Recent Bond Posters --- Lack of Creativity?

I wanted to bring this up to the rest of the forum and get everyone's opinions.

That being said, IMO I feel Die Another Day gave us the last visually appealing Bond poster we'll be seeing for awhile.

CR wasn't necessarily terrible, but very ordinary. The blue color scheme gave it a melancholy feel, opposed to the previous twenty that all incorporated many bright, stunning colors of the spectrum. There was not much composition to this one, besides Vesper lurking in the background. Not much going on here.

QOS was even worse than CR. While Craig and Kurylenko are attractive faces, that's all the poster has to offer. There's nothing else involved besides the smoke funneling into the air behind them. An extremely bland poster for a rather dull film. The poster just seems empty. Maybe that's what they were aiming for? Who knows.

SF is an interesting case. I remember the hype surrounding the first teaser poster to be released. It was Craig walking down a tunnel that was designed as a gunbarrel. I remember thinking... okay, that's cool. But I can't wait to see the theatrical poster! This was it. It was either the black gunbarrel poster or Craig in front of the 007 logo on a white background.

We've gone astray from the eye-popping visuals of the previous 20 films. Of course we won't return to the hand-drawings, unfortunately, but with the digital technology we have today, I've been expecting posters more visually stunning than ever before.

What do you guys think about the last three posters? What should we expect for Spectre? I hope the octopus bullet-hole isn't the theatrical poster, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case. Thoughts?

I thought that the SF Poster was very well done {[] London in the Gunbarrel itself.

If you want bland Posters for the older Films, then the Poster's for LTK where rather dull. But this was down to the Name Change and all of the already created Promotional Material had to be chucked in the Bin.

I like the CR poster quite a bit. I think it sets just the right tone for the film. The QOS and SF posters are just okay to me.

There were a number of variations of the CR poster. Some worked better than others. The QOS poster was pretty dull I thought. I quite liked the Skyfall teaser and it's barrel/undeground simplicity.

I would love a more retro action poster for Spectre but not sure it'll materialise. Mind you, if they really are giving so many nods to OHMSS, you just never know.. :)

The last great poster (and one of the best of the series) was TLD.

Here are the Casino Royale posters I think are best:

    +1 TLD poster is awesome.

I liked the one best for Casino Royale where DC is sitting at the poker table with his hand on the PPK (the gun which incidentally was not used in the film).

I agree on both counts. The full TLD poster is excellent & the CR one with Bond at the poker table is the best of his three films & should have been used as the final poster. QOS is underwhelming & SF could well be the laziest Bond poster since LTK. Even more baffling considering all the effort that went into making that film one of such quality.

The teaser posters for the last three have been really good; it's the final one-sheets that are crap.

Movie posters in general today are pretty cheesy. They're usually just a close up of the actor and a minimalist amount of background. If you want to see great movie posters, you have to go back 50 years or more.

I agree that the Daniel Craig films have had very bland and uninspired main posters. I think they all had reasonably good teasers though, I especially like the one for Casino Royale.

The CR campaign was marvellous. OoS was just a CR copy and paste, and SF was unimaginative and also misleading. I though they had brought back the old gunbarrel, and they hadn't.

The last good poster IMO was this one for TWINE:

But IMO the best were the McGinnis posters of the 60s:

They still had nice movie posters in the 80s.......imo the only posters today that are decent are the recent Batman ones , at least they show a bit of creativity and not just the usual 15 min photo shop work.
