Right with you, as it really wasn't made clear whether he was crooked; the strong hint was that he was unawares of what his charge was up to and was just doing his job, before he was brutally and ruthlessly killed by a cold-blooded Terminator.

I completely agree Sharshooter. It's a brilliant moment. One of the best.
Even though this movie had alot of action sequences, I found none of them memorable as in past Bond movies. None of them left me on the edge of my seat like previous movies and in fact, I couldn't wait for some to end. I found the trailers before this movie were more exciting than the actual movie itself!

The man who chases Bond - is he not one of the people who Greene comes down the stairs with before the 'pregnant pause' and some get the nod to chase Bond before the chase begins?? Could that not make him a fair game target?? If I'm wrong about that I apologise but here's the other possibilty :
In any event if he was with Haines should the special brancher not have left with him as his escort - taking into account that Bond took Haines' photograph as he'd left his seat and was attempting to leave. IIRC when DG left the theatre and the special branch guy fell on his car there were no other cars around enabling them to shoot him unseen, this looked to me that the other Quantum members had already scarpered by this point anyway.
So, thinking ahead, if he was straight he shouldn't have been pursuing Bond when Bond had posed no direct threat to the subject he was protecting, (perhaps making him as bad as Bond for not establishing that they were both batting for the same team so to speak) - all pointing towards him being involved with Quantum perhaps??

The only bad thing about this thread is that you are gonna make me see the movie again.... again, propably alone and perhaps in two weeks (cash problems)

I like those Bond moments, specially with fields (all, the arrive, the hotel swap and the joke in spanish), the "she's seasick", Bond as well-
In the opera, i liked the TSWLM roof scene.
I like the way that Bond escapes from the hotel, so sutile how he jumps, walks an goes down the stair....
I pretty like all the lines from Bond, like in the bike interchange.
and the gunbarrel... is like being in love again, the butterflies in the stomach.

Whilst watching the movie I hadn't given much thought about the guy on the roof, but now it looks like we've nitpicked/discovered another point of confusion --good job y'all!
IMO the fact that he was chasing after Bond and never ID'd himself as a SB agent makes it unlikely that he knew nothing of his charge's nefarious involvement with Quantum, so that makes him fair game. Lavabubble also makes a good point, that he must have been with Greene during the silence confrontation since he was chasing Bond afterwards. None of this explains why Bond didn't tell M that he didn't kill him --either he was anxious to maintain his trigger-happy reputation or else figured half of MI6 were double agents and just gave up. Huh.

Bond killed him, did he ? Have you seen the movie ? In the version I saw the guy managed to get off the bonnet all by himself, unaided...and that's tends to be pretty difficult if you're dead.

And let's not forget that Bond IS a murderer..that is a huge part of his job...that's why he has a licence to kill.

