    Thanks for the heads up. I may not make this evening, but I've initially bought membership and tickets for the Eon run from next week's FRWL through to TMWTGG.

    If anyone fancies a quick drink before any of the FRWT > TMWTGG screenings there are one or two watering holes in Leicester Square, not necessarily too crowded on a Sunday evening...

    Just watched FRWL. The Prince Charles is the best cinema I've ever been in. The atmosphere was fantastic.

    It was a large crowd for a Sunday evening at the Prince Charles. On balance I prefer the BFI Southbank as a rep cinema to the Prince Charles because the BFI has a no eating rule. Tonight I was sitting near some guy chomping his way through a big box of popcorn... the rustling and crunching were a disruptive distraction from the sound design of the film, which in the pre-credits 'stalking' sequence includes similar sounds of crunching and snapping (the crunching of footsteps on the gravel and the snapping of the branch which gives away Grant to the Bond surrogate). Later on, hipsters in the audience made a point of loudly/ironically guffawing at the movie's knowingly outrageous sexism - e.g. Popcorn's gf called out "Bitch fight!!" over the girl fight at the gypsy camp, and protested that Bond had left his bath tap running in the bridal suite before jumping into bed with Tania for the night. The Prince Charles is a noisier experience than the BFI: some might enjoy that as 'atmosphere', or if you're like me you prefer impeccable audience behaviour. Still, it's always good to see vintage Bond on a big screen.

    I seem to have missed the first three. Dr No is the one I really wanted to see on the big screen, but I might catch TB, OHMSS is another. Shame they are coinciding with ITV reshowing them all, still.

    What are the prints like? Are they shown in the upstairs or downstairs cinema?

    I was there at FRWL and will be popping along to as many as possible - if anybody fancies meeting up for a drink beforehand let's do it!

    Interesting complaints about the noise during FRWL - to be honest, I really enjoyed the atmosphere - it reminded me how fun these films are supposed to be. I had never realised how funny even FRWL - one of the most 'serious' Bond films - actually is, watching these films with a bunch of people is a really nice experience.

    FRWL was in The Prince Charles downstairs cinema. It was a high quality restored picture, I believe from Park Circus, as screened a couple of years ago at the BFI Southbank. (I remember from the BFI programme that most of the 60s and 70s Bonds had been restored by Park Circus - but that TMWTGG was an exception, screened in a faded and scratched original print. I'm hoping that the Prince Charles will be showing a restored print of TMWTGG this time.)

    Happy to meet up for a drink in Leicester Square for half an hour or so before either TB or YOLT - Private Message me. (By the way, I have a ticket for the OHMSS screening which I'm happy to give away in advance, as I'm not now going to be around on 15th Feb.)

    Granted, audience reaction in the cinema enhances enjoyment when it works with the grain of the film - and many lines and moments in FRWL are quite funny. (For example, Tania's line, "Even if you kill me I can say nothing!" is so ridiculous it always raises a smile with me, despite the drama of the scene in which she says it. I'm also amused by a couple of Bond's cheeky interventions during the fight between the Bulgars and gypsies, where he improvises taking out pairs of struggling opponents indiscriminately.) But at the risk of sounding like a grumpy killjoy, I'm turned off by ostentatious over-reactions by the sometimes more attention-seeking contingents among cinema audiences. The Prince Charles has a bit of a tradition with that, encouraged by its sing-a-long screenings and fanathons, etc. When all's said and done, it's great anyway to have the chance to catch classic Bond on the big screen again with a cinema audience.

    Regarding the behaviour of cinema goers: my GF and I refuse now to go to Cinemark or any mainstream theatres, with one exception: The Hobbit. From now on, we frequent only theatres which either show revivals, or wait till our smaller local one screeners have the film we want to see. I am sorry that the chap who saw FRWL had it ruined by some imbecile chomping away on popcorn.
    We both are weary of the cinema goers who think that they are at home in their living room.
    I even went to see Hob with a pal of mine and his daughter. I was appalled, as she asked questions of him during the film, and then fidgeted non stop, as she is a phone addict like most of the youngsters. Had to see it again on my own, late at night!
    Hate the unwashed masses in theatres!
    You chaps in the UK may not have to put up with another gem that we do in Ca: our lovely imports find it amusing to talk to each other in their native language, which is ok in their country, but not in ours, during the film.
    Next, it's the techies and their facebook scrolling, holding the phone up high whilst they slouch in their seat, up until the film starts, or even after.
    Even with THREE warnings from the theatres, idiots still think that nobody sees them (I do!) and they could care less who they bother, so as not to miss an instagram!
    Yet more lovely ones are the power mothers who bring their under aged kids to an R rated film!

    I must say that there are pockets of community theatres here in San Francisco, like the Castro, that have well behaved, and enthusiastic audiences.
    So, we now have to pick and choose our theatres wisely.
    Most of the new films out there, I can wait a few months to see anyway.
    NOT going to see SPECTRE unless its a Bond crowd!
    probably will see in a private screening w AMOC members. $100 per ticket will be a small price to pay for not having that popcorn swilling idiot in my vicinity.
    Don't get me started....

    It appears that London's Prince Charles is redoing its Bond season for 2016! :)

    This time including Spectre.

    Agreed, it would be a thrill to see some of those older films on a proper cinema screen.
    The likes of TB and YOLT must look amazing. -{

    Well, imo OHMSS holds up best on the big screen, because it seems to have hardly dated, even having a younger Bond fits with today's heroes. The editing is also modern. I say that, though it isn't my fave film. Dr No also works well, but not all of them are better than watching on telly. And YOLT needs a larger screen that PC imo to do it justice.

    I'm always glad to hear that OHMSS holds up well on the big screen as it's my favourite of the Bond films. :) -{
