'Everything Or Nothing' - why so sped up?

I'm watching the Everything Or Nothing documentary for the first time...
Is anyone else bothered that some clips are quite obviously sped up, and the actors sound as though they've ingested helium? Footage of Sean from the DAF era seems to suffer from this the worst, as does the clip of Roger pushing the boy with the elephant out of the boat.
