Why I adore Quantom of Solace

Long, evil day.

A quantum of solace was what I needed when I came home.

Found it and realized why I adore it so much:

- The title song and its lyrics (they nail what Bond is about and has been ever since).

- The beauty of the location/city labels.

-"When someone says "We've got people everywhere", you expect it to be hyperbole. Lots of people say that. Florists use that expression."

- The whole Bregenz Opera sequence.

- Judie Dench removing her make-up/unmasking in front of her bathroom mirror.

- Mathis quoting the Casino Royale novel.

- Bond asking Mathis to come with him and his immediate reaction (yes, the little finger and the prospect of just watching her tan more).

- "I have pills for everything. Some make you taller. Some make you forget."

- "I think she has handcuffs."

- The Andean Grand Hotel and two teachers on sabbatical who won the lottery.

- The stationary scene.

- "Just Fields."

- Field's dress.

- The south american exile nazi at Greene's party.

- Leiter's disdain on the plane and on the party.

- "Damaged Goods"

- The "dumpster scene"

- "That offends you? No, not the slightest."

- A smoking/tuxedo and an evening dress (without shoes) in the desert.

- "RUN". And Bond going upstairs unarmed.

- A hotel room full of black dressed men and M in the middle all in white. Chess. With a white queen moving.

- A hotel in the desert as compared to an ice palace in .... you know what. Almost like an apology.

- Camille FIGHTING and being the cat she is.

- NOT seeing the major villain die but staging a death more prolongued and cruel than anything before.

- "Do you think they'll be able to sleep now?"

- "Your prison is in there."

- The cut from a sun parched desert to snowy Kazan.

- Corinne.

- The gun barrel sequence at the end to wrap Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace up. Beginning. Closure.

If you don't like Quantum of Solace, open up a similar (negative) thread or go and do something... else.

Let's (for once) keep the negative stuff out on a 007 board.

And give up some praise.

For this beauty that helped me through the day.

So what do *you* adore about Quantum of Solace?

Cheers.

It tells a YOLT-type revenge story of Bond going after those responsible for the death of his lady love - something we never got after OHMSS in '69. Not a perfect fit, but substituting Tracy for Vesper in my mind is surprisingly easy, with the end of QOS becoming an eye-opening modern coda to that earlier film. If EON had waited 40 years to actually make a direct sequel to OHMSS, very likely it would look a lot like QOS inclusive of casting changes, Spectre updated, etc., so the anachronisms film-to-film just don't phase me much. Plus I'm a big fan of the editing. :D

Try watching them back to back, going from Laz to Craig, and Hunt to Forster both work quite well IMO (even Arnold's little twangy music cues help with that transition, lol).

What you are smelling is a fellow German from Trier who considers himself a forum lurker travelling a lot businesswise and who posts in "short bursts" when he's at home for a week or two.

    Amazing nose.

By the way, keep that nonsense up and I'll report for harassment.
It was childish crap first I could easily ignore but starts to get on my nerves now.

Oh, yeah, that's Rick Roberts as we all know him.

By the way, I am not from Trier, but the rest you have observed well.
I am not a lurker, you should see this from my post count and please report me - whereever you please.

But if you are reporting me here, please do me a favour: Just ask them to check your ip with the one from Rick Roberts and Ricardo C. Or did you get a new provider in the new year?

I for my part am waiting for the pathetic insults to come, you can't hide them!

To be honest, had a Vesper too many myself yesterday evening during Quantum of Solace.

    Messes with your memory.

Thanks for pointing out the plane scene.

Love that scene. Craig does a great job of looking like someone who is smashed, but handling it.

-"If they wanted his soul they should have made a deal with a priest."

    Lots of good lines, actually.

Gotta appreciate Craig's acting skills, especially the way he mutters the priest line.

Could have been ruined so easily by over-emphasizing it or delivering it in a "look, I'm funny" way.

He found the perfect balance there.

So yes, Mr_Ice, great line and scene indeed!

"I don't think the dead care about vengeance."

Clearly, the people who fell in love with the early Bond films don't believe in little something called evolution. Characters grow and evolve over the years and that's exactly what James Bond has done. I mean, Batman has evolved over the years so, what's wrong with the evolution of a Double-O Agent?

Sorry it this has been posted Before,But I've Just learned on another forum ( Sorry if the same guy is on here) That not only was QOS the most expensive Bond film ever made. But when taking running time to cost of production in to account, QOS comes out at around $2.16 Mil a Minute, Making it the most expensive Movie ever made. I wonder can anyone confirm this as I think it's amazing. If True :))
