Question About Safin’s Lair

I’ve been trying to understand what the purpose was of the acid pool & light rods in the basement of Safin’s bunker. I get that it used to be a missile silo, and it was obviously converted into the “farm” as Bond & Nomi clearly state, but what was the purpose or usage of the corrosive water & lighting rods? Was it used in relation to Heracles? Anyone have an idea?

What I understood is that the island had been owned by Safrin's family for at least a generation (he mentions growing up there) until SPECTRE took it over. So killing SPECTRE allowed him to get it back. That's why it looked like he was moving in (hanging pictures, etc.). The garden had always been there (planted by his father?) and I assumed the acid pools, lights, etc. were used in the past to make different types of poisons. Maybe now repurposed for Heracles?
Exactly. They do have some exposition in there to explain he had recently got it back through killing off SPECTRE.
