Nice, but I’m glad I’ve got the real thing 😉 -thanks Garin!

Taking liberties with the truth as usual. Standard FE MO.

...."the serial numbers on each plaque have been modified for legal compliance reasons." Ok, IF you have the only surviving Le Cercle plaques from EON archive in hand, how do you know how many plaques were there in the Original B&G run and for legal reasons which numbers to use?

And how limited is FE's run of the replicas?

I would also like to see Barry or someone who represents Factory Entertainment to come forward and explain the story a bit more. I'm pretty sure many here on board would like to hear - Why different stories?

I see they’ve re released the LALD tarot cards again too. Which makes a mockery of them making these editions as ‘Limited’.

In all honesty. It seems a nice set and at a decent price for those who would rather have cheaper replicas for display. I see they’ve changed some tiny details on the colours for some reason again. And it will be interesting to see if they are using callipers with accurate measurements on them for once.

As for the numbering, it looks like they’ve added 007 for the first three digits, so for those of us with the real ones who are worried they may be passed off as the real thing with the same numbering, that will clear that issue up. Plus they’ve added a weird disclaimer on them too. So no way they can be confused with the genuine ones.

It is a nice set but again, many questions as to their story due to EON not actually having any in their archive before the find so.....................

I thought the same thing and as I read the description I saw this: "This set replicates exactly the 27 cards used in production, including two recently rediscovered cards which were thought to have been lost and have never been previously reproduced" so those original sets only had 25 of the 27 cards. I'll have to check the included booklet on my cards more closely but I don't recall them mentioning it was incomplete at the time.

  • MANDY1MANDY1 TISPosts: 2,608MI6 Agent

Yes, that's correct. The year 2010 set contained 27 cards in total of which 3 cards (in most cases) were the "Lovers" cards.

That’s not so bad then. The original set used to go for high prices on ebay. That will take a hit. I suspect a load of sets will suddenly be for sale.

As for the plaques (and an owner of the originals), I think it's keen that FE is producing something so specific (the plaques don't quite get a "moment" in the film the way other FE replicas seem to). And they seem relatively affordable for FE!

That said, it's clear this is only happening thanks to Garin's discovery.

It makes one wonder if every (remaining) Bond film is getting a FE replica for the 60th?

  • Asp9mmAsp9mm Over the Hills and Far Away.Posts: 7,483MI6 Agent

I was thinking this too. There are plenty of plaques from quite a few films. And iconic designs too. OHMSS, Thunderball, Goldeneye, TWINE, Casino Royale, Floating Dragon Skyfall.

That'd be great; especially the Skyfall which gets such a big moment on screen (not sure if replicas of those have already been made).

I forgot about the Patrice chip. I was thinking about the plaques. Which got next to no screen time. Although these may involve legalities with Carta Mundi who made the originals. Same might go for the CR plaques and BG. But all the others were made in house or are from companies long since gone

There has been a couple of runs on the Patrice chip. Mostly based on the stunt version.

That chip was entirely made by production. So no third party legalities.

I emailed Barry in May 2020 about the find as he'd asked on the chip board about if they were real and actually existed and he said that EON wouldn't allow them to be reproduced so at least they did allow them at last, which is good. I assume it's due to the 60th Anniversary and that they are now confirmed to exist (plus I've put plenty of photos "out there" which may have helped).

When I spoke to EON (Meg) they asked if I wanted to either gift them a set or loan them one so I can only assume that they had none although I was also told they had none and then that they had a "nasty" one. They do have at least 1 from the find in their archives now.

I also doubt very much that the security guards would have left without all of the plaques and also that the meagre budget would have stretched to buying them from the casino anyway but.....................

The replica set says "For display only" on the back so they can't be mistaken for the real thing (which is good) so all the lucky owners of the originals can rest easy.

  • DrNoPlaquesDrNoPlaques SwabyPosts: 239MI6 Agent

It seems that the serial numbers of the ones used to replicate are "confidential" for some reason. Pity though as it would have been "nice" to confirm if they were actually ones that had been in the archives and maybe misplaced or from the "find"...................

