Sean Connery invited to Oscars tribute

I wasn't sure where to post this article so I decided to put it in the Skyfall section since all the Oscars talk is in there. If I have put it in the wrong place then feel free to move the thread.

The Daily Record has claimed that Sir Sean Connery may be lured back in to making a public appearance at the Academy Awards next month as part of the tribute to the James Bond film series as it celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Connery has been retired from public appearances for a couple of years, and turned down invitations to take part in the "Everything or Nothing" documentary last year.

But the lustre of the Oscars could bring him back. According to the paper, associates of the Scot say the Oscars offer is a “different proposition”.

Current star Daniel Craig and the four other former 007's - George Lazenby, Sir Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan - are all reported to have been invited already.

An Oscars 'source' told the tabloid: "Sir Sean has been invited to take to the stage along with Daniel and the other 007s. As yet, we’ve not had a no from him. Normally he is quick to turn things down. Sean’s relationship with the Oscars is good and we’re hoping he’ll appear. His issues with the Bond producers are not our business and we hope he will overlook that as we pay tribute to what he has done. It would be magnificent to see him up there with the other actors – and quite a coup. We’re very close to getting Adele to talk to us about a performance too. Until she is officially nominated this week for the best film song Oscar, we can’t invite her."

Connery could be asked to give a little speech, as he's gassing off, Dalton can take 3 shots at him from the gods, Lazenby sticks his head round the wings and announces that that never happened to the other fella, Moore can run in across the heads of an angry orchestra, only to be run over by Brosnan driving a vanquish through the set and Craig can abseil in, assess the carnage and spout "you must be joking".

There's nothing to indicate that he was "against" the Bond franchise per se.

True, he did do NSNA in 83 partly because EON not involved. Are Roger and Sean still friends?

After reading Bond on Bond (written by Sir Roger) I believe they are still good friends and still meet up occasionally.

Hilary Saltzman has urged the Academy to bring all six Bond actors together for the Oscars tribute to 007. "I hope [the Academy gets them all together] because time's kind of running out a little bit here. Time is moving on and this is the perfect opportunity for this to happen and I hope the Academy has reached [Sean Connery]. Maybe the others haven't been contacted yet because Sean is the hinging point. They could think if they don't get Sean, then what's the point? I really don't know, but I have high hopes that they will all appear on stage."

It has been confirmed that the six Bond actors will not be appearing on stage for the Bond tribute at the Oscars. Producer Craig Zadan is quoted: "It's something else, something very unique and very exciting but no, we're not getting the Bonds together."

Would have been absolutely great to see them all together, but I can't see it happening now. If it was ever going to happen then the 50th anniversary was the last chance.
