Working on the next bit. I find get stale when I'm writing rather quickly. So in may be in small excerpts. Sorry.

My only 'criticism' is that it was over too soon, I wanted to read more there & then!
I'll try to post it in longer excerpts. But I do think it works well having a little a day.
I've purposefully tried to write in with Craig in mind. Bridging the gap between Fleming and the films.

    No Stone Left Unturned-
    Part 2

James Bond silently slurped the end of his tonic and gin and held it out in the air for a passing servant to collect it. He felt his fake moustache slip a little from top lip. All he wanted to do was rip it off and set it a light with his Ronson. He had a job do to. He could not let his own personal self-control issues get in front of a mission M had personally selected him for. For at that moment he knew he was not 007. He was Melis Reben, President of the Fijian Islands. That’s all that counted and mattered.
‘You ready, Melis?’ Bond turned to his press secretary. A lovely Indian lady called Prihiba. Like most of Reben’s inner staff; she was totally out of the dark. She’d never met the real Miles Reben. The man who had given up so much of his life for Fiji. It only struck Bond recently how much the two men had in common. Orphaned at a young age. Eton and Oxford. When this was all over and done he thought he might actually pop over to Nadi and Suva again. Invite him for a drink. He nodded to Prihiba who handed Bond his notes.
‘What is this?’ She smiled and gave him a friendly punch on the shoulder.
‘Your inauguration speech, Mr Reben. To win over the hearts of all the Fijians on the Islands.’ Bond almost swore under his breath. Luckily she had taken it as a half-hearted joke. He pecked her check lightly.
‘Wish me luck.’ One of the guards opened the main door of the waiting room, while the other flicked off the welcoming fan by the corner. With the main door open, Bond saw a glimmer of light down the corridor towards the balcony. It was his crowd; he started to hear the roar of the audience. He saw a flag. He made his way to the door. Limping in character.
‘Mr Reben, Oh my Reben,’ Prihiba cried, catching up to him. He turned.
‘You forgot your glasses, how on earth are you going to read your speech?’ He laughed a gentle, Santa Claus laugh and placed his glasses onto his head. Everything became blury. He couldn’t see a single thing.
‘Bless you, my dear.’ After pushing the glasses ever so slightly down his face he made his way down the corridor. A trumpet started playing as the wave of sunlight his untanned face. It was like standing up at a football game. All the crowd was staring at Bond. They waved their flags. He was welcomed by flashing cameras from the left of him. He turned to smile at the jouranlists. All of them were Islanders all Indian except for one. She looked English. Her brunette hair waved gently in the wind. Their eyes met. She winked. He stared at her name tag. Emily
He suddenly imagined M’s disapproving face against the crowd.
‘Behave, Bond. Behave.’ He cleared his throat. He always thought he was good at speeches but he remembered how many across the globe would be watching this. M would be watching this in his room, Tanner beside him. Moneypenny would have found an excuse to nip into the room. Q would probably deny an interest but have it set up in his lab. Goodnight, however, would not be able to watch it. There were something’s she took very seriously. She would probably try and forget what was going on; busying herself with paperwork. He found it easier to concentrate on one person to start off his speech. Then after easing himself into and finding his flow he could look around at the crowd. All he needed was to throw himself into the speech with gusto. He looked down at the words then back at the crowd. He cleared his throat which caused the crowd to roar with clapping.
    He cleared it again.
    More clapping.
He was about to clear it one more time but then he refrained himself. Instead he placed his arm wide into the air.
‘Good Morning, People of Fiji!’ He felt beads of sweat appear at the back of his neck. He wasn’t sure if it was from nerves or the heat. He focused on Emily at first. Her smile. Her eyes.
‘It brings me the upmost joy and pleasure to address the whole nation today. As your new President and Leader.’ He paused for the clapping to once again die down. This was the easy part. He was more worried about the final goodbyes in which he had to speak in Hindi.
‘I understand the trials and tribulations you are going through at this present time. Your trials are my trials. Your tribulations are my tribulations. Change is a good thing. We need direct action. We need promises to be made and then kept.’ He moved his eyes off the young journalist. His voice begun to waver.
‘I, assure you all. I offer this change. I apoligise to you all the tough and swift way I came into power. I realised…’ He paused mid-speech. His eyes fluttered amongst the people. He thought he had spotted something amongst the crowd. His eyes laid on Greg. His eyes conveyed the message easily.
    ‘Hurry up and continue.’
‘I realised the need to act relentlessly and quickly. We do not have the time to act slowly in Fiji. Times are changing. We need to change with it…’ He thought he spotted it again. Someone move very quickly in the crowd. He turned to the two bodyguards. They were completely unaware of anything. He smiled quickly to the crowd and started speaking faster.
‘I offer the ability to increase our sugar production by 10%. I’m talking about more jobs and more opportunites.’ Bond then saw what he was after. A man. Near the front. His head turned away from what he was saying while everyone else was listening intently. He had something in his right hand that he couldn’t quite make out. He raised it. Aiming it straight at Bond. It was a Heckler and Koch. It made sense. The guards would be watching intently for a sniper on a nearby building. No one would have the nerves to sneak up with a hand-pistol. He had less than a second to decide his action. So he dropped to the ground. Hearing the shot ring out across the crowd made everyone panic. People started to run everywhere. They ran towards Bond. Their outstretched arms attempting to grasp him. Yet Bond knew it was too late for them to do anything. He knew the man was an excellent shot. The bullet had hit his chest. He felt himself lurch forward, tipping over his glass of water and shattering his glasses on to the concrete. His left hand tried desperately to cling on to the railing but he missed. He felt his feet slip from where they stood rigid and his body fall off the balcony towards the concrete below.
The crowd screamed in panic as they saw their President fall off the balcony to mass below. It was like he was suddenly thrown on to their level. Bond pictured Moneypenny fainting and M swearing violently in his office. He stood up. An Indian Journalist had sheltered his fall. He had ended up landing on top of the man. Crushing him with his weight.
With one light tug, Bond ripped the moustache off his face, taking hairs with it. Taking off the military jacket he had to wear; and the beret. Bond was assured that no-one would recognise him. He was not the President anymore. He was a regular citizen. A citizen with a grudge…

