Sunspel

Hey guys. I have a day off today as I am getting my wedding suit from Oliver Brown in Chelsea. Check them out, amazing shop. But I decided to also detour to Sunspel in Old Compton Street in Soho to get a Polo. Just to say, the shop is really nice and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Good atmosphere. It's my first piece of Bond clothing that is not a replica which felt good. Anyway, it's a great shirt and I'll be wearing it to death in Barbados on my Honeymoon. Have a good day! :007)

Many congrats to you man. The Sunspel polo was my first real Bond clothing item too. I wore the hell out of that first navy polo. One word of advice: do not wash these polos in the washer or in warm water. The Sunspel polo is super delicate. You really have to abide by their washing instructions or that thing will fade in color and look frayed almost instantly. I messed up my first polo that way. But, if you only use ice cold water and wash it by hand, it will stay good for a long time. Expensive pieces are often times the most delicate, so keep that in mind. Other than that, enjoy it man. There's nothing like the real deal.

Dry cleaning isn't really an option with a polo shirt IMHO. And come one, would you really want to miss your shirt a few days after every single time you wore it? Just wash it at 30 degrees celcius, re-shape when damp, hang it out to dry and enjoy the hell out of it! Eventually you will spill coffee on it anyway.

I really like Sunspel clothing but am no fan of the in shop experience. I find them to be overly attentive. I also find the Riviera to be their poorest offering. I have one but find their regular polo shirts of which I have a few to be of much better quality.
    Yes. Considerably!

i thought there was a section with a more detailed account of the sunspel rivieria polo care. but maybe i was thinking of this one.
so, i hang out between a medium and a large. i went with a medium. i'm muscular.. pretty thin. it worked. but it was right on the cusp of being too small. eventually, scared to death, i had to wash it.

i hand washed it warm, for a couple of seconds with a very very gentle, vegetable-based sort of detergent. rinsed it and pretty much laid it flat and waited for it to dry. the next time i went to wear it... it seems to have shrunk considerably. (or the gym really IS paying off quickly)

is there a gentler way of doing it than that?? aside from dry cleaning? and... is there anyway to undo the shrinkiness? before i break down and buy a large?? i LOVE the shirt, but it should hardly be considerable disposable, for the price.

side note, i might have a slightly SLIGHTLY smaller than medium sunspel riveria polo for sale soon.. barely worn.

I have actually only washed my Sunspel Polos on cold and always hung them to dry. Once they hit the dryer, they shrink really fast. Although, you can stretch them back out a bit, but it's not quite the same.

i've had no problems with mine. I'm a bit lumpy round the middle the best of times, and it has shrunk a little but fits beautifully. I also got a medium and it was fine. I wash it on the delicates cycle and hang it to dry, it doesn't even need to be ironed. Only problem is, i'm wearing it so much that it's going to need replacing in a year easily. I wait to see what it's going to be like wearing it in the Caribbean
    on Tuesday!

goneontheroad, you can shape it when wet to make it larger again. The warm water might have been a contributing factor as well. Cold water works best. The shirt specifies a maximum temperature to avoid fading and shrinkage.

What do people think of the new Riviera polo colour: Masonry Blue?

Haven't seen it in the flesh but to me this looks a closer blue to what appeared in Casino Royale...

I think it looks nice. This is a colour that I think lies between the Navy and the Cobalt.

    Are you considering getting one?

Hey guys. I saw that as well as they now send me updates via email as I'm a proud customer. Since I have a store about 15 minutes walk from my office (i work in Somerset House) I popped over on Friday evening to have a look at it. I ended up buying one cos it was such a nice colour. It is very true to the colour on the website and since I am leaving the country tomorrow for warmer climes and have worn my Navy one to death, i got this for the holiday. Of course, i ended up wearing it all weekend anyway. It's exactly the same, but the colour is a touch lighter that the navy which is almost black. A very nice alternative.

Definitely. I can never have too many blue polos!

Looking at it a second time online it looks a bit lighter than the casino Royale one. But still a nice blue.
