It's all tabloid speculation. Mostly guesswork from junior writers looking for a raise, me thinks. I do think Jacob Elordi is a contender, but I don't think he's been offered the role yet over others like Callum Turner. I would be shocked if they've already conducted a screentest.
Lifestyle guide to the products and locations featured in the James Bond films.
Elordi is at this point on the edge of being "too famous for Bond," going by the old rules. It's funny - he was photographed wearing the NTTD Omega in 2023 (while he was a TAG Heuer ambassador, no less 😆) - over two years ago, so his name has been thrown around for a while.
Wuthering Heights shows him somewhat aging into the proper maturity level for Bond.
I think Calvin Dyson has a point in today's video when he says Elordi seems to prefer the weird roles and may end up having a career like Jonny Depp. A mix of the strange and exentric roles and the more mainstream.
He's too tall which seems odd, but it presents a lot of awkward framing for a cinematographer. In Priscilla he towered over everyone and other than musically I am not sure Elvis did that.
He's the same height as Christopher Lee was, I don't remember thinking his cinematographers struggled. Other actors his height include Rock Hudson, Dwayne Johnson, Vince Vaughn, Armie Hammer etc. all of whom fit in shot.
I'm guessing the problems are the same as one gets with short actors. The main difference is that leading men are often expected to be tall, especially in action movies.
Short actors are fixed with boxes, framing, camera placement. They're gonna need to build sets around this dude. Watch him struggle to walk through doors in Wuthering Heights. It's weird!
I mean he's an inch taller than Liam Neeson and David Corenswet, the new Superman. I don't buy that it's suddenly a problem for this one man.
I'm not sure he'll be Bond, indeed I'm not really convinced he'd want it as his career is taking off very nicely right now; but if he didn't it wouldn't be because he's too tall to film, because that's demonstrably not true.
Doors were lower back in the day. Partly to save heat and partly because people were shorter back then. A friend of mine is 6'7''. He has to tilt his head when he walks through modern doors, but never duck. In other words Elori can walk through modern doors without any problems and there won’t be any need to build sets because of his height.
Yes I agree, Turner is kind of in the sweet spot career-wise where he's working and very experienced in film, but I think not what you'd call A-list yet, so a good bet to get hold of. And I think he's pretty well-suited to Bond too.
Elordi has had a run of films which have made him a bit more of a household name, and also put him slightly more into the indie, offbeat drama world. I'm sure he'll do a big glossy Hollywood something or other at some point, but attaching to Bond might actually not be the best career move for him now. But then equally... could you say he's in the same position Chalamet was before he took Dune? A rising indie star heartthrob, takes a big blockbuster directed by Denis Villeneuve and signs on for three of them... ?
We have talked about height, but I also like to consider the voices of James Bond actors. Connery, Moore, Dalton and Craig are all men with deep commanding voices. Elordi's voice is fine, but I prefer Turner's voice.
With so much going on in the world right now could this affect the new bond movie? And as we speek, stephen knight are maybe 50 percent done writing the script, i dont know but could he be still throwing in some of these new events in the script or do you guys think he already have a blueprint of it in his head and doesnt get affected by the events that unfolds?
I’m hoping that real world events are nowhere near the script. I want an outrageous villain (Blofeld, Stromberg style) and an outlandish plot (YOLT, MR style). Old style Bond. It probably won’t happen but that’s what I want.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

Theres plenty of scenarios that can play out that don't have to do with World Domination or several countries at odds. Something like Goldeneye would be good. I have faith we'll get a good Bond movie.
Some people would complain even if you hang them with a new rope
I don't think any spesific current events will play a major role in the plot, and I don't want to see that either. Just as the cold war wasthe backdrop of many Bond movies wecould get a mention of for example the war in Ukraine, but not much more. One aspectof the classic Bond films is getting more important in the real world in many ways, including In the public eye. That's billionairs. They have never before been richer and more powerful and Ihope and belive the next willain will be a multi-billionaire. It's both more realistic and current than ever before and very bondian.
I thought Blyth was quite good in the Billy The Kid series on MGM+. Had no idea he was not American until I looked up his bio. He's listed at 6' tall but in the Billy the Kid series appeared taller. Looks a little young to me (despite his being 31) but given the correct Bond haircut, some grown man clothes and a little make-up magic he might be alright. Even a young Bond still needs to look like he spent some serious time in the military doing some serious stuff prior to being a "00". I don't think the producers should be completely married to an actor's actual age when it comes to casting Bond. I understand that they want to go younger, but many of today's 30 to 35 year olds look more like the 25 year olds of the 50's, 60's and early 70's.
I mean, I can’t give any details, obviously, but I’m loving it. It’s so much fun.
Are we going to hear things soon?
Yeeesss. [Sounds unsure] Depends on what you mean by “soon,” but yeah. I mean, things are moving along quite nicely.
I'd give the link but it's a spoiler for the new Peaky Blinders film which folks might not appreciate. If you don't mind that, have a google for Steven Knight Variety.
When we look at the news these days we see an unstable world, hybrid warfare, billionaires are richer and more powerful than ever, space travel, daring special operations etc. Stephen Knight has plenty of inspiration as he's writing the script for Bond26.
Yes. Thats almost the same thing i wrote couple of weeks ago. This gonna be very interesting the next year or so, how this movie is shaping out. All i want is bond back with a bang😀

He's still a giant.

If Spectre had been Craig's swansong, we could've had a different Turner... Aidan Turner.
Another problem I had with ATJ, to be honest.
Elvis was 5'11". I found Elordi's height to be a distraction that they did not seem to try to hide.

Unfortunately there are plenty of outrageous villains in real life 🫣

Other more general trends can be used in Bond movies, such as the strong focus on Arctic regions.
A Russian assassination unit exposed.
Steven Knight has plenty of material for a new SMERSH.
I recently watched Plainclothes and Tom Blyth gives a very good performance in that film - very internal and raw. He looks good to me as a young 007.

Yep, JTBond posted that a couple of weeks ago in the Knight thread:
More up to date are his comments to Variety:
Lastly, speaking of films, how’s Bond going?
I mean, I can’t give any details, obviously, but I’m loving it. It’s so much fun.
Are we going to hear things soon?

Can anyone think of any trends or current events we see now that fits a James Bond film really well?
