  • First up, is the famous JOSEPH WISEMAN who off course played the role of Dr. NO in the first bond film.

There are hundreds of these autographs online and everyone claiming to be genuine.
I can tell you now, from a close friend of Joseph, he didn't like signing autographs. He particularly hated signing in anything other than a thin tip black pen or black/blue biro. So BEWARE of autographs signed by him in sharpie. His signature obviously changed drastically over the years and vintage autographs from him are very hard to come by.

Below is my Joseph Wiseman, signed by Joseph in New York at his home. This was when he quite old as you can see by the shortened signature, which almost look like Joseph W.

    Joseph_Wiseman.jpg
  • Next is MILTON REID who was in three bond films. He was one of Dr. No guards in his crabkey hideout. His biggest role was that of SANDOR in The Spy Who Loved Me. And he also had another minor role as one of the Temple Guards where Marta Bond is living in India during Casino Royale 1967.

Milton was also a wrestler known as THE MIGHTY CHANG. He has a number of credits in large productions and was a real eccentric in real life. He used to drive a big pink Cadillac when he lived in London and nearly always wore snake boots.
Someone once took the mickey out of him for being "feminine". Which is why he nearly ALWAYS signed with GAYLORD in between Milton and Reid.

His autograph in genuine form is extremely rare. The fakes that I have seen from him are in very small writing. This is peculiar as he had huge hands would understandably have quite bold writing. The fake autographs also look like he has spelt Seyband instead of Gaylord as the middle name. Again make sure his autograph looks bold and distinguishable.

Below is my Milton Reid. Signed in the early 1980's. I bought this from an American collector who had contact with Milton from 1978 to about 1983. He sent him all sorts of items, including a film on tape which was apparently a home movie. Although knowing how eccentric Milton was, he has never dared to watch it!

Next is one of the most faked autographs on the bond collecting scene: HAROLD "ODDJOB" SAKATA. He off course played the famous role of Oddjob in the third film Goldfinger.

Harold was also a famous wrestler, known as THE GREAT TOSH TOGO. Autographs which are genuine from him go for a lot of money. Be prepared to pay in excess of £300 for a bondstill signed by him and about £120 for a signed album page.
Harold had quite a varying signature and after his role as Oddjob, he would nearly always be credited as Harold Oddjob Sakata.
He sometimes also added his deadly derby flying hat which he would sometimes draw on the autograph too.
The hardest thing with his autograph is the way he wrote he "H" in Harold and the "S" in Sakata. This changed ALOT depending on his mood and how much space there was available. The rest of his name however was always signed the same, so look for consistencies in the AROLD and and AKATA although again the K in Sakata could also changed in shape and size.

Below are both my Sakata autographs. The first in a vintage brown album page, bought from a reputable dealer back in 2004. And the second autograph of his, is on an 8x10 vintage publicity still from the film "DIMENSION 5", also purchased from a reputable UACC dealer. If you look closely at the credits at the bottom of the image, he is credited as Harold "Oddjob" Sakata.

It's merely a suggestion, but how about asking a mod to add your knowledge to the James Bond articles part of ajb? You seem to be well versed in autograph knowledge and i welcome any advice to help people avoid being scammed.

  • Next is another autograph faked the world over. This is also due to him being in the famous film JAWS.

ROBERT SHAW who played Donald "Red" Grant in the second film, From Russia With Love.

Robert's signature is a very tough one to get, the reason because so many of the fakes are that good, you can barely tell the difference. You must be prepared to (once again) dish out a lot of money for him. One like this below, would be about £120. The only way to get a 100% genuine autograph from him, is to buy an autograph with a lot of provenance and from a major collector or auction house. BEWARE of Robert's autograph on bondstills. They are extremely rare and if genuine, will reach a price of £400 - £500 plus. I am yet to see any autograph from him with a marker pen so if you see one, stay clear would be my opinion!

I bought this from a large lot sold at RR Auctions in the US. They are the biggest autograph specialist auction house in the states and if you want to sell a piece at high price, they will get it for you. I bought several other pieces for this collection, hence why many of my cards are signed "To Joe".

Thank you very much Minigeff, your kind words are very much appreciated it! I would welcome such an opportunity but my only problem is the time to do all this. Because I do a lot of travelling, I do struggle to fit everything in. However I am always here to help, and anyone needing anything is welcome to PM me anytime! :)

    Thanks again for your kind words -{
  • Next up is another famed actor GERT FROBE who was one of the most famous 007 villains of all time: Auric Goldfinger.

Gert Frobe did sign quite a lot, especially through the mail so you will find a lot of examples of his signatures on small 3x5 black & white postcards like the one below. The rarer signed items from him are ones signed on 8x10 stills and even rare are 8x10 Bondstills.

I have seen numerous Gert Frobe autograph on bondstills signed in black sharpie. My advice would be that most are fake. Although he did sign many in a black marker, the fake autographs are normally very thick and hard pressed. So make sure the texture and thickness and above all the neat way in which he signed. If you can't see his signature and letters clearly, then its most probably a fake.

Below is a vintage Goldfinger postcard, signed by him. I bought this from a good friend of mine about 4 years ago. This is a very common shot of him, so expect to pay between £50 to £75 for one like this.

    Gert_Frobe.jpg
  • Next up is another famous villain but an extremely hard autograph to find: ANTHONY DAWSON who was off course the part of Professor Dent in Dr. No. He also returned as the "body" of Ernst Stavro Blofeld in both From Russia With Love and in Thunderball.

Anthony was a famed Hitchcock actor and up until about 2 years ago, an autograph from him was virtually unseen. However there have been several that have come to market in recent months, only a few that I have seen are genuine.

