Kamen's scores for Highlander & X-Men are two of my favourites of all time, so I can cut him some slack for his fairly generic (yes, that's ME using that word) LTK score.
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

Much as I agree re the LTK score, we've wandered off-topic. The TLD score is on-topic, so I'll say that at the time it was an improvement on the (still respectable) AVTAK score and at least Barry went out on a high.

Each to their own. It's a better film than many. I just wish he wouldn't have to blink back the tears so often, he could have been great if it wasn't for that.

You typed "note" at the end there & then deleted it because it seemed awkward, didn't you? :D ;)

Honestly, no joke or exaggeration, I get chills listening to the score when I watch the movie. To me, for this particular Bond, it's sheer perfection. And I don't find it dated in the least.

He would never admit to the fact that Timbo could have been great.

Hi. I'm a newbie and a little late in the game for this thread but I wanted to ditto the original post. I was 12 years old when TLD came out and I had just been introduced to the world of 007 because I kept watching this movie called AVTAK on HBO. I liked it quite a bit so when TLD opened I asked my mother to take me. I'll never forget that cinematic experience. I fell in love with TD as Bond and I have seen all the Bonds about a zillion times each. But TLD will always be my favorite and Dalton is my favorite Bond. Literally everything about that film gives me goosebumps every time I watch it. Only CR has been able to match those feelings.

TLD is the best Bond film IMHO. Music was Barry's best as was the car... i love that Aston!

Nice to see my feelings echoed here.

Oh, make no mistake. I see that glisten. It's the mark of a Human man FEELING something rather than a comfortable actor lolly-gagging about in a fun role. :))

The Boffins at the AJB nerve centre, are working on a select
Band of " Dalton Guide Dogs" to be used by those who can't see
    How good he was.
The dogs will quietly bark at great acting moments, and growl
When they hear the beginnings of a disparaging comment. ;)
If there is no change in attitude then the dogs will pee on the
Nearest pair of gaudy trainers ! :))

I did watch it again recently. Unfortunately, my appreciation for it waned a little bit bit. I totally agree with the direction it wanted to go into (a dark gritty cerebral) plot but the cast and acting was weak. The villains didn't have much depth or originality. Kara Milovy wasn't sexually objectified, but that aside, she was bland and her relationship with Bond wasn't very convincing.

The 2nd half of the movie gets interesting for sure, but the first half isn't very good. They wanted to have the standard Bond formula (Moneypenny flirt, "one hour - better make that two") elements, but while these were well suited for Connery and Moore, they come out as plain awkward with Dalton. License to Kill was a much better outlet for Dalton's darker take on Bond.

LTK and TLD are two completely different films. TLD is a semi serious Bond film, which has the gadgets and car equivalent to previous films, with a more realistic plot, which results in realistically bland villains. LTK is a dark revenge film, that is toned down on gadgetry, but has a memorable Bond villain. They're both very good films though.

A huge problem for me is the very slow score. They play the Bond theme so slowly in the action scenes that all tension is lost. It's more suitably paced for a slow ice skating video, not a high speed fight on top of a Land Rover. This fault is repeated in the music in pretty much all the action scenes. It's not something I really noticed in the previous gazillion views, but somehow tonight it stood out and is just annoying me. There was always something I couldn't put my finger on with this film, and now I know.

Disagree 100%, I love this score.

I have to disagree too, it is one of the best, and suits every scene perfectly.

There's a few problems with TLD.

    1) It wants to be serious but remains jokey in parts
    2) Dalton does not do the oneliners well.
    3) Uninteresting villains.
    4) Too many John Glen "trademarks" like the monkeys, the family of 3 (and their dog) swerving, explosion of box/shed directly behind car. I don't mind those things, but doesn't fit in TLD.

HOWEVER, TLD is top 2 for me at the moment. Why?

    1) The score, one of if not the best
    2) Necros vs Green 4 is one of the best fights in the series.
    3) Fight hanging from back of plane, another top stunt/fight
    4) Car chase, cello scene
    5) Spy thriller
    6) Dalton

Despite having some out of place humour, I like the mix between the serious and the fun....best of both worlds.

Koskov, yes. Whitaker isn't so special. Necros is fantastic, though.

TLD has the worst Felix, but one of the best allies in Pushkin.

I agree, The Living Daylights does get better everytime, and look how much a fan I am now!

I found Licence To Killto be funnier of the two, due to the score, and Dalton and Davi's one liners.

Can't argue here! First time I saw this one was in 2007/2008 as I was a more casual Bond fan during my school years (growing up with Brosnan I watched all his films, my parents would show me a few Connery's and Moore's, but it wasn't until 2007/2008 that I had DVR and was able to record many of them during a Bondathon on TV). My thoughts were that this was the most boring Bond film of all time. I think this was caused by two factors. The cinematography was pretty straight forward and effects were minimal. Growing up in the Brosnan era of explosions and the introduction of digital effects, it seemed a step backward (but not as explainable like the Moore or Connery films that came years before). The second was that the plot is one of the less straight forward stories and I was multitasking on my laptop, so I quickly became lost with what was transpiring.

While watching through the films during the QoS/SF gap, it steadily rose in my opinion, with the following rankings over the years:

    2012: 11th
    2013: 11th
    2014: 4th
    2015: 2nd
    2016: 2nd

    ANd there you have it - so yes TLD just gets better and better -{
