Yup, our first look at John Rhys Davies. One of this film's best points.

John Rhys Davies. I'm surprised it took this long for him to be in a Bond film. He should have had a more long-term presence going forward.

And only in this by fluke- his part was meant to be played by General Gogol, but Walter Gotell was ill and could only manage a cameo at the end.

    Great leather jacket outfit.

For me, this whole part of the film with the KGB tracking Kara in Bratislava was just too slow, lacking the suspense it should have.
Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 53 years.

Music "Ice Chase" John Barry was pleased with the electronic percussion here, feeling it modernised his sound.

Pushkin's part was originally written for Walter Gotell's familiar Gogol character, who has a cameo at the end. They substituted him with the new character, Pushkin, to bring in a new actor, but it would have been interesting to have seen Bond and M anxious about the idea of now apparently needing to assassinate their old detente ally, Gogol.

I don't really like Barry's symphonic arrangement of the Bond theme against that trendy 80s drum machine.

that entire chase is at most half-exciting. Compare this to the Lotus chase in TSWLM!

And the pause in the middle does not help either
