Trunk Club Experience- James Bond and Steve McQueen Inspired Clothing

Hey everyone,

As a regular AJB007 reader, I thought I would share a James Bond/Daniel Craig/Steve McQueen related experience I recently had with Trunk Club. Please know that I am not affiliated with the company in any way and just signed up via a facebook post one of my friends shared. If you haven't heard of them, Trunk Club is a clothing service for men that assigns you a stylist and sends you a trunk of clothing items to try on at home, based on your wants and needs. They are a United States service and I am not sure if they ship internationally. Trunk Club is a more high end service, as there are others like Bombfell that provide more budget friendly clothes. The nice thing is you get to preview the items and can then turn down or request changes before the trunk is sent to you. You return what you don't want and are only charged for what you keep.

Anyway, I started using them about a year ago and would only request a trunk every so often and really only keep one or two items as everything is quite expensive. A few months ago I then got a message from my stylist asking if I was ready for another trunk. At that time I had just seen a lot of Steve McQueen movies and really liked his style as it is emulated by DC both in the streets and in the Bond films. Not knowing if the stylist was a real person or just a computer algorithm, I replied to the email and said "I am interested in a trunk, but want one with clothes inspired by Steve McQueen and other classic styles. Is that something you can put together?". The next day I got an email with a message that she also likes that style and did some research and has put together some items for me to preview. I was extremely impressed as the trunk included JV suede chukkas, Billy Reid chinos, a travel jacket (not Barbour, but very similar), and some other items that were very McQueenish. Unfortunately for my wallet, it was an expensive charge that trunk :) I left her great feedback and she

Just last month, she emailed and said she was planning on sending me a preview to review in the next couple days, "but wanted to see if there was anything in particular you wanted to focus on this time around." This time I told her I was a big fan of Daniel Craig’s James Bond which is very similar to Steve McQueen’s style and asked if she could you put some things together inspired by those looks. She again did a great job and I plucked a few of the pieces including a theory shirt which looks very similar to the Orlebar Brown type Morrocan shirt from Spectre, as well as a shawl cardigan from Rag & Bone that looked straight out of Casino Royale. It is my understanding that you can request certain individual items from the stylist as well, but I haven't tried that yet.

Anyway, in light of some of the recent discussions on the issues with the Matchless company's customer service, I just wanted to share a good company experience I had and pass along the information in case anyone here wants to try it out. As I mentioned, I am not affiliated with the company in any way and am only a customer. I will say one thing that is cool is if you refer someone to them and they spend $50, you get a credit for $50. I am including my referral link which should hook you up with my stylist Jacquie directly, but you by no means need to go through me and are absolutely free to sign up on your own as I am not motivated to get the credit, rather just to share my experience with other bond fans. However, if you would use my invite code that would be excellent too :) If you want to connect through me just go to http://www.trunkclub.com/my/invite/Q2AZJN and sign up. Once you sign up, you could probably just let Jacquie know that you also want DC/McQueen/JB inspired items and she should be able to hook you up. I plan on asking if she can find some alternatives to some of the pricey Tom Ford items from Spectre to see if she finds something different.

Again, this is not meant to be an advertisement, but rather me sharing a very cool experience getting some Bond related clothing.

Thanks!
Ethan
