If Fleming came back to life for 3 hours, and you can show him 1 movie

To show him how far his series has come. What would it be?

3 hours isn't enough time. There's two eras, the Connery-Brosnan era and the rebooted era. In the old era I'd probably show For Your Eyes only, maybe License to Kill. In the new era it would be Casino Royale. If I'm forced to choose only one, I'd go for Casino Royale.

Ohmss without a doubt. It was his best story and the film is closer to the book than any other.

God forbid you'd show him moonraker!

Can we make it four hours?
I would start by telling him that his character is in safe hands and then proceed to play him MR and DAD double bill - refreshments after MR. I will let you all know if he has a sense of humour.

If there was time, I like what Wicker Man said- show him MR/DAD and watch his reactions, then mollify/reassure him with OHMSS/CR.

I'd show him the way to the SBS and after spending 1 hour with TP, he'd be begging to return to where he came from :D

I wonder how Fleming would react to all the changes to CR. I don't think he would approve of poker. I'm not sure he would like Daniel Craig either. Ian Fleming wanted someone more refined to play Bond, and Daniel Craig is certainly not David Niven. Perhaps show Fleming the '67 Casino Royale so he can see his pick for Bond in action!

:)) He did see CR54, would have hated CR67 (undoubtedly)... but not Niven, but I think he would have liked the 2nd half of CR06... though not Craig.

I saw CR06 a 3rd time yesterday and I thought about how Fleming would react. I agree the first hour would have puzzled him because it wasn't in the book and Fleming wouldn't identify with terrorism replacing the Cold War as the world's biggest threat like we do. The 2nd half of CR06, I agree.

Why do you say he wouldn't have liked Craig? In a number of ways, he's much truer to the character than Connery was. Purely on Craig's physical features, or would Fleming find him a bit morose?

Instresting concept AC! I would probably go with Licence to Kill myself. ( :D ) I think it could defenitely be one that he would approve! Although it's hard to say what he would think really, I heared he even thought Dr. No was dreadful (from what I gather) ...

I personally didn't like OHMSS but it's defenitely another one he should see!

Fleming disliked the early Connery movies but greatly respected their success at the same time. I'm not sure which one, if any, he'd truly like. He's from a different generation than we are. I never saw him as an all-or-nothing snob like Ayn Rand, but Fleming does seem very precise about his work.

From what it seems like, Fleming wanted more of a down to earth Bond. The fast-cut action and the camp probably would offput him. But once you sell your ideas, they're not yours anymore.

Funny how we'd show him OHMSS, CR06 and such, when he might just be a big TMWTGG fan.

As far as I'm concerned he only got to see Dr. No and From Russia With Love. He died before he could see the enormous phenomenon cinematic Bond truly became with the third movie. (He was on the set of Goldfinger though)

On this topic though, what I always found to be really strange is that Sean Connery said in an interview behind the scenes of Diamonds Are Forever that Fleming was also on the set on the bahamas for Thunderball. I always assumed he already died by that point. So apparantely Connery was either having a false memory or they started filming Thunderball rediciously early before Goldfinger even hit the theatre's. (I guess it's possible, since they were still releasing the films in concecutive years back then...)

Anybody else know if Fleming was actually on the set of Thunderball??

Well, Fleming approved of Connery in the role after he saw him. Craig, however, is even further from the gentleman that Fleming wanted Bond to be. Connery was turned into a gentleman for Bond, but Craig has not. The looks, too, would probably turn off Fleming.

On Her Majestys Secret Service for sure. Or maybe we could show him Austin Powers and tell him it is a Bond film just to see his reaction!

    ummm...

Fleming would have loved the early ones but would have hated the OTT ones which would have occured about YOLT. He'd have been very snobbish about the Moore Bonds. He would have enjoyed the Dalton Bonds..

The Brosnan Bonds? Oh dear - what kind of embarasment is this? And would have probably resulted in legal action to get his name off the titles. Craig would have brought him back to the fold - he'd have enjoyed those. And would have worked with eon on them himself. You can see him do background work in Skyfall or do research into Severine..

Just to go with the crowd, I'd show him On Her Majesty's Secret Service. I really think it's the best Fleming book and, as it is so close to the book, the best film (or at least one of them). I think Fleming would have approved of this one...

I would show him CR so that he could see how JB has evolved since his death. He'd be smart enough to know that Bond would have had to adapt for changing times and he would have appreciated the need for a re-boot. Whether or not he would have liked what was cinematically done to his character is another matter all together!

It would be a tough choice for me. OHMSS would be a natural as it was probably the closest to his novels after FRWL. I think he would have appreciated that and found it humorous that they chose an Australian model to play Bond, though I think he would have been fine with it. However, CR would also be a good one as he could see how it was updated for our modern times and I think he would have liked Craig's portrayal as it showed the cruel, cold and violent side of the character. He may be surprised at first sight of Craig's appearance as Bond, but as with Connery I think he would have accepted him for his performance.

As to his ideal casting choices for Bond, ie David Niven, Stewart Granger, etc., one has to keep in mind that he also thought his friend Noel Coward could have played Dr. No (and when he asked him Coward replied "No....a thousand times No!". Coward always had great replies.
Niven was friends with Coward and Fleming (he stayed at Coward's place near Goldeneye and the poor actor came down with chicken pox on his first visit!), so it's easy to see why he would have been another choice of Fleming to play Bond. Also, when Fleming met Niven during the war Niven was a Royal Commando, so it was another check mark in his favor. This shows the problem with not being objective when it comes to casting film roles for your own novels. The only ones that Fleming liked that really would have worked would have been Stewart Granger and Cary Grant. The problem was that by the time EON started making the series they were all too old for the part
    - even Niven turned fifty in 1960.

Good post Commander. Can I point out though that David Niven was a member of the Army Commando not the Royal Marines.