One good thing about continuation work - fan fiction as opposed to 'authorised' material - is the fact that the former is done for love not money.

    Part 3
As Bond gathered his bearings; watching the crowd scream and bustle around him he knew that he was lucky for two reasons. The first and most important reason was that the bullet had missed is delicate head. Instead, hitting his chest, protected by the strongest form of Bulletproof Vest he could get a hold of. Two, he was fortunate enough to invest in a leg holster, which sat rather comfortable his favourite weapon, a Walther PPK. Having ditched his Beretta long before his Casino assignment, all those years ago, he was pleased to have his old friend with him. Pulling his pant leg up, he collected the Walther from its hiding spot and juggled it for a few seconds between his hands. A sigh of relief corsed through his body because he knew he was finally doing what he did best. He had reached his comfort zone. Bond was never one for carefully planned covers and rehearsed speeches. When the time came for an unhealthy amount of large force and violence, Bond felt like he could deliver it in spades. This was because it was his job; the blunt instrument. His eyes gazing through the forest of people, landing on a secluded spot by the large poster of him. He knew this was the assassin because the man was calm. Everyone else around him was yelling and screaming. Everyone was running around in circles. The TV cameras had lost sight of their dearly beloved new President and people were scrambling for shelter. This man, stood in the middle of it, searching gingerly with his head for his target, so he could have another opportunity to kill him. Giving up, the man slowly placed his Heckler and Koch back into his shoulder-holster. Bond’s legs lurched forward, his own body was yelling at him to slow down as he started to run. Keeping his eyes on the assassin, Bond weaved his way through the Fijians; his head trying to clear itself of all the background static. Greg met him on the staircase as the two jumped the steps three at a time.
‘007. What do you think you’re doing? Go back and play dead, I’ve got him.’ Bond almost laughed out loud. MI6 expected him to still pretend he was the President while the man got away.
‘Shut up and follow my lead,’ he heard himself say to Greg, ‘He’s heading for the Beach.’
During his tour of the Fiji Islands, Bond presumed his inauguration speech would be at Suva, the Capital. Yet the real Miles Reben; contacting them at his safe house, refused every city a part from Lautoka, the Sugar City, the place where he currently lived. Bond had never been to the Sugar City before, and found himself lost in its busy roads and streets.
The assassin had reached the intersection and skipped across it lightly turning around to spot the two men chasing after him. After being spotted, Bond had to increase his pace to match up with the man who started to sprint. Not bothering to look both ways at the road, Bond ignored the abuse he got from the drivers who had to brake for him. He felt Greg pass him on his right. Some people were just fitter then others. Having crossed the road, the Assassin had entered a large park, looking out of place with the kids and young mothers. Bond had slowed down but Greg had kept his pace.
‘Stand back. I got this.’ Bond was about to call out but it was too late. Before Greg could aim take his P99 out of his holster, the assassin had already revealed his Heckler and Koch from his hiding spot again. Pulling the trigger twice, Greg fell against the bark, his body dropping by a large kids yellow slide. He wanted to stop and comfort the dying man but Bond knew he couldn’t let the assassin slip away. More determined than ever, Bond followed the man to the end of the park. The assassin was an expert. He had done this many times, Bond realised, as the man hopped over the wooden fence on to the Fijian Sand. Knowing he couldn’t keep his sprinting pace for much longer, Bond fired his Walther at the fence. Weakening the wood, he placed his shoulder down and tore through the fence. Landing on his face into a couple of startled sunbathers he stood up and apologised. He smiled weakly at them as he watched the assailant strip off his jacket and pants to reveal a wetsuit. He had come prepared. What did plan to do? Swim to New Zealand? He ran towards the beach in pursuit, overhearing the final words from the woman he had bumped into.
‘Hey, wasn’t that the president?’ Bond did not have a luxury of a swim suit. Instead quickly ripped his shoes off, pulled his shirt off, superman style, and ditched them on the beach. Stuffing his Walther into his pants, he dove head first into the water. A sudden memory flashed into Bond’s mind. It was a beach in Cannes, South of France. He was about six years old. His father, was with him.
‘Kick with your legs, son. Long and powerful kicks.’
He did so now, just like those many years ago.
‘Your arms, one at a time. High above your Head, fingers curved.’
He did so in Fiji. His head only above water for a few moments at a time. He remembered spotting his Father, twenty metres in front of him. Treading water.
‘Swim to me, James, Just swim to me.’ His six-year old body crossed his arms and he remembered crying. He did not want to.
‘Swim to me and we can go home.’
‘Come on. I know you can do it.’