Towards the latter end of his life (Like most of us) his signature got shorter, and instead of signing Anthony Dawson, he signed Anthy Dawson. I have seen an autograph floating around from a seller on ebay in Germany, which I can tell you is definitely not authentic.
My autograph below of Anthony is the earliest I have seen. Signed in the 1950's, he has signed his name clearly and boldly in black fountain pen. Value wise, a photo from him non bond, your looking at £200 +. An album page, probably around £120 depending on the age of it. I would say the one displayed here would be fractionally more valuable than one signed as Anthy Dawson.
This one came from the same collection as the Robert Shaw and certainly took some tracking down as my fellow collector Tillymasterson will tell you!! :))

When looking to buy one from him, take a look at his characteristic way of writing the A of Anthony and the DA of Dawson.

  • HERVE VILLECHAIZE who played the role of Nik Nak in The Man With The Golden Gun.

Herve was also famous for playing the role of TATOO in the Tv series Fantasy Island, alongside fellow Bondstar Christopher Lee.

Signatures from Herve are not the rarest, except on bondshots. And several of the ones I have seen, to me do not look genuine. It can be difficult to tell because off course due to the nature and size of his small hands, if he was holding a big pen, it would not be as neat as him using a small pen.

Below is small 3x5 vintage postcard of him as Tatoo. I bought this from a small antiques shop while on holiday in Cornwall many years ago. Check for consistencies in the way he signs HERVE, mainly because the Villechaize part of the autograph, tended to change depending on his mood. A vintage postcard like this would be about £70-100.

I wonder what to look for in an authentic autograph by Diana Rigg?

Dame Diana Rigg is brilliant at signing and she does sign through the mail. I will try and find the time to post mine when I get the chance when I get back home next week.

In the meantime if you find and your not sure, just post it on here with a link and I can have a look! :)

Both the Dame Diana Rigg and the Sir Roger Moore autographs are genuine.

    Skocia:

The Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton and Llewelyn all look fine to me.

I am not 100% certain on the Brosnan and definitely not sure about the Craig but then again they both have signatures that can vary a lot! I would definitely get those checked out further. Where did you get them if you don't mind me asking?

    Hope this helps -{

    Thank you

The Brosnan/Llewelyn one was bought on an ebay auction from a seller in America. The COA is from Caps Snaps so I presume this is where the seller originally got it from. I have done a search for Caps Snaps and couldn't find any information about them. My uneducated opinion was that because the Brosnan was in a different colour of ink that it might make it more likely to be genuine though of course that could be another trick.

The Daniel Craig one was also from ebay. The story was that this came from the Skyfall premiere I think. The only thing I know is that I can definitely feel the ink lines on the photo. This one wasn't expensive, I think I won the auction for around £5. The ebay seller is no longer registered with ebay so no idea what the story is behind that though certainly doesn't do anything to convince me it's genuine.

Found an interesting collection on Ebay! I have no intentions on buying but just thought people would like to see this and perhaps give opinions! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/40-x-James-Bond-007-Autographs-Signed-Photos-all-with-UACC-COAs-Skyfall-inc-/181075236033?pt=UK_DVD_Film_TV_Autographs_CV&hash=item2a28ecd4c1

    Hi guys.

I'm just curious about which people from the films are most common on the convention circuit (Therefore having the most common autograph to buy)

I hear Richard Kiel does a lot of them but who are some other common ones?

I'm not sure about the convention circuit but I see a lot of Caroline Munro who plays Naomi from TSWLM.

Hello, just joined this site and would like to know who you'd suggest as a reputable dealer in autographs. I'm looking for autographed photos of Diana Rigg from OHMSS. I've read here that they should be AFTA or UACC registered dealers and I contacted star-shots on ebay as they claim to be a UACC member but I couldn't find them listed on the UACC site. They said they were originally a dealer but are now just a member. They said that the UACC no longer has autograph shows so there's no way to determine whether a member has authentic autographs or not. They said basically that all it means is that you pay dues to the UACC and there's no guarantee of authenticity but that they are a respected autograph dealer and other autograph dealers will vouch for them. Does anyone know if this is the case?
    Thnaks, David

    Hi David,

The main thing with AFTAL or UACC dealers is that it does mean that if an autograph you bought from a UACC Dealer (Not Member, it has to be a dealer) it means that the UACC can intervene and basically make that member refund you or they will most likely lose their UACC Dealership.

Unless you have seen the autograph signed in front of you, its very difficult to prove that something is real other than spending a lot with an authentication company, but it does help if an autograph dealer is a member of an autograph governing body.

Someone like Bondcollectibles for examples, do NOT represent or are part of an autograph governing body. So if you had an problems with an autograph from them (and there have been so many over the years), its simply your word against his, with no one else to help you.

Dame Diana Rigg does actually sign through the mail, so if did a bit of research and find out her fan mail address, I am sure you can get an autograph that way and it will be personalised to you if you ask no doubt!

    Hope this helps!

Director John Glen was quickly to reply.

Unfortunately, Ebay messed up a lot... As signatures are offered for sale by the dozen, many stars have stopped signing by mail. Some of them send back a reference to their website and the autographs for sale on that site.
Other don't respond at all, sadly... You can always try, but be sure not to send (emotionally) valuable items to sign as you might never see them again.

As Skocia suggested, you can also get genuine autographs at an acceptable price on Bondstars.com.

If you search the web you can find certain celebrities that have their own websites with information about autograph signatures. Jane Seymour has some site but autograph requires a donation to her charity, Richard Kiel has a site I believe he charges $10 to sign items, Tanya Roberts has a website I believe it is 25 for signed autograph. I would recommend buying the Bond trading cards because these are most likely authentic since a company paid the stars to sign these autographs. I have not used bond stars but their prices are extremely high. Yes I would pay $70 bucks for a Roger Moore autograph but some of the other stars that price is outrageous (just my view).
