I hope our UK members are out on the town drinking something the NHS warns against, because the pubs, bars and nightclubs will be closed again from tomorrow. I also understand the rule of six will be in effect again, or as out Swedish friends write it - "sex-regelen".

I think Finland is one of the few countries in Europe where the number of new cases isn't going up. Corona has to be pushed back here in Norway, but it's still under control.
- Testing website doesn't work properly.
- Some people being offered tests are asked to drive hundreds of miles.
- NHS staff cannot get tests meaning they have to self isolate if showing symptoms, taking them away from their work when they're
most needed.
- NHS staff that may be asymptomatic will be spreading the virus to colleagues and patients unknowingly, as staff testing is not
available.
- 'Rule of Six' introduced but Police advised not to issue fines right away.
- Government line continues to be; people 'can' be fined or 'could' be fined. Not 'will'.
- Face masks still not being worn by all people in shops etc.
All the pupils in the 10th grade in my nephew's scool are quarantined because one of the boys have been diagnosed with corona, and their church confimation is this weekend! They are being tested and my nephew doesn't know the infected boy, but we have hotel room for Thursday nigh to Sunday. That means we (my parents and I) will have to drive all Thursday to get there, then hope the results of the test of my nephew is ready on Friday. If he is well we'll attend the cermony on Saturday, but if he is infected we'll probably drive hom that day instead. I know lots of people are facing much worse problems because of corona than I am, probably there are members in this forum who are facing bigger problems because of the pandemic, but I'm frustrated and a little nervous.

The problem is, that some industries are really pushing for more relaxed guidelines. I had a "professional chat" with some one in the know (I know that's vague, but it's that way on purpose), and it was the lobbying efforts by the group formed by tourism- hospitality- and event businesses, that convinced the government to start relaxing travel restrictions, even thought the second wave is gathering speed.

EDIT: I just realized that peoples first thought will run to Miranda, so I had to clarify which Frost...

Today the quaratine and border crossing rules were thightened a bit and local autorities in the areas with outbreaks are going further.
I still haven't seen anyone with facemasks, but I haven't visited any larger towns in months.

From today, brothels are open and „freelancers“ are allowed to work again in Germany - so I wonder who was lobbying whom and how ;%
Seriously speaking I am afraid that the second wave will hit us much harder and longer than the first one.

I don't understand why, in England, youth groups are exempt from the group of 6 rule. There are restrictions on kids in school as to how much contact they are allowed with other kids. But then they can attend youth groups where they would be mixing with a different set of kids and adults, socially distanced I know but it still doesn't make sense to me.

The pubs are shut in my town but I can still go to the gym
I think a vaccine will be ready for the market this winter and 2021 will be spent fighting corona. By 2022 most of the pandemic will be under control in the developed world. Third world countries will be dependent on rich countries and non-state organisations to buy vaccines.
I'm not against it, but I don't think we should tell some of the Americans here. They are nice and everything, but I don't think they learn a lot about ideologies at school. I remember one who belived the congess was far left.

Wanted to lose any money.

Perhaps you slept through those lessons back in the day? Using tax money to bail out banks isn't socialism, taxing them a lot or even nationalizing them is more their style. Remember it was Bush the Younger who bailed out banks first in the 2008 crisis.

You do make a valid point. Bailing out banks means that they can act with abandon not afforded to any other business. IMHO banks should face realistic business risks, it is the only way to avoid crisis like the subprime debacle of 2008. The fear of losing money would keep them in check. The reason this is not done, is that the price paid by the society in large when a bank fails would be too steep, paid in bankruptcies, unemployment, lost savings and retirement funds and personal tragedies in scores.
Although I have to point out, that just bailing out banks does not a socialism make. Also there is a quite large leap from socialism to communism.
And finally, the first recorded strike in the Unites States of A was in 1768 and first trade union in America was founded in 1794, so socialism has very deep roots in the US.
