Craig would rather slit his own wrists than play Bond again.

Interesting....the interview was conducted 8 days after the film was completed. I'm pretty sure he was tired and grumpy. I'm pretty sure he will be back for one more.

There was another recent article that he was quoted as saying he would continue to do them as long as his body could take it.. Who knows

can't believe the tabloids. He is probably just tired after filming SPECTRE - that movie must have worn him the hell out. Yeah that interview was 8 days after filming.

This article is newer, from 5 days ago. he said he would keep doing it as long as he is physically able http://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/films/609316/Daniel-Craig-James-Bond-not-retire-Idris-Elba-black-Bond

He thought about quitting during the filming of Quantum and Skyfall too. But he's proud his work at the end of the day.

I don't think he's out for the long haul, note what he said:

"Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on,"

Consider, too, that now comes the bit he really "enjoys" ;) - promoting the film.

    He'll be back.

This line pretty much confirms it: However, when pressed if he'd like to move on for good from the role of 007, Craig was a bit more diplomatic -- and stressed that he needs a good long vacation before even considering coming back.

If he's bored he should go. I don't want another performance
like Connery in DAF, who was bored and only did it for the
Money ( for his charity, admittedly ) but just going through
    the motions.

    Exactly...

Asking him eight days after the film is asking for trouble...

I agree 100% with this, no dial-it-in performances please. If he has had enough he should let it go to someone who will be hungry to get started with it.

Precisely, he is probably still feeling aches and pains from some of the stunts, and I bet the knee injury is still giving him some grief now and then.

I don't believe the hype. They probably took just that phrase, and deleted what he said before or after. He'll be back for 25, and then leave. That's my guess.

I agree with you. Yet, I don't think Craig is capable of just "going through the motions." Say what you will about him, he obviously takes his work on the Bond films very seriously and I don't think he'd ever give less than 100%. His advice to the next actor ("don't be ****!") supports this notion as well.

Objectively, Connery was poor in both YOLT and DAF. He was playing the caricature rather than the character at that point and he was bored with the whole thing. But I digress...

I never said he did, and I agree his commitment is 100%. What I mean is that it would be a shame if he got bored with it and that showed a little. Even though he is a good actor, and plays the role very well, it's more of a feeling when someone is bored with something, and that can show through regardless.

The key thing I thought was this comment:
You want to move on from Bond for good?
‘I haven’t given it any thought. For at least a year or two, I just don’t want to think about it. I don’t know what the next step is. I’ve no idea. Not because I’m trying to be cagey. Who the **** knows? At the moment, we’ve done it. I’m not in discussion with anybody about anything. If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money.’

Brutally honest? Or suggesting he doesn't care about the role? Personally, I find his comments a tad ungrateful sounding. It's like he'll be doing us a favour if he returns. "If you pay me enough I'll endure it one more time" kinda vibe. 8-)

I dunno, perhaps Craig has blown it coming out with this comment? Time will tell.

One thing is for sure is that in nearly every interview that's been given to him and asked this question, He's basically said that he needs time to think about it, and appears in more recent interviews (the DailyMail one) to say that he will probably continue.

He was just tired when they asked him that back then.

Also, they're probably negotiating already the Bond25 contract, so this might be part of Daniel's strategy to get more points.

He has often made ungrateful comments throughout his Bond tenure. But not everyone can be as positive as Roger Moore about everything.

I've read a similar interview, where he was even quoted saying: "If I were to return for 007, I would only do it for the money".. Of course I don't know how much of this is actually true... Bretty harsh though, was not expecting that at all! Especially since only recently I've read somewhere else that he signed on for two more Bond movies, quite the contradiction! :s
