Who owns the copyright of the plot for the 007 Games?

Who owns the plot details of the games, 007 Racing, Agent Under Fire, Nightfire, Everything Or Nothing and Rogue Agent. The game designers, or Gildrose or any other James Bond Companies.

Based on my understanding, it's usually a combination of two or more of those entities you mention, which is why it is often so difficult to get these kinds of games off the ground as a lot of palms need to be greased.

Likewise, if a studio wants to re-release a game down the road it often requires the explicit approval of all the interested parties. This apparently happened with Goldeneye when Microsoft tried to get a version of it ported to their Xbox Live Arcade service. The game was supposedly coded and ready to go but one of the copyright holders (possibly Rare, but more likely Nintendo) balked at the project and basically killed it outright.

It's a shame that Rare or EA choose to give up the licence to make the games, if they had kept it then it would easier to port to Xbox's Live Arcade or Wii's virtual console.

Some companies are smart and choose to hold on licence's provided that they made money off the games in the series. Look at Konami who 20 years later is still making games based on The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoons. Pity that EA's track record was so spotty with Bond. You had good games like Nightfire and Everything Or Nothing, that were followed by really poor games like Goldeneye Rogue Agent and From Russia With Love.
