I'm in Bond withdrawal already...

So I saw SPECTRE twice, I even watched Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall before that....now it may be 2-3 years before we get another new Bond movie...I'm having to get through the day with martinis -{ and old movies..

What do I need to do, doc? 8-)

I only ended up seeing Spectre twice in cinema (In the Craig era I've seen most of the films 4 times on the big screen) so I am certainly ready for Spectre to appear on Blu-Ray in my lounge.

For Bond withdrawal symptoms, I can recommend reading the books again,
    and of course discussing the sh*t out of everything Bond on AJB007. -{

Either that or download loads of porn........... Works for me. ;) :D

Unless something radical is announced (radical good, not the casting of a hunchback as the new 007) I think that I'm a bit jaded to be honest. I have tried really hard to like SP but can't get beyond 'meh it was ok' still a Bond fan and love discussing the shiz out of the films and novels of course but the disappointment has not left
To me hungry for more unless EON demonstrate that they have some good ideas and a much better script I'm done for now.Ta ta as far as SP is concerned at least. As with QOS I'm genuinely pleased that others have found more to enjoy than I have. B-) Now where is that Thunderball thread...

One of the great things about AJB007, is the diverse opinions. It took me a long time
to appreciate QOS, ( after the brilliant CR) in fact I hated it. I ranted against it for
ages ( almost to the extent of preaching on the street with my two hooks for hands) ;)
Thankfully ( for me at least) getting into discussions with others here, taking their
points on board ( sometimes people can see different things, that we miss), After a
time QOS moved a little higher in my affections.
I'm not saying it's either good or bad, but the experience of discussing it and having
an argument countered ( at first is odd, as I'm usually always right) :D was fun, It
    really helped me.

:)) Oh, I wasn't trying to change your mind, just pointing out
the fun in discussing, ranting, arguing, and generally "Kicking it"
    on AJB. ;)

I hope I used the term "Kicking it" correctly, I heard it on a youth show. ;)

I've tried to "appreciate" every Bond film,,but frankly, Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, and A View To A Kill don't do anything for me...

My sons told me that Spectre is running again in the town they live in, about 80 miles from here...so the wife and may head over there Saturday and catch a matinee...

When I started dating my wife in 1977 she had never seen a Bond film,,,I was horrified..I have since converted her...she really likes the Daniel Craig movies for the glitz....especially Skyfall.

I'd been going through withdrawal for a decent Bond movie for 20 years when Casino Royale came along. I've been in withdrawal since in one form or another, as the underwhelming Quantum of Solace and overrated Skyfall made me wonder why, after such a terrific debut with Craig as Bond, they couldn't turn out anything that was at least its equal. The uneven Spectre, though, was entertaining, and for that, I am grateful. I still long for the sort of Bond film that manages to successfully combine fun with gravitas, all while serving up a lavish production and global scale, something that hasn't happened since the Connery era.

I'm not in Bond withdrawal mode yet, probably wont be for atleast the rest of this year. I find the 2-3 years between Bond films is a good time to pursue other interests and rebuild passion, then when the first news hits of a new Bond film its great to bring it off the back burner and to the fore front.

Does anyone have any guesses as to when we might hear about who's playing Bond next? based on previous years what's the pattern for announcements after the previous movie has been released and finished in the Cinema?

That question is premature, since the current Bond actor isn't yet finished. It would be some time after Craig leaves the role that a new Bond actor would be announced.

I'm really hoping for something rad too. The way it has been going recently, it certainly looks to me like Bond has lost the edge and become too self-referential. Getting a new actor will not solve that, we need a lot more than that. New writers, new directors, new thinking... I would like to see new producers too.
  • ToTheRightToTheRight Posts: 314MI6 Agent
I agree too early to say. Really depends on the release date for the next film. If Craig were to bail out as pre-production was gearing up, then the next Bond could be announced only months later as Pierce was after Dalton had announced his parting from the role. However, I seriously doubt that will be the case. Considering how much effort has been put in the Craig era to establish continuity and a bit of a story arc, I can't picture another actor just stepping in and taking Craig's place without a change of direction. More likely, when Craig does officially step down, I'm feeling that might delay the film an extra year.
At this point in the series, I think it's really anything goes. Anything could happen, so I'm not holding my breath.

I'm not saying there necessarily will be a new actor, merely when we're likely to hear about who is playing Bond next whether that is someone new or Daniel Craig returning.

If Daniel Craig isn't going to do it when do people think we'll hear and then the announcement of who's replacing him?

What was the pattern for Daniel Craig returning after SkyFall, If he is going to do it when do people think we'll have confirmation based on that or was it a given/common knowledge Daniel Craig was already going to be returning for Spectre?

I wasn't around these forums during these times so have no background knowledge, just asking for opinion on potential time lines based on previous films.

I've said it often: at this point, if Craig is leaving after SP, we'll know ASAP. Frankly, I think it's been long enough now that I believe he'll be back for #25. Waiting for Eon to disprove or confirm at this point...shouldn't be long now ;)
