Wonderful to see Moore in a casino scene. He's effortlessly Bond.

Casino scene- hello Topol, and hello to the late Cassandra Harris, one of the best things in this movie.

Two more 'Fleming original' characters. This reinforces my feeling that the Bond movies are always at their best when they draw substantially on Fleming.

Another Fleming trait, it works nicely here.

Agreed- we're into "Risico" now, pretty much intact.

    Cassandra is amazing here!

Bouquet may be the Bond Girl, but you can feel that she and Moore went along so well with each other.
I agree with Barbel, she‘s the hidden jewel in the movie

Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!

The smoke and the whole atmophere in the casino is really Flemingesque

A great assortment of character types around the card table.

I know this may seem a little heretical, but I'm not a great fan of Cassandra Harris in this; the parallels with Tracy just make me think how much more impressive Diana Rigg was.
Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 53 years.

If memory serves, this was Moore's first classic style gambling scene in a Bond film. He'd only have the backgammon game in OP to come. Both are good scenes I think. I suspect Moore's real-life experiences in this area helped him in his performance. ;)

The music in the second half is so much better than the first.

I can think of few actors with a more charismatic voice than Topol's. I've always been a big fan of Fiddler on the Roof, and as a result have always had an extra-special affection for his Bond movie performance.

This film does have some nice cinematography, although none of it is particularly outstanding in the series overall. The DOP for this film was Alan Hume - long-time cinematographer of the low budget Carry On comedies - and I think he does a very competent job in his several Bond outings even if he is no Freddie Young or Roger Deakins.

The scene on the beach is superb in all respects and to my mind shows Roger as one of the finest Bond actors. In some ways this is a scene that Craig's Bond might have been in... and not done anything like as well, in terms of performance. Moore performs both rage and human empathy. Craig would have left out the last part.

One of Moore's greatest scenes as Bond

Side note- both Glover and Topol are too young to have done what their characters are supposed to have done in the war. They'd have been 10 when the war finished.

Topol is wonderful in Flash Gordon too. Stop that laughing! It’s a classic!

He has a wonderfully playfulness here. You can see how the cast and crew loved having him about.

Agreed and now imagine how Dalton would have screwed it up by shedding some tears over Lisls death
