License To Listen

stagstag Posts: 2,083MI6 Agent
Does anyone own any of the Bond novels (IF novels) as audio books? If so what are they like? I am thinking of investing in the complete set but, before I part with my hard earned pension, I would like to hear your thoughts.

At the end of the day, although I would love to sit down & read the books themselves I find I cannot make time. It would be a case of two or three pages at a time perhaps two or three times a week whereas the audio books would allow me to listen in the car etc.

    I've said this before, but the few ones that David Rintoul did are probably the best Bond Audio books I've ever heard

    I have the Casino Royale and Live and Let Die audiobooks (CDs), as read by Simon Vance. They're pretty good. I also have The James Bond Collection Volume 1 (FRWL, DN, GF) and Volume 2 (TB, OHMSS. YOLT) on cassettes as read by John Kenneth. They are in the original packaging unopened, so I haven't listened to them yet. (One of my colleagues at work found them in her attic and she gave them to me because everyone in the office knows what a huge Bond fan I am). Has anybody heard these and, if so, are they any good?

    Tape cassettes? I'm sorry you've lost me with all this new fangled tech speak. The good old wax cylinder is more my thing.

    Taking this advice I've been to You Tube & see that many of the IF novels & others are available. Has anyone heard of 'YouTube Downloader'? ;)

    I've downloaded L&LD & am already half an hour into it. I must say I'm enjoying it. Does anyone know if the audio books are unabridged? At knocking on eight hours of speech I'm guessing the whole novel has been read word for word?
  • AlphaOmegaSinAlphaOmegaSin EnglandPosts: 10,924MI6 Agent
    Yes, there all complete and unabridged -{

    After adding an 8gb micro SD card to my phone I have managed to transfer the LALD & FRWL audiobooks I downloaded a while ago. I am now going to get stuck into listening to them & shall add others to the list until I have the full Fleming works.

    There are also some continuation books on you tube, any recommendations for those?

    I got a new phone recently & fitted it with an 8gb memory card. I've uploaded a few Bond audio books onto it. I've just finished listening to L&LD, not sure if it's going to be Casino Royale or FRWL next.

    I've only got three thus far & they're read by Robert Whitfield. I have never heard of him before but he did a good job in L&LD. I have no point of reference as to whether he's considered one of the better readers.

    I've brought up his Name before, but I recommend the ones by David Rintoul -{

    I came across them recently on another download site (poss US). I guess they sold the rights or something

    Cant remember which site though. I bought the lot originally but never downloaded the last book before it went belly up
