Yes, of course I'd have relished the chance to contribute something though I'd have needed to have refreshed my memory on a few things. Anyway, I told the kind lady that I was available if there was anything else in the future.  ajb007/martini

Re: Anthony Horowitz's Trigger Mortis (2015) Discussion Thread

James Bond sat behind the wheel of his sports car, it was very nice and
could go really fast. The nasty man in a van drove up firing a big gun. Bond
Turned and fired his gun, which was much better than the bad man's.
"Oh", the bad man called as Bond shot him, quickly Bond ran across and knocked
The gun from the bad mans hand.  "  you are not very nice and very bad " said Bond.
Bond's girlfriend ran over and gave him a kiss. The end.

There you go, Thriller gold there.  ajb007/wink

Ah yes ! I can see the hidden symbolism in your use of " Bread and Milk" to
Represent home comforts or  " Old Britain"  with his " taking them home"  his
Job of protecting them.  ajb007/martini  very well done. Will Poisoned Chalice, be the title.  ajb007/wink

Re: Anthony Horowitz's Trigger Mortis (2015) Discussion Thread

As a matter of interest has anyone read any if his   Alex Rider books ?
I think it's funny  that he wrote a series of successful teen spy stories,
Which I'm sure helped bring about the Young Bond books and now he
Is getting a chance to write a Bond novel, which helped start the whole
Modern spy genre !  ajb007/biggrin  It's like one of those "Time Paradox " things from
Science Fiction stories.

Thanks for an on-topic post- I've deleted the 6 preceding ones.

Re: Anthony Horowitz's Trigger Mortis (2015) Discussion Thread

The 50s  setting ( if true) , I wonder if this might be not only because
Of the unused Fleming notes etc but also in an  nostalgic throw back
To a happier time for Britain.
Having re-read the Fleming books, it is almost like a warm blanket to
Read about Britain being a world power (Equal partners with America).
Having real control of world events, unlike our place in today's  world
As mainly just a minor member of the EU. ?

42

Re: Anthony Horowitz's Trigger Mortis (2015) Discussion Thread

Even when Fleming was writing the novels, Britain's status as a world power had grossly diminished. That was the cost of winning WW2. The Suez crisis in the 50s showed how much Britain's power/status/influence had suffered.
Amis makes the point that Bond's adventures were wish-fulfillment for a needy UK public- Chapter 9 of his "Dossier" goes into detail on this. Fleming provided a warm blanket when it was needed. And, perhaps, it still is.

Re: Anthony Horowitz's Trigger Mortis (2015) Discussion Thread

The 50s in general seem to have been also a more hopeful time.
After the drudgery of the 40s ( for obvious reasons) .  Also given
Horowitz's past writing with a younger spy, I was thinking might
This Book be a sort of set up novel, Bond before he got his " 00"
Status, not as a teen spy but expanding on an earlier mission ?

44

Re: Anthony Horowitz's Trigger Mortis (2015) Discussion Thread

Oh dear, I hope not. That ground has been covered. Just a straightforward 007 adventure- there will never be enough of those!

Re: Anthony Horowitz's Trigger Mortis (2015) Discussion Thread

ajb007/lol  I'm just mulling over a few ideas, I too  would prefer a straightforward
Bond novel.............. But if it turns out to be a setup story. You heard it hear

Re: Anthony Horowitz's Trigger Mortis (2015) Discussion Thread

The Idea of a Bond before his 00 Status, ala CR 06 but in Novel Form is interesting. Fleming covered this in CR but a full Novel based on those Events could be a good Idea  ajb007/martini

I think there's zero chance of a CR prequel, a lit how Bond became Bond.

The movie went down that route - with varying degrees of success - and a novel would be instantly compared with that. For better or worse.

I wonder if anyone would be interested in another book of short stories.
Detailing perhaps Bond's war experiences ? Perhaps asking several
Contemporary writers to contribute, a sort of ....