Bond started swimming. His legs like a motorboat, forcing himself further and further into the sea. He looked up to see his father, who had swum out more. The image of his father, laughing and cheering him on turned into the assassin. His wetsuit highlighting himself to Bond in the Fijian waves. Bond spotted a pontoon in the distance. Kids would do dive bombs into the water from it. Continuing with his furious freestyle, Bond realized that he was gaining on the man. Only ever so slightly though. Reaching the Pontoon first, the Assassin shot the two kids who were playing on it.
What was he doing? Bond slowed his freestyle down and swum underneath the water, reaching the Pontoon from the other side, facing the sea. As he slowly placed his head above the water he heard the whirring of a helicopter nearby. So that was the man’s game. Reaching for his Walther, Bond freaked as he realised the gun must have fallen from his pants while he was swimming furiously earlier. Now he was unarmed, and with only a few precious moments until the helicopter released its safety rope and the assassin got away scot-free. Bond knew he still had the advantage of surprise however, as the man scoped the other side of the pontoon for him. It was now or never. He had to act. Throwing himself on to the pontoon he rushed towards the man. Hearing the noise, the man turned around to fire but it was too late. Rugby tackling the man off the pontoon, Bond felt the rush of water hit his face and the man’s Heckler and Koch disappear into the water. Now they were at least even.
The man wriggled away from his grasp, kicking him firmly in the face as he pulled himself up on to the pontoon. Hearing the helicopter louder in his ear, Bond attempted to pull himself up the same way. Only to be kicked brutally in the face, pushing him back into the water. The man had the highground. He had the advantage. Throwing his head underwater, Bond skimmed his hand against the dirt and grit at the bottom of the sea. Grasping a large amount of it; Bond swum towards the pontoon once more. As the assassin turned to kick him off once more; he aimed the dirt at the man’s face and expertly threw it. It his square on and the he stumbled back, rubbing the grit from his eyes. Using those few special moments, he pulled himself up on to the pontoon. Ignoring the obscenities said by the man, Bond held his hands up in a typical boxing pose. The assassin smiled. It was the first opportunity Bond got to get a good look at him. He was well-over six-foot. He was Caucasian, but definitely not English. The way his lower jaw slacked and his blue piercing eyes. With one quick roundhouse kick, Bond’s relaxed but ready pose was demolished. This man had been training for months for this day. He had met his match all right. His right fist collided with Bond’s jaw as he fell back on to the hard concrete of the pontoon platform. He had landed against a body of one of the innocent bystanders. Poor Kid. Holding the corpse up, he threw it towards the assassin. Who easily dodged it with one small jump to the right. Wanting desperately to get up and have another go at the man Bond attempted to sit himself up. He was instantly shut down with another kick, in the abdomen, one kick in the groin and punch in the head. He was allowing this man to have a field day with him!
    The man stopped.
Bond closed his eyes for a few moments. How on earth was he supposed to explain this to M. He had failed, given up on duty. Greg Red, or whatever he called himself, was probably dying on that kid slide by himself. And Bond, well he did not know what to do except stay where he was.
‘Keep swimming Bond, you can do it!’
His father’s voice returned to his head. His father, Andrew Bond, who sat in a grave in Scotland.
‘You can do it, my boy! For me!’
He opened his eyes, the helicopter must have been right above them now. He saw the emergency rope fall down to the pontoon. The man wrapped his legs around it and held it tight with his arms. He closed his eye once more.
    ‘Come on, James!’
Opening his eyes again he saw the assassin wave a signal to the helicopter. He had one last chance. Moving ever so slightly with his hands he grabbed on to the man’s foot. The assassin looked down but before he could kick Bond away the helicopter moved forwards; lifting the two together into the air. Clinging to the man’s ankle, Bond felt himself being lifted into the air. Looking around, he noticed the pontoon becoming smaller in his eyes. This was insane.
‘Get off of me!’ He felt the man’s ankle thrash around in his grasp. He looked up at the man, who spat furiously into Bond’s face. He was trying everything to desperately get loose of Bond.
‘Who do you work for?’ A memory flashed into Bond’s mind. Patrice in Shanghai. He asked the same question to him yet he remembered what happened next.
‘Go to hell.’ The assassin’s other foot slammed into Bond’s face, causing his nose to bleed. He swung around, his brain rocking inside his skull. Spotting the helicopter from his angle. He read what was written on its side. Stone Inc.
It looked like he didn’t need the man anyway.
‘Stone Inc, huh?’ The man did not say a word, but instead continued thrashing violently.
‘So that’s who hired you?’ It was at that moment that it occurred to Bond that it was only one way he could get out of this situation alive. With all of his final strength, he pulled the man’s ankle violently down. As expected; the man let go of his rope and the two men came crashing down towards the water. Bond had timed it perfectly however. Throwing himself to the left, he landed, feet first into the deep water. The assassin however, landed, head first on to the pontoon. Bond heard the crack of the skull as the man’s body crushed against the floating piece of concrete. The helicopter silently flew away as Bond, started to slowly swim to shore…

