Fair enough but Chris Nolan has said himself that he " borrowed" much
from Bond. So I don't see any one being better than the other. Everyone

It's the timing. If the Batman films had come out 20 years ago, I might feel differently. But they're recent. And with starting with Casino Royale, it wasn't so much the ingredients -- sophisticated and tough anti-hero, gadgets, supervillain universe -- so much as the approach and premise -- an orphan with a troubled youth, a rogue who makes mistakes, villains who are all five steps ahead.
Skyfall suffered too much from borrowing its characters and plot from The Dark Knight. And in this one, we get not only the ending, but there's even the threat of a bomb at a stadium, whole cities under threat of being destroyed, the murderous strong man with the overmuscled body, the bad girl good girl with an "animal" name (Selina Kyle vs. Madeline Swann), and the idea that some criminal mastermind knows how to control society's impulses better than democratic society (Ra's Al Ghul vs. Max Denbigh).

Have been part of not only Bond but even older heros like Bulldog Drummond, The Saint. Even
stories like Fu man Chew. All have these elements, if anything Both Nolan and Bond have sinply

Sure, no I get it, but those are the big picture things. I'm saying the details are too close. Put another way, Star Trek and Star Wars are both space opera, and I'd expect similarities. Think of the infinite numbers of possibilities, though, to make them distinct. But this kid did an excellent job of showing there are too many between the 2009 Star Trek and the original Star Wars:
See, to me, that's too close. Basically, Abrams was just doing his audition for Star Wars with Star Trek. I like them both but for different reasons and don't need them to be so interchangeable. That's the way I feel about Batman and Bond. Keep them distinct.
I think Mendes knew the character of Franz/Blofeld had too much potential to kill off. But since he really had no clue as to how to make a meaningful resolution, he just passed the buck to the next director.
This is the same thing Forster did with Mr. White.

1) It doesn't change the fact that they didn't do much interesting or exciting with him as a character. He was half-baked and instead of fleshing him out, they kept him alive for the next script to decide what to do with.
Spectre 2. Blofeld escape prison (or they only got a clone of Blofeld). Blofeld is back with his usual tactics trying to destroy the world, and everything you thought you knew in Spectre 1 was a total lie.
Anyone understand why they made demolishing the old Mi6 building a big plot point? I'll be sad to see it go as a backdrop and the new 'modern' building seems a bit bland to me.

Bond authored Blofeld his pain by not ending him. It was glorious.

I don't really think they need to develop his character any more than they already have--if anything, they should avoid further probing his psyche as a jilted foster brother. They just need to give him a suitably grand evil scheme...and give him interesting and disturbing things to say and do.

IMO it's not a cliffhanger. Bond sentenced Blofeld to LIFE.
In a sense, that is a cliffhanger...because we know ESB is not just going to sit around and rot in prison :v

Given the way these writers work, I wouldn't be surprised if they ignored the obvious and made the next film have an almost entirely unrelated plot, and since they are also imitating the Batman films, this one could be treated like The Dark Knight, where there were hints the captured villain would return but he never did. And I know that's partly because of the actor, but the character could have returned.

You said 'develop his character'...and what I suggested is more story and plot than character. IMO, we understand his motivations, and unless they intend to give him an arc of some sort and have him reform, I think he should just be a supervillain.

Bond definitely has to make a choice in regards to his line of work if he is to commit to a relationship, Fleming also explores this in Moonraker

Yes, it's in that book. More fully "Matter of fact I'm almost married already. To a man. Name begins with M. I'd have to divorce him before I tried marrying a woman. And I'm not sure I'd want that." He says that to Tiffany Case, on the ocean liner at the end of the story before Wint & Kidd make their presence felt.
I enjoyed the fact that at last Craig's Bond wins the girl and they drive off together (it's that old romantic in me again). I mean just think about Craig's tenure - Bond becomes a 00, is poisoned by an international banker for terrorists and has his bo****ks beaten by said banker with a length of knotted rope. Falls in love with Vesper who commits suicide, seeks revenge for Vesper's death, befriends woman who is murdered by oil inhalation, gets shot by field agent under orders from his immediate superior, turns to drink, returns to superior who is promptly shot and killed, undergoes drilling torture by megalomaniac with father issues. I mean seriously give the guy a break. It sounds like a storyline from Eastenders, (for members unfamiliar with Eastenders it is a soap opera set in London that has particularly depressing storylines).
If Craig decides to leave (and I hope not) then at least he goes out with the girl - heaven knows he deserves it. -{

As soon as he returned to Q branch I knew exactly what he was going there for and it made me smile...
By the time Bond and Swann drove off in the DB5 I was grinning like an idiot.
It leaves it open for a direct sequel a-la QoS, if they want to of course.
