Saw this article today. I can say I haven't watched any of his movies. But his quote is promising.

I think Bond directors should stay British. The Bond films that weren't directed by British directors are towards the bottom of my list. The quote there also doesn't go well for me: "I’m not someone that loves dialogue – I am someone that loves movement." Sounds like GoldenEye, which really could have used a little dialogue to make it seem more human.

Funnily enough I agree, Bond is essentially a British icon and
needs a British director to get the brst out of the character. I'm
not saying other directors couldn't do it, just it would be easier
for a home grown one. :)

Have to disagree slightly, not really a fan of any of the Craig films but out of the 3 QOS is the one I would watch again( goes against the grain as most Craig fans dislike this one) and that was directed by Marc Forster who's German/Swiss!

I've just noticed my list of top 5 Bond films all have British directors.

I think Mendes did the best job directing the Daniel Craig films, and he's the only British director Craig has had. The story in Skyfall has problems, but I think Mendes executed it well. My biggest problem with QoS is the director. Forster tried way too hard to compensate for his inexperience in directing action films.

And my list has all the Bond films directed by non-British directors at the bottom: Martin Campbell, Lee Tamahori and Marc Forster. Roger Spottiswoode's film is just above those, and he was born in Canada but was raised in Britain.

they should try directors that haven't been there before like Matthew Vaugn (love Kingsman) or Chris Nolan (although I'm a bit sceptical that it then might turn into an epic like TDKR)

Nolan is out of the question- he's too big for Eon's net.

Casino Royale was directed by Martin Campbell, who, like me, is from New Zealand.

Go back to your Downton Abbey :) (Well, its now in the 20's that show, so maybe not)
To me, I don't mind too much what the nationality of the director is. They just need to be Bond fans with a clear vision and great film makers. I'd be keen for Matthew Vaughan to have a go and maybe a one off Nolan film. The Coen Brothers would do an interesting Bond film. :)
Not so sure about Guy Ritchie to be honest now after man from UNCLE.
Ridley Scott however, would be interesting. Oh and I'm still holding out for a Speilberg Bond.

Exactly. And I feel like Kingsman completes his CV.

I think that's true...in fact, I was surprised that Craig was able to woo Mendes for a Bond---and even more surprised when he agreed to direct yet another, back to back.

I agree Nolan is a huge director, but he is a big Bind fan too. Although
sadly, he would overshadow any Bond film he was involved with. It
would stop being a Bond film and become another Chris Nolan project.

I think Nolan would do one...the problem is is that he would want total control - probably want to write it as well...and THAT may be too much for Eon...

    Although I'd be immensely happy if it happened -{

Eon could of course look to upcoming tv directors ?

Nolan's films are too 'cold' with overly complicated plots and exposition and Nolan can't direct action sequences.

On the plus side, he shoots 35mm with anamorphic lenses.

I love his work with the i-max camera system and would love to see
Some sequences in a Bond use these, as they really do add an
    Impressive aspect to the visuals.

Nolan would probably raise the IQ of the Bond series by a few points.

And he'd probably do it. The lead directors of Inception even admitted they cribbed the third act from OHMSS.

Nolan's films ... with overly complicated plots

This could benefit the Bond series. I think the franchise had kind of gotten lazy in adherence to a strict formula. Im not saying Bond needs to be like Memento, but some intellectual sustenance, some surprises, some twists and some creative deviances are necessary for movies.

Yeah I'd like a movie that makes you think a little bit more.
