For the folks in San Francisco Bay Area, I just saw this in my Goldstar daily email.

Unfortunately I won't be able to take time off of work to drive up to SF to go. I wish I could! But hopefully someone here can make it. :)

    Thanks for the heads up!
Will be wearing my Lazenby Gumbold's Safe Glen Check (Matt S's favourite!).
I think the Brown Lock Trilby will go well with that ensemble.
If it's still hot, then the Portugal Cream Linen job should do me nicely....

    Should be great fun!
    Cheers,
    Tom

Just spoke w the Symphony Director today.
I am happy to announce that my Aston Martin DBS will be displayed in front of the Symphony Hall before and during the performance!
The Director was very excited about having the Bond car there, and it will add value and excitement to the event.
Hope to get a personal pic with Sheena...
    Will post pics.
    Lilusako- will you be there?
    Cheers, Tom

"The Spy Who Loved Me" SF Symphony at the Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco on Thursday, July 23 featured two "Bond" cars, from OHMSS: the 1969 Aston Martin DBS, and the Mercury Cougar.
Both cars have been displayed together: the "Palacio" re enactment of last November, and the OHMSS screening at the Castro Theatre, another SF event.

This was a night to remember!
First, upon our arrival, the Symphony had assigned personal ushers to us, and security.
We were treated to use of the hospitality suite, and even given refreshments, and to top it off, Orchestra tickets!
Mark Smith and his wife Joyce brought their lovely little Cougar, and joined Amanda and I for a most memorable event.

Greeting the large sold out crowd, we did interviews, posed for photos-many of the early onlookers were performers themselves, and marveled at what became a 500+ person crowd for about 2 hours. We just had enough time to get to our seats, and enjoy the fantastic show. One note is that a chap started talking to me about Astons, and finally revealed that he was a fellow whom I had been corresponding with over the years, and he has finally bought a DBS V8 from Germany, and it should be arriving in a month!
So many Bond fans in SF, many great costumes, evening wear, etc.

I will post further pics as they become available....including the ones that you all have been waiting for....

Wore my Lazenby Gumbold's Safe suit (a Matt S. favourite!) complete w Cheaney Monk Strap shoes, and my PPK replica in a lovely Don Grant shoulder holster. Naturally forgot to take a pic of that. Was very, very busy doing speeches about the cars. So much loving interest from the public, and SF Symphony performers.
By now, I can confirm that OHMSS is revered by baby boomers, and young alike.
Was wonderful to meet so many younger people, who not only knew what the car was, but the film itself. One little boy asked if my wife was ok...priceless!

    Now, for the show...
It is such a special feeling to hear a symphony. Now, take your favourite music in the world, Bond music, and enjoy it with other like minded fans, and it is a magical evening.
Scott Coulter was funny, witty, and wonderful. His reverence for the Bond cannon was delightful, and then the main event...Sheena Easton!
I cannot tell you in writing what a magical, charismatic, and sensuous performer she is! So much more than a pop star, this true veteran really researched her choices for the performance, and spoke with respect and wonder of Dame Shirley Bassey, and others.
Her rendition of Skyfall was worthy of her on the title track. She can still belt out the notes!
She electrified the crowd to THREE standing ovations!

But, that's not all....directly after the show, our personal usher escorted us through the tunnels and mazes of the Symphony Hall, where we met the performers, who all thanked us again for bringing the cars, and Scott Coulter, who is a Bond fan.
Next, Ms. Easton entered the room!
What a gracious, lovely, and witty performer she is!
I have been in show biz for about 20 years, and I can safely say that Sheena Easton is truly an engaging and gracious lady!
She took the time to learn our names, and chat with each one of us. Amanda shared that she had a Sheena hairdo in the 1980's, and the two began chatting away about hair.
Hey, wait, I wanted to talk with her about Bond stuff, like what Roger Moore has for breakfast, and what colour was Maurice Binder's shirt, you know, important thing like that!

Finally got my chance, and it was truly a dream.
She graciously signed the placards that had been made for the car display, and posed for photos with us.

A night all made possible by a simple e-mail to the SF Symphony, and that Aston Martin.
I must say that we have done some wonderful Bond events with that car over the years. The experiences that we have shared have made all the sacrifice and cost well worth it.

Note: Pics w Sheena Easton will be forthcoming from their Official Photographer.
We just have to be patient, but for now, please enjoy...

    Cheers,
    Tom

Long shot of our arrival. Very warm day, even for SF. An hour later, and the sidewalk and lobby were filled to capacity!

Amanda, myself (in the Glen Checker) with Mark Smith and his wife Joyce, with their Cougar. They are active in the Stray Cats Cougar Club. Mark wants a 69 Convertible...someday!

Oh man what an awesome report! I'm jealous that I couldn't make it. There was no way I would have been able to take the time off of work to go... so I'm glad you were able to go and I can live vicariously through your post. :))

Well, I must thank you, as I probably would have missed the event if you had not been so kind as to post it here!
I was corresponding with a symphony performer, who is a huge 007 fan. Turned her on to this site!
Hope we have a new member...she will probably be active in the music section.

    Thank you again,
    Tom
