Which Bond aged the best appearance wise?

OakvaleOakvale Pennsylvania Posts: 155MI6 Agent
What do you think?

I'd say Brosnan, which is funny considering his was the first Bond to show grey hair, but it worked and he didn't look any worse for the part in DAD than he did in GE (and in my opinion a bit better, actually due to gaining some weight). Probably could have played Bond until 2010 if we're going on just looks.

I concur: Brosnan. He looked better in his 40s than his 30s, IMHO. Much has been written (here and elsewhere) about Connery and Moore's appearances as they aged as Bond; Lazenby and Dalton's tenures were brief; and I believe there may possibly have been some comments about Craig....? :D

Yes, it's not terribly often (unfortunately :))) that age and some weight gain makes someone look better, but Brosnan is an exception to that. He looked more like Bond in TWINE and DAD than when he started. His hair style/length in GoldenEye always looks a little miss placed to me.

And here's a pic of him (with Jamie Lee Curtis, at an awards ceremony or similar) in 2006:

    AA_OLD_MAN_5.jpg

In his early 50s, around the same age as Moore in FYEO, and at around the time he would have been filming CR06 if things had went differently.

Age seems to suit Brosnan very well.

Indeed. Boy would that have been an awfully strange reboot - both Brosnan and Dench coming back. Makes for some good alternate history!

Nowhere in the book is it stated that Casino Royale is Bond's first mission as a 00. So in my opinion no reboot was needed if they had decided to film CR with Brosnan.

I think SC had grey hair in daf, though it was probably not his own, Brosnan definitely aged the best, Dalton has worn well and possibly could have that accolade if he'd stayed on. What is funny is that Sean connery looks younger in nsna than in daf.
It was either that.....or the priesthood

I would also say Brosnan. He aged very well.

    I would controversially say Moore.

Yes, he looks older in films like AVTAK and OP, but that's because he was older.

Compare him to Connery, who looked about the same age as LALD Moore in DN, FRWL, GF, TB. And yet he was many years younger than LALD Moore.

So considering his actual age at the time, Moore wins this for me.
    1 - LALD, 2 - AVTAK, 3 - LTK, 4 - OP, 5 - NTTD, 6 - FYEO, 7 - SF, 8 - DN, 9 - DAF, 10 - TSWLM, 11 - OHMSS, 12 - TMWTGG, 13 - GE, 14 - MR, 15 - TLD, 16 - YOLT, 17 - GF, 18 - DAD, 19 - TWINE, 20 - SP, 21 - TND, 22 - FRWL, 23 - TB, 24 - CR, 25 - QOS

    1 - Moore, 2 - Dalton, 3 - Craig, 4 - Connery, 5 - Brosnan, 6 - Lazenby

I would agree with you largely, Moore was aging incredibly well until he didn't. His face shape kinda changed over night from OP to AVTAK, and while aging can do that overtime, I doubt that was the case. He certainly had some sort of botched cosmetic surgery from someone. That's what really did him.

I think Brosnan has aged very well. I believe he could easily play Bond now, if EON wanted an older Bond. Connery didn't look too bad in NSNA either, in fact, he looked more Bond-ish there than in DAF!

Craig is heading down that route, his unnaturally botoxed face in Spectre was pretty obvious.

I actually think Craig is a better Bond - both in character and look - in SF and SP. The weathered look I just better IMO, and I feel he is a much better character now than when he was in CR and QoS.

Well, here they are at age 50 (or within a year) except Craig, who isn't that age yet:

I actually think he looked his best in SF. The shorter hair made his jawline look great and he looked even more rugged with the stubble.

Brilliant Barbel! From best to worst, I'd say:

    Moore
    Brosnan
    Connery
    Dalton
    Craig
    Lazenby

Moore and Brosnan are really the only two who still look youthful at 50. Connery aged a lot when he was younger, but his aging slowed down in his 40s-60s. If we ranked them all at 40, I'd easily put Connery at the bottom.

Dalton looks way better then Connery in those pics easily in my opinion, agree on Roger looking the best

Lazenby I imagine prob burnt himself out with his partying hence looks worst

Weight tends to make some people look older than they are.Think he had a proper excercise regime at the time of NSNA. They were in a rush to get him back for DAF.

Wow, seeing all those pictures together, I'd actually say Moore aged pretty well despite what other said. I guess Connery's youthful appearance in NSNA was helped a lot by a shave and a toupe. Mind you, he's always needed the latter.

And here they are at age 60 (no Craig, who isn't even 50 yet):

To be fair, it should be noted that Moore and Dalton are pictured at work (favourable lighting, good make-up, spot of hair-dye, etc) while the others aren't (Lazenby looks like he's been surprised by a flashbulb).

Dalton looks better at 60 than he does in the photo you chose of him at 50. I'd rate him equal to Brosnan when compared to Brosnan in films he made around 60. I'd say Moore and Lazenby look the worst. It's hard to say if Connery looks good or bad for 60. He looks the least like Bond, but he has this certain look about him that I can't judge in terms of anyone else.

Well, I was looking for pictures of the actors that were definitely from the year of their 50th or 60th birthdays, which limited my choice- there were some arguably better pics but they couldn't accurately be from that year.

    Bonus: Connery at 70.

Connery. He might have lost hair and gone gray, but he still looks tough as nails, with great skin tone and bone structure. The wrinkles look like they're carved in stone. Pretty much all of the women I know say he got better looking as he aged. The rest aged more or less as one might expect, but Brosnan in particular lost a lot of the tone that once defined his face and neck, which is not unusual for people of fairer complexions unless they're East Asian.
  • MarcAngeDracoMarcAngeDraco Piz GloriaPosts: 564MI6 Agent
Brosnan and Lazenby have aged the best IMO, and Moore, Connery and Dalton have all aged gracefully - and that isn't a bad thing either. It's a shame our current Bond looks as old as our Bond no. 5.

From the pictures, combined, from best to worst (not counting Craig):
1 - Moore (Still think he's top. And comparing the photos he tops all/most of them)
2 - Dalton (Looks ok IMO)
3 - Brosnan (Still has a boyish face, but lots of wrinkles and grey)
4 - Connery (Never even looked young in the first place :)) )
5 - Lazenby (Absolute rock bottom. Sorry George, you don't even look like the same person from OHMSS)
    1 - LALD, 2 - AVTAK, 3 - LTK, 4 - OP, 5 - NTTD, 6 - FYEO, 7 - SF, 8 - DN, 9 - DAF, 10 - TSWLM, 11 - OHMSS, 12 - TMWTGG, 13 - GE, 14 - MR, 15 - TLD, 16 - YOLT, 17 - GF, 18 - DAD, 19 - TWINE, 20 - SP, 21 - TND, 22 - FRWL, 23 - TB, 24 - CR, 25 - QOS

Definitely Brosnan. The guy's a silver fox these days man.

Connery is getting very old, and totally out of the public spotlight, but he definitely aged really well in the 30-40 years after Bond. Dalton has aged very well too.
