Your Ultimate Bond Movie

What do I mean with that? Well, I made a video about my ideal Bond movie which includes the best set of villains, henchmen, Bond girls, composers, clothing and gadgets combined to create the best film of a certain Bond actor's era. I'm willing to bend the rules a bit here and allow you to include Bond actors who didn't have much diversity in villains etc. (eg. Dalton with Mary Goodnight). Any thoughts on my video would also be appreciated -{ . Of course if this has already been discussed, I'd be fascinated to learn all about that.

For me it would be FYEO if Bernard Lee were still alive to play M and if John Barry had written the score. Otherwise the plot is fantastic, the characters are all great and Roger Moore's wardrobe is wonderful (though a shawl collar dinner jacket instead of notched lapels would have been better).

Runner up would be OHMSS starring Roger Moore or a 10-year-older Timothy Dalton.

A happy selection, if I may say so myself (frequent visitor of your blog, job well done). For my eyes, except from the ones that I mentioned in my vid, it would have to be, quite obviously, a third Timothy Dalton movie but with a different plot from GoldenEye or Licence To Kill directed by Martin Campbell with Lindy Hemming (not baggy and 3 buttons are not allowed), a brushed up script and score by Michael Kamen.

Excellent choices! Though I'd worry with those three writers together you could end up with clashing egos and too many master chefs in the kitchen.

I was thinking Dahl could write the first draft, with his raw ability to write fantastical adventures. Then it would go to Wood and Maibaum to work it over. Polish it, tighten it, remove unnecessary scenes, improve the dialogue, etc.

Dalton would work too, but I'm a pretty big fan of Brosnan. I understand he does have his haters out there though, then again every Bond other than Connery does.

Not that I don't like him, but I just think that I would be full of it if I said that he was the best. For me, he's at the bottom row of Bond actors between Lazenby and Moore (he being highest one of them), but just because they aren't quite my ideal version of Bond doesn't mean that I don't love their movies. oHMss, aVTaK and TND are all very good films that I can watch over and over again but I think that Connery would've done it better, Moore was too old and Dalton would be better and TND has Brosnan.

Understandable, but I consider him a top-shelf Bond, possibly the best, and more importantly the best fit for what I would consider the "ultimate Bond movie" which as you can probably tell from my picks, would take place in the 80s or 90s.

The ultimate Bond movie would have:

- Connery in his prime (Goldfinger)
- A plot like FRWL
- The women of Thunderball
- The music of Barry
- The DB5
- The watch of LALD
- Terence Young directing
- Christopher Lee as Blofeld would be interesting
- Be filmed in Japan, Norway, Brazil and Israel
- A classic henchman: Jaws, Oddjob, Grand
- Anthony Sinclair suits
- Chain smoking cigarettes
- At least one classic casino scene with Chemin de fer

I would have also liked to have seen Brosnan get great material for a real classic Bond film. Brosnan is a good actor, looked the part, but his movies lacked great villains, plots and memorable Bond women (Onatopp not included.)

I think that Guy Hamilton had great potential but he wanted to create blatantly escapist entertainment, which is good up to a point. Had he not wanted to create a parody of Bond (DAF comes to mind) he would be ideal as a director.

My ultimate Bond film would be a gritty, r-rated version of Live and Let Die starring Sean Connery, made in 1975, directed by William Friedkin. Basically think of Bond-meets-70s thrillers like French Connection, Marathon Man and the like. We'd see Connery playing a more ruthless, Fleming-esque version of the character. I'd cast a very accomplished actor (maybe Sydney Poitier) as Mr. Big, Gene Hackman as Felix Leiter (shark attack scene included btw), and Julie Christie as Solitaire.

Anthony Sinclair wardrobe (similar to DAF)

A more sinister, albeit still jazzy John Barry score.

And last but not least I'd want to tone down the racism of the source material, so the film better stands the test of time.

Overall, I guess you could look at this as the film of an alternate universe where Bond went in the complete opposite direction from the lighter, campier fare of the Moore films in the 70's.