I know a couple of people that gave them some plaques. They definitely got them from you. Before that there were none at EON as they confirmed it with one of them.

  • DrNoPlaquesDrNoPlaques SwabyPosts: 239MI6 Agent

So do I but it would have been "nice" to know if they were from the find or not (for me anyway as it would fill some of the gaps).

  • Asp9mmAsp9mm Over the Hills and Far Away.Posts: 7,483MI6 Agent

I’d say there’s no doubt they were from your find.

Not all the "missing" screen-seen Tarot 007 card designs were in the FE run. Nor does the run include the second set of cards used by Solitaire on screen, a more common pack of cards.

Meg didn't have plaques until recently from the DNP find, yes.

No one I know has replicated the Skyfall plaques or chips other than the Patrice chip.

Four rounds of plaques and chips (Dr. No, Thunderball, FYEO and CR) came from casinos supplied by Bourgogne et Grasset (or directly from them, uniquely for the Casino Royale production, including from BG and from Caramundi's Copag factory in Brazil). Lots of luck finding the FYEO and Thunderball items--but consider I have a permanent WTB on those and for top dollar/pound/euro. Anyone? :) Anyone?! Any time!

I'm most curious as to how the FE release of Dr. No plaques will devalue or increase the value of the real ones at auctions and private sales.

I'd like to think that the value of original Dr No plaque shouldn't be affected by the replicas as there were replicas before they were found (as you know) although it may affect any future sales especially as the wording almost makes it sound as if the ones in the archives are the only film prop ones in existence. Plus their bold statement that not all plaques were sent back to the casino (which I find doubtful due to cost and the fact that I also doubt that the security guards would have left without making sure they were all there) may affect them too. Obviously that is speculation on my part but considering it was a relatively new casino and how much even £50 was worth in those days, it would surprise me. I guess it's just another thing we'll never know. Oh well. As long as the owners of the originals are happy with the ones they have then anything else will just affect the ones I have left, which is fine.

  • MANDY1MANDY1 TISPosts: 2,608MI6 Agent

    This ^^.

The FactoryEnt. COA or whatever they call it, should have the complete story behind the Le Cercle plaques they have now replicated just in time for the 60th anniversary. Would also like to hear how big is the "limited" replica run this time around...

Admittedly, the set looks nice and for 100USD, i think the price is very affordable. Based on the pictures, i would only change the description in the booklet and add the whole story.

Yes, they should have the complete story but that never happens when resold it seems (and it would take a lot more space).

They are waiting to see the demand before confirming amounts which is understandable I suppose.

Changing the description and adding the whole (or at least part of the) story would be ideal but then it may affect sales so it won't happen. It's the "blurb" on the back that is a little annoying but as the wording isn't actually incorrect just possibly a smidgen misleading (or is that just me) and only selective with their "facts" (in my opinion, which means nothing really).

Hope all is good, Teppo, have a great weekend and still hoping your package arrives sometime this year. Take care.

Can someone advise whether or not I should purchase the FE plaques? Seems like there are some mixed feelings here and I am starting feel like FE is just pumping stuff out saying these items are LE and then re-releasing several iterated versions later on. I was about to pre-order, but now I am thinking this might be another dud of a release. Why can't S.D. Studios make a return!? There stuff was high quality and made with love with a collectors interest in mind. Those walnut display cases, sighh!! These days FE feels like the Dollar Store of Bond collector items. Not seeing the same love, care, quality that they once were, but never of the same level as S.D.

I do struggle with how the Quantum Q pin badge they sell could possibly cost $80. I guess the originals were silver too.

  • Asp9mmAsp9mm Over the Hills and Far Away.Posts: 7,483MI6 Agent

There’s about 95p worth of silver in a Quantum pin. Silver is cheap and is clean to cast with little waste.

Only you can answer that. Personally, I’d rather spend a bit more money and get one of less pristine versions from Garin. High chance they were on set, and 100% authentic original plaques. That being said, the FE set looks quite nice for the price. But don’t expect them to be investments. FE stuff doesn’t hold value well. Except the GG, but that can devalue too because of the cheap materials and plating used. They degrade badly, especially if you handle them. So even they are a gamble.
