I always love it when Bond tips the porter and the Bond theme swells. Must've been a huge tip!

I miss when Bond walks into a hotel and the Bond theme is playing.

RIP,Monty Norman. Thank you for your contribution to the Bond series.

It's amazing that the idea for the theme, came from a song from a musical. The House Of Mr Biswas.

    We've lost an icon today.

RIP David Warner, 80. Many, many movies but I loved "Time After Time" where he played Jack The Ripper.

Edit- Trekkies will remember him from "Star Trek V"

    and VI

RIP David Warner and I’ve read today that Paul Sorvino, who played Paulie in Goodfellas, has passed away aged 83, RIP.

Sad to hear of the death of our former Northern Ireland First Minister and Ulster Unionist Party Leader David Trimble, now Lord Trimble, aged 77. He did a lot to bring peace to Northern Ireland and was one of the main architects of the Belfast Good Friday Agreement that restored power-sharing government to the country.

I haven't watched all that many films starring David Warner but the ones that stand out in my mind are two films he made with Sam Peckinpah, Cross of Iron and The Ballad of Cable Hogue. I particularly enjoyed his performances in both of those films. RIP David Warner.

Paul Sorvino has died. He had a lot of great roles, but my favourite was in Goodfellas. In light of the (fairly) recent deaths of James Caan, Tony Sirico and Ray Liotta, you have to think that someone somewhere's lining-up another great mob movie!

Sad to hear that Bernard Cribbins has passed aged 93, another legend gone but a great age!

Yes, saw Bernard Cribbins just a few days ago in a reshowing of The Railway Children. Still sort of unexpected, as I think Talking Pictures TV were in contact with him a bit and passing on good wishes on his birthday. He was still with-it.

RIP Bernard Cribbins, a memorable character of the screen. I am very fond of his performance in The Railway Children, also very memorable is his guest appearance on Fawlty Towers, he was also in one of my favourite Hitchcock films (Frenzy) and let's not forget that he was also a Bond alumnus in a way - having had a role in the 1967 Casino Royale.

Sad to learn that. I saw him onstage many years ago in a farce called "Run For Your Wife" and he was hilarious.

Sad to hear of the death of Bernard Cribbins. A true comic talent. He had a nice little cameo role in the spoof version of Casino Royale (1967) as a taxi driver who drove from London to Berlin!

Cribbins was a favourite as a child, and remains a favourite today.

I watched The Railway Children very recently too. I still love that film.

Loved Bernard Cribbins. My party piece was always a rendition of Right Said Fred.

Remembering the longest serving and most prolific James Bond continuation author, John Gardner, who died fifteen years ago today on 3 August 2007. Besides Bond he wrote novels about his characters Boysie Oakes, Herbie Kruger, Derek Torry, Suzie Mountford as well as the Moriarty Journals and the Secret Generation trilogy of spy novels.

Two Australian singers... Judith Durham of The Seekers...

Their hit Georgy Girl for the film of the same name, co-written by Carry On star Jim Dale - one of those little-known facts. Also did The Carnival Is Over, which I was playing for Dad on single vinyl just a few days ago.

Now of course, Olivia Newton-John.... not just Grease but many of us had her Greatest Hits LP back in the day, tracks like Physical and the Bond-like A Little More Love. Some great numbers there, and of course like Cliff she suddenly changed her look for the second part of her career.

What is a tad surprising is despite being a decade apart in terms of chart success, both singers were in their 70s - Judy was 79, Olivia, 73, so not far apart at all.

In addition to Olivia Newton-John, the great historian David McCullough has died. His excellent biography of John Adams was turned into a miniseries with Paul Giamatti; and he also provided studies of Harry S. Truman, the Wright brothers, the Johnstown Flood, and many more figures in American history.

I've read several of McCullough's books and enjoyed them very much. He has a rare talent for making history come alive.

RIP both Judith Durham and Olivia Newton John.

I'm not really familiar with Newton John's work apart from her role in Grease, but I could honestly say I was brought up with the voice of Judith Durham as my dad was a big fan.
