What's your favourite dvd, Blu Ray bonus extra feautures

What's your favourite DVD, blu ray bonus features this could be anything from an interesting audio commentary to a documentary like say the heart of darkness.
Interviews from cast and crew.

Here's a few of mine.

Pulp fictions Trivia track giving a wealth of information throughout the film.
The audio commentary on Mike Nichols 1967 film the graduate
This is by prof. Dr Thomas koebner I found this one to be pretty fascinating.

Roger eberts audio commentary on Casablanca shows of
Just how much knowledge he has about the 1942 classic.

One thing I love about a good commentary track is that I often always come away have so much more respect and understanding for the film or tv series.

This is a bond forum so it would be criminal not to include some bond extras I'm gunna go with the fifth gear james bond episode which came out to celebrate die another day.
This came out when I was at the high of loving bond and before the internet was the place to go to find everything and anything.

Honourable mention the matrix trilogy commentaries by both philosophers and film critics.

I'm a massive fan from all sorts of different features from various sources so I'd be interested to hear what others have to say on this.

All of the John Carpenter films that have dvd commentary tracks from John and Kurt Russell are must watches/listens. Some great stuff in there. Lots of insight and laughs to be had.

Roger Ebert's dvd commentary track on DARK CITY is fantastic.

All of the 'making of' documentaries on the Bond films (originally on dvd, carried over to blu ray) through TWINE are great. Very entertaining and candid.

All of the 'making of' documentaries for the ALIEN films (on the blu rays) are great. The one on ALIEN 3 was updated when it hit blu ray to include more stuff that frankly makes Fincher more sympathetic and Fox look stupid. Also, the original cut of ALIEN 3, available on the blu ray, is totally superior to the theatrical cut that we all got originally.

    Some nice picks there

I actually brought dark city for the commentary and found it to be a really stellar and well put together movie.

I got some john carpenter blu Ray's the recent restorations with the commentarys which include they live, escape from New York, prince of darkness and the fog. I listened to the fog one but haven't heard any other. Which is your favourite?

The bond commentarys are brilliant I could listen to both peter hunt and Michael g Wilson talk forever.

Will have to check out the alien commentaries for sure.

There's some dvd's I've checked out of the library just because of the bonus features, rather than the main feature. If you read the find print on the back of the dvd's, you stumble across some very educational stuff.

There's a version of either Frankenstein or Dracula, I forget which, but the bonus is a nice long history of Universal Horror, setting the films in the context of German expressionism, returning WWI vets with hideous facial injuries, and other shocking films of the 1930s

There's also full length documentaries on the careers of Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant I know I've seen each of those more than once, deuced if I can remember which dvd's they're attached to. But they're good too. One of their screwball comedies maybe?

All those Turner Classic Movies four-packs have great bonus features. Not necessarily documentaries, but sometimes you get docs. Always, each of the four films comes with a vintage Warner Brothers cartoon and a short film, to recreate the typical experience of a night out in the theatre at the 1940s. Some of those cartoons it's the only place to find them, otherwise theyd be lost. I wish there were an online database of which dvd's to find them all on.

Ghostbusters (1984) defiantly has some great bonus features on both DVD and Blu ray. The original DVD has concept drawings, special effects before and after comparisons and a really fun audio commentary with co-writer/star Harold Ramis, director Ivan Reitman and producer Joe Medjuck. This was one of the first audio commentaries I ever listened to, and I really enjoyed hearing the stories of making the movie. Harold Ramis really had some funny things to say and they really added to my enjoyment of listening to it. The 2009 and 2019 Blu Rays really add more fun things such as the music video for the theme song, more deleted scenes, a feature about Ecto 1's restoration and more.

As for the James Bond films, I would say that From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Spy Who Loved Me, For your Eyes Only, The Living Daylights, Licence To Kill, Goldeneye, and Casino Royale has some of the most fun extras. From music videos, to photo galleries, audio commentaries with the cast and crew, to interviews with the all the people who make these exciting films happen its everything a die hard fan could ask for. I also really like the Guns of James Bond feature which is on the Dr. No DVD, since the real Geoffery Boothroyd appears and talks about the firearms he advised Ian Fleming about in the original novels, and we get to se him demonstrate their power on the shooting range.

The Lord of the Rings blu-ray box set, which contains around 24hours of material, giving an amazing insight into the movie making process; it really is detailed stuff.

I agree with the Lord of the Rings extended edition box sets. I bought these on DVD and they were by far the most detailed and insightful documentation of the process of filmmaking that I had come across. I've since upgraded to the Blu-Ray box set, although the special features discs are still identical to the DVD version.

Of course I also have a special love for the "Inside _____" documentaries on the Bond DVDs, narrated by Patrick Macnee. I've watched these countless times now, both in their original versions and the HD upgrades which were done for some of the Blu-Rays (It's always been a bugbear of mine that half of the Blu-Rays had their special features upgraded to HD and the other half didn't."

Thankfully we have Roger Moore's commentary to his Bonds. I'd love it if we got commentary tracks from the other Bond actors too. In my opinion Lazenby and Dalton would be easy to talk into this. I'm doubtful aboout Brosnan and Connery is probably a stretch.
Those commentaries and some more screentests would be fantastic Bond series extras.

I'd love 'behind the scenes/making of' stuff on the Maurice Binder opening title sequences.

From some of the stills that I have seen from those title sequence shoots, a behind the scenes documentary of that sort could be quite titillating. ;)

Not to get off the subject, but Brosnan did record an audio commentary for Die Another Day when it came out on DVD. Additionally, when he was interviewed for the documentary Everything Or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007, he said that working on Goldeneye was quite fun. Hearing that makes me hopeful that when Goldeneye gets a 4K release and if he is not busy working on a film, Brosnan might be talked into recording an audio commentary.

Getting back other films bonus extras on DVD/ Blu Ray, Enter The Dragon (1973) has some incredible interviews with the cast and crew, plus many other extras. A particular favorite of mine is the audio commentary by producer Paul Heller and writer Michael Allin. Both men had some interesting things to say about working with Bruce Lee, as well as filming in Hong Kong with a largely Chinese crew. The most recent Blu Ray pressing has a number of new documentaries, one of which is a look at the Hong Kong locations from the movie as look now.

I like the "making of" documentaries with Patrick Macnee. He didn't do all of them, though. He didn't do AVTAK and i think another person narrated some of them as well

Another favourite feature on the 2006 DVDs, is that all the characters are put into different categories and you can watch all thier scenes.

Got a bad feeling 4K releases will just have the blu-ray extras

Appears the DC 4K ones have done this if I’m not mistaken

Dr Horrible's Sing a Long Blog. There is a commentary track that is a musical: "Commentary: The Musical" and the Evil League of Evil applications.
