This thread replaces the ill-fated "News- No Rumours" one, which will now be deleted.

It is intended for only news and information cited from official sources or industry sources. It is NOT for discussing unsourced rumours.

    What is considered "official sources"?
  • 005005 Posts: 138MI6 Agent
Great idea. Can't wait to see confirmed facts for this film :)

If you would not be willing to send Barbel $20 if something you post turns out to be false, err on the side of caution and put it in the rumor thread. It will still end up posted to the forum.

If we had put that rule in place a year ago Barbel would be retired in Jamaica.

I'm not getting roped into this.

I would imagine that Official Sources would be deemed as announcements from EON, Universal, United Artists Presenting, 007.com, or a member of the crew. I would also imagine that this thread would see "action" very infrequently. When filming commences on set or locations, photos and information that has a visual evidence would be considered newsworthy and factual.

I would also add that articles/reports attributing direct statements to EON, cast, crew, etc. are fair game for this thread. Anything citing unnamed “sources” belongs elsewhere.

I would think official goverenment sources would work. When the Norwegian film Institute granted Bond25 47 million Kroner would be OK in a thread like this one. Or?

Interesting Avatar picture 005. I remember that show "Tales of the Gold Monkey", which was heavily influenced by "Raiders of the Lost Ark". But now knowing that the actor, Stephen Collins was at that time exposing himself to young girls (by his own admission) it seems like a poor choice of a profile picture.

I think it will be sad if we spend the first 15 posts of this thread trying to figure out what IS or ISNT "fit" for this thread....but I would caution on the "government sources" unless they are truly coming from the source...many news papers and trades like to SAY something has happened and report rumor as if it was fact....can we maybe err on the side of basics at first?

    David Arnold has tweeted the following;

"Eon will make a decision at some point and announce when they’re ready . No news this end"

A bit disappointing. Maybe Fukunaga has very particular ideas about the music for his film and is going to go with someone else. If I was DC I'd be arguing for DA to bring some Casino Royale vibes to his 'last' film.

Curious to see if there’s any change in the shooting schedule...

The story about the delayed shooting starts was probably true then, even though it's strange this Instagram post didn't mention it.

This is not a "Probably Factual News" thread though so please try and avoid assumptions, speculation etc—as well as general discussions—on here, that's why we have the other thread as well.

    Also, that’s a Wednesday...

Spectre was released on a Monday.

This Wednesday release date for Bond 25 likely means a US release date of 10 or 17 April.

That brings up an interesting question - when the Feb 14th date was announced it was a worldwide date (see link below), so is April 8th also worldwide or U.K. only?

It's seven weeks. They simply found a more strategic week to open. This announcement came immediately on the heels of the next Fast & Furious (a Universal property) vacating that date.

I think this must, in part, confirm the 6 April shooting start comment by Sandgren to @colliderfrosty.

I thought they would always announce the US release date and simply add that the UK release date was earlier.

But, the Spectre announcement in July 2013 gave both US and UK dates.
    https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/sam-mendes-returning-direct-24th-583864

Interestingly, the Skyfall announcement in January 2011, gave a "worldwide" release date of 9 November 2012, which was the US date.
    https://geektyrant.com/news/2011/1/11/23rd-james-bond-film-officially-announced.html

For Quantum, there was a September 2006 Hollywod Reporter story giving 7 November as the release date. That would have been the US date.
    https://www.mi6-hq.com/sections/articles/bond_22_delayed.php3

So, I'd say, the release date is typically the US date and you need to subtract a week or more for the UK date.

Variety points out that the move was announced minutes after Universal (which is distributing in U.S.) announced that the new Fast and Furious movie was moving from April to May, so this looks like a business decision on Universal’s part to take that pre-summer slot vacated by FatF rather than any kind of delay on the part of Bond 25...

Some more clarity on the situation from Deadline:
    https://deadline.com/2019/02/bond-25-moves-back-two-months-in-2020-1202558710/

Essentially, Easter weekend will be a crowded one in China, which is another reason why F&F 9 pulled out of that frame. Middle Kingdom is the bread and butter for the Fast & Furious franchise. Bond 25 leaves behind what was a very crowded Valentine’s Day weekend next year with an untitled Disney live action movie, Fox’s Nimona, and Universal’s Will Packer untitled romance production.

Yes, now that the dust has settled it really looks like a move unrelated to any kind of problem that necessitated a delay. I personally hated the Valentines date so I’m fine with it. Moving on...

Sounds truly like a business decision. IMO, The Fast and the Furious" people have done Bond a favour. It's probably better for the US box office as the weather in mid February in the mid to northern parts of the US can be pretty brutal with snow and ice and keep people home. An early April release these days could be perfect:
    - the week of the Easter holiday, lot's of students on break from school and many folks off from work
    - relatively warm weather (more rain, which is good for movie attendance)
    - doesn't have to compete with the summer blockbusters and Bond 25 with probably get a lot of press as "the first big blockbuster of
the big movie season" and how that "summer" blockbuster season has been pushed up to April from May because of Bond
    - Bond 25 can hang around through the spring and summer at the multiplexes
    - Bond 25 can still have a home video release for the XMAS holiday.
    - Not sure about this one (please correct me if I'm wrong) if the start of filming is moved to early April, it gives Mr. Craig another
month to get into Bond shape (again I might be wrong about that).

I also apologize if my comments don't belong in this thread and are more appropriate to the "Craig is Back" thread.

...add to that list the fact that the 2020 Final Four is being played April 4-6. Every young male in America will be watching TV for those days. I guarantee you Bond 25 will be all over the place.
