Nice to see more recognition for a Bond flick than normally is the case. One quibble (and this echoes previous comments in another thread): in what sense is Eva Green a supporting actress in CR? Granted, Daniel Craig is playing the lead male but surely Vesper is the leading female part in the movie- unless they figure Dame Judi is the leading lady!

Yes, this is something of a mystery. Perhaps the thinking is that Eva Green's role as Vesper Lynd is not substantial enough to merit a best actress nomination? She doesn't appear in CR until the end of the first hour. Her total screentime probably amounts to barely thirty minutes.

As for the awards. I checked out the past winners list and discovered that Pierce Brosnan won the Best Actor Award in 1997 for his performance in Tomorrow Never Dies.

Here's myquibble: CR isn't SF, fantasy (well, except for the heart defibrulator bit), or horror, so what's CR doing here? But a nomination is a nomination, so good job all around!

Seems as if the Bond films always seem to be considered to be somewhat on the fringe of the Sci-Fi genre...I remember '83---that golden summer---when we had two (count 'em: 2!) Bond movies in release...and what magazine ran a cover story? Starlog.

Granted, at times the franchise has been in Sci-Fi with both feet; but it's curious that CR---of all Bonds---would get there as well ?:)

Still and all, I'm with Hardy. Recognition is recognition {[]

Guess who was a subscriber to Starlog in 1983? And guess who threw away all his Starlog magazine's (including the Bond cover story) a few years later?......Doh!

I was struggling for space so something had to go. Bad choice on my part.

I was never a subscriber, but I did buy a few...and I still have my 'Double Bond' issue B-)

There is some consolation for me. At least I was wise enough not to throw away all my Bond related magazines from 1983. And I still enjoy reading them from time to time.

Not an Oscar, not a BAFTA, not even an Edgar (the CR script lost out on that), but it's something. Well done, EON and co.!

Casino Royale did win the BAFTA Sound Award and Eva Green the BAFTA Orange Rising Star Award as voted for by the public. And let's not forget the nine nominations. Very worthy indeed.
