Hulu James Bond 4k titles

Hello everyone!

I was hoping someone could tell us about Hulu's 4k Bond movies, how's the quality compared to the Bluray editions and if it really is a noticeable difference.

This is really the deal breaker for me to get a 4k TV, lol

Thanks

not sure if Hulu really streams Bond in 4k, I'd assume max. Blu Ray Quality (Full HD).
Because of that it would not be necessary to buy a 4k TV, a Full Hd would be enough.

Edited: It seems that Hulu really streams 20 007 movies in real 4K. For that you need a 4k player and a 4K TV.

You mean it's more likely an upscaled version of HD?

One issue I've found with streaming services is that while it is in HD, there is an element of compression and you can see it in some darker colours.

Also, the sound may not be lossless, but you have to have a lossless amp to enjoy that anyway.

You can tell they are newer transfers due to the new MGM logo at the top. However, depending on what you're streaming with and watching with, I can tell you first-hand that these are not guaranteed to look any better than the current blus. In fact, a quick side by side comparison of From Russia With Love on my Roku (Hulu) and Blu-ray player shows that streaming still does not look as good as 1080p Blu-ray.

On top of that, there's a lot of evidence to suggest that depending on your age, your eyes might not even be able to see a difference between 4k Ultra HD and regular HD.

I'm not sure if it's an age thing, or the size of the screen? I think you will need a really huge screen to be able to see any diufference between Full HD and 4K/Ultra HD.

No. If I understand correcty the 007 movies have been remastered in 4k (or even 8k) some time ago.
So if anything, the HD (Blu Ray) versions are downgraded copies from the 4 (or 8k) Masters.

Update: Seems that Hulu has a special deal and is really streaming 20 EON Bonds on 4k with a very low rate of 13 Mbps.

For that, you'll need a 4K TV and a 4K player such as the PS4 Pro or XboX One s - other wise you'll "only" have the HD resolution from Blu Ray.

Well, based on people's feedback, it doesn't seem that there's official 4k format for Bond movies yet. And most likely the online streaming versions like HULU are only up-scaled.

I guess there will be another remastered collection in 4k coming soon, as many Blu-ray titles are getting re-released in 4k recently.

Many of the films were originally scanned in 4k for the ultimate edition DVDs. Many of those transfers (by Lowry) were used for blu Ray as well.

The films not scanned in 2k by Lowry are rumored to have new transfers in 4k. Many of the titles were screened theatrically leading up to and around spectre being in theaters.

I am curious to hear more 4k reviews.
    I don't currently have a 4k screen.
    Thanks!

Yes, the situation is much like how, especially in the earlier 2000s, DVD transfers that looked so-so then and now, look 10 times better with their full potential on display on online streaming sites like Hulu. The series I Spy is an example of this.

In the USA, the only place to buy the films in 4K is iTunes but many are not true 4K and none have HDR. So Casino Royale for example is just an upscaled 2K transfer, while Skyfall is real 4K. Hopefully some better remastered versions come out when Bond 25 hits.

Apparently the YOLT I saw on the bigscreen early this month was 4k. It looked pretty damn good. In fact I thought I was watching a film print. Very high-def for sure.
