That USA version of Reeves's Witchfinder General bears no relation to the film itself. Could the distributor be sued for false advertising? I checked this out and have learned that the poem quoted on the poster is by Edgar Allen Poe and is entitled The Conquering Worm. The US distributer AIP paid Vincent Price to read the poem over both the opening and closing credits, linking it extremely vaguely to Price and Roger Corman's 'Poe cycle' of films, which AIP also distributed. However, I still maintain the poem, even in the vaguest of interpretations, cannot bear relevance to the film we watch.
Up the Chastity Belt was on TV the other night, with Frankie Howerd as Lurkalot. 😅😅😅 I saw it several years back. It was quite funny. Better than most Carry Ons of the period. They repeat the TV show Up Pompeii on one of the UK channels too and it is very funny, cheekily bawdy. The movie is one of the best spin offs of the seventies. Up the Front was toilet. Does anyone remember Whoops Baghdad? I think.it was written by Ned Sherrin who hosted the News Quiz or something on Radio 4.
Yes, I remember Whoops Baghdad! It was a unsuccessful retread of Up Pompeii.
Frankie Howerd was one of those inimitable British comedians who graced our screens in the days when comedy was allowed to be funny without the risk of upsetting the joyless guardians of todays comedic output.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

The Bond Villain’s poster is excellent…and quite sought after…
Love both the Modesty Blaise & Flint posters 😍
I also adore Up The Chastity Belt, I always watch it when it’s on…and it’s usually around Christmas…
Yep, I remember Whoops Baghdad! I also remember Then Churchill Said To Me….so bad that it was shelved for 11 years 😳
I’ve always liked Frankie Howard, a terrific comic who seemingly has no gags and not much of an act…amazing how his career is littered with numerous ups and downs…bouts of terrible depression…and stories of him being less than correct in his behaviour - as Rory McGrath can attest…
Speaking of Rory MacGrath, wasn't he in that update of Up Pompeii, Chelmsford 123 - which I thought hilarious. Plebs treads similar ground. They are all quite near the knuckle and very amusing. Maybe the Roman era setting allows writers to go further than they might with the ribald antics played out in contemporary times.

Well…and apparently Rory wasn’t the only writer Frankie did this too…
Rory was round at Frankie’s with his writing partner - Jimmy Mulville - working on scripts/gags…when Frankie suddenly dropped his trousers and underwear and asked Rory to ‘do him a favour’ 👀
As I said…I’ve always loved Frankie as a comic…

He was…and he wrote it with Jimmy Mulville…and I thought it a great series too…as was their first tv show Who Dares Wins…obviously I haven’t seen it in years and I’ve no idea if it would ‘stand up’ today…it had a great cast - Rory & Jimmy again, with Julia Hills, Phillip Pope & Tony Robinson…

For what it's worth, I haven't heard of "Saigon" either although I watched the other 3 relevant movies a few weeks ago.
I liked Alan Ladd…have box, will act 🤭
Those old movies are better than what’s being released today, that’s for sure.
Random selection…
A few good ones, and a Chuck Norris film too.
Loved watching Chuck Norris back in my youth…😁
2 x Alternative titles…
2 x Foreign…
3 x Horror
Movie Posters return on 5th January.
The story goes that "The Devil Rides Out" was retitled as above for the US market, in case the prospective audience thought it to be a Western...
Thanks as ever, CHB, great posters.
Didn’t know that…but makes sense now you say it…thanks 🙂

A selection of movies that I like…the last one is a press book cover but I’ve included it anyway…
Some variations I hadn't seen there (eg Jaws, Wild Geese).
I like alternative versions of the usual posters that we know so well.
This was one of the posters that adorned my bedroom wall when I was a kid…
A couple of foreign posters…
Noir…
Amicus and Hammer - the two big names in British Horror…
I'm enjoying the foreign posters, a nice variation.
I absolutely LOVE the In Like Flint poster - that’s the way posters should be 🍸
I agree, Sir Miles. The artwork is by Bob Peak who also did the poster for TSWLM, Superman, The Liquidator, Our Man Flint and many more.
Sci-fi/Horror…
I read the book before seeing the film…big mistake 🫣
I don’t remember this film…but I remember watching the tv series 😁
A lot of absolute gems there, CHB.
Bond…Horror…Foreign…Rambo…Frankie Howerd…
"Corpse Eaters" and "Evil Laugh" look terrible, and not in the good way.

I remember it too, it was pretty awful. Don't know the Rory McGrath story, is it printable?

That was a very funny show but maybe as you say it might not age well. And thanks for filling me in about ... 😵💫
They certainly don’t look the best 😂 but the world needs to know these films are out there 😁
That TMWTGG poster was one that always eluded me - as you say, it’s excellent.
I remember Bob Monkhouse telling of how Frankie Howerd tried to seduce him, as well.