I would say the opera scene was my favorite moment. Breaking off the door handle is an example of the little things I think Bond would do. The location is gorgeous, the opera as a backdrop to Bond listening is interesting and his little remark to everyone to let them know he has heard everything is typical Bond.
Ironically for me, it was the few "little" moments that were more memorable than all of the chases and the stunts -- Bond opening the trunk with White inside, his getting the motorbike, his breaking off the door handle, his brief exchanges with M, and so forth. Of all of the "set pieces," the opera is the one that truly stands out. The rest, while potentially interesting, are cut so fast that it was hard for me to relish in anything because I could barely tell what was going on. It's odd, too, because beautiful shots like the flyover at the beginning are contrasted sharply by those that could have been equally so but get butchered by the epileptic editing.
Fields' tripping Elvis and then later trying to warn Bond with a message, showing she was a lot more capable than just a "secretary" was one of the better moments. In fact, though I think Camille is prettier, Fields is a far more interesting character, and considering she has so little screen time, actually gets more development, at least in my opinion, on the surface seeming a slightly uppity young employee who takes her job too seriously to what could have been a very capable sidekick.
By the way, Marc Forster is not a director known for strongly plot-driven films. While movies like "Monster's Ball" showcase incredible performances, the stories often take a backseat to the actors, and his preference for "little moments" make some sense to me for why the film seems to often only give glimpses of what would have been more developed scenes in other Bonds.
1) When Bond puts himself between Camille and Greene on the balcony. No threats. No quips. The body and the eyes say it all.
I think if one needed a visual definition of the phrase: "If you're feeling a mite squirrelly son, when go on and jump nut!" I would say, "See the balcony scene with 007, Greene and Camille."
That about sums it ALL up right there, folks!
2) The way Bond tells the Canadian agent at the end about her "boyfriend." His eyes blaze at the "lure" and warm slightly as he speaks to her. And then her quiet little "thank you" at the end.
3) The last scene with M when he walks away after dropping the necklace Vesper once wore. But he keeps her picture.
4) Bond drinking Vespers in the bar on the plane and his slide around the issue conversation with Mathis. Does this man hurt? Duh.
5) Mathis' death in Bond's arms and then the harsh disposal of his body told us how Bond cared for him and yet was practical about the loss.
6) Bond's gentle apology for pulling Camille away from her revenge. He respects that need from her.
7) M's mixture of fear and anger at being betrayed by her bodyguard. She looks VERY shaken.
8) Bond outing the bad guys at the opera, funny and efficient.
9) The look on Felix's face when he is asked to id Bond. He ain't happy. The whole thing stinks.
10) The car chase in the beginning which conveyed the way these things really seem when they actually happen.:007)
The very end when he's standing in the snow talking to M. That whole "professional" look and raw emotion he had was incredible. That and I'm a sucker of Tom Ford apparel so seeing one of my favorite actors decked out in it easily impressed me.
1) The PTS including the panning across the lake, the editing could have been less snappy but it made me tense which is what I like
2) Daniel Craig throughout, I like him far better in this than in CR. He is becoming my fav Bond very quickly.
3) Everything about Mathis, especially his death scene. Again he was better in this than in CR.
4) Scenes with Fields, good fun and a cool girl.
5) Bond not having a shag in the end. I thought this was good and well thought out. If he didnt have it with Fields then he would have had to have it with Camille lol.
6) Greene during Opera scenes. Despite not being on the level of Le Cheffre I thought he was a slimey CEO type, and quite memorable.
7) M. Especially at the end, great to see her gain and keep faith in Bond, terrific.
8) The Gun Barrel, It should be at the start in the next one, but because Bond is becoming 007 I thought it did belong where it was. This made me wanna shout out YEAA!!!

I can't agree there. Bond is NOT a murderer, it just happens to be a part of his job that he loathes. He dislikes killing in cold blood, and kills only when he has no other option. That is not the mindset of a murderer.

Okay...we'll agree to disagree...but...what IS Bond then, if not a cold-blooded killer ? He kills people that get in his way, that stop him doing what needs to be done.
In FYEO Bond kills Locque when he has no NEED to. He just kicks his car over the cliff, he could have got him out, but he kills him in revenge for Ferrara. Isn't that murder ?
Blasting the Alfa off the cliff was a CLASSIC Bond moment and incredibly well shot. I just wish the editing had been a little slower so we could savor the splendor of the shot!
The kill shot for Mitchell was priceless and IMO that should have been the end of the PTS!
Both of these moments were missing the electric guitar that turns into a BOOMING orchestral version of the Bond theme! Maybe next time...
The scene towards the end where Camille is field-stripping her gun and Bond is "schooling her" on what it's going to be like to kill someone. That was a great moment! Loved the booming drums during that scene!
I thought the relationship between Bond and Camille was fantastic. It really adds to the complexity of his character that they explored this...
P.S. Hands-down Craig is the best dressed Bond ever. I thought the wardrobe was awesome!

what i loved about QoS BOND did not love this girl Camille .Not like every other bond film he fell in love with every girl in site.

I agree with you on that scene - it was great!
I thought there were a couple of moments like that during the opera scene: Bond acquiring the tux and tearing the lever off the bathroom door!
Also, when Bond gets the drop on the SBS guard as he comes tearing out the door - Bond is calmly waiting with his PPK just as the door crashes open!
I got the exact same feeling.