Thank you but it won't be ready for quite a while - though you have already read a couple of snippets from it as posted in this thread under the same title. I have spent quite a bit of time getting the historical facts of the period correct as well as the 'legend' of the main character. I plan it to be the first of a series. Making money not being the object, rather to get something out there which hopefully will be shared & enjoyed as a ripping spy yarn.

Oh yes, of course I fully understand that these things take time even though I only really write non-fiction myself. :)

I was just wondering if there has been any progress on the short story front? I'm looking forward to reading more fan work.

I guess time is the enemy for us all.

In the meantime I have been busy (when I get the chance) with my proposed novelette. I'm still working on the background to my main character & his place in the scheme of things. Wishing to be historically as accurate as possible I have woven a fictitious department into the various actual British intelligence & sabotage apparatus of the time. As said, because I intend 'An Ungentlemanly Act' to introduce the main character as part of a series I have been taking my time making sure things are correct before I actually start writing. The storyline is in place & a few chapters have already been written but I am definitely not going to rush this project.

Expect plenty of action & many twists & turns.

Stag, I finally got around to reading 'BLOWBACK', and thought it was a cracking story. Very Fleming-esque. My favourite bit was the fight between Bond and van der Byl in the hotel room, which was very well done and descriptive, and brutal enough to be evocative of the From Russia With Love train fight, what with the image of two dangerous men really going at each other. Keep up the good work!

Thank you very much for your kind words & I'm glad you enjoyed it. For my story to be described as 'Fleming-esque' is a compliment indeed!
