will take some beating... I was there and this was more a ménage a trios than a simple mating....

Now I'm no poster geek, about the only bond I don't collect, but I'm struggling to see the value in these..

    http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/22721/lot/121/

However I've always thought, price is the child of the consenting intercourse between two adults, and as such, should remain a thing of great love and joy...

But of course, monied, old astonians should not be allowed to inter-breed, lest the offspring look like these..

Having been to a couple of Bonham's NP auctions now, with the GBP 175 lunch, I can safely say that it is the best place to SELL your Aston, and the worst place to BUY anything!
We are competing against Dubai money, and those wealthy patrons who are present who just "want one." The Silicon Valley 20-something millionaires are the worst.
Hence, the 750 Pound posters, the manuals going for steeeupid money, and the never ending bids on a Volante barn find.
It is a place to be seen, show off, and just bid play money on things you want at the moment. Those who buy articles there are not Ebayers, and just do an impulse buy, as the money is burning in their pockets.

If I ever sold my DBS, it would be there.
If I ever bought another Aston, it would NOT be there!

It really is fun to mingle at that event, though.
    Cheers, Tom

With all these prices, one wonders if the Bonams' clientele has not heard of a thing called internet :D

The phrase 'more money than sense' comes to mind but I can't help think that some of the inflated prices must be down to a certain sense of maintaining face and keeping up with the jones', or arabs as the case may be.

I guess when showing your latest acquisition off to your loaded mates, stating you paid '£5k for your DB5 model at Newport Pagnell, the home of Aston Martin' carries more status than announcing you got 'a bargain for a couple of hundred quid off some bloke in Cardiff via ebay.'

That's it! Looks like you got the point.
Bragging and status rights are very important to the rich, again, most of the buys there are impulse buys of the non automobiles.
And yes, they don't shop on Ebay, their employees and servants do!

I can't get over how much those factory manuals go for. GBP 1500 for a DB4 Zagato one, that can be found on Ebay for a few hundred.
Has a lovely picture of the car in it, though.

We regulars cannot compete with Dubai Oil money, nor Silicon Valley new rich. The latter are driving out families from the San Francisco Bay Area with their coffee houses and $4000 per month for a 1 bedroom rent!
Those ba****ds at Googe, Oracle, Cisco, etc have an entire staff dedicated to contacting landlords, and offering more money if they take in the company's employees, kicking out loyal tenants. Happened to me!!

Maybe my mom was right- she rails against the evils of computers and the internet. I believed her until I bought a lovley Bond collectible on Ebay. Now I just smile...

    err, jumping on conclusions?

You and me know an AM guy who's also a Bond collector and I consider him to be pretty rich.
He's not having servants, does not brag and does not need status symbols ;)
