Lazenby: OHMSS (obviously)
Moore: FYEO
Dalton: LTK
Brosnan: TWINE
Craig: SF
The most difficult choices were Dalton because I rate both pictures highly and Brosnan because I rate all pictures fairly low. I also find it rather difficult to rate the Craig ones had SP hasn't quite surpassed SF yet.

To coincide with the Ranking the Moore films thread I thought I would make a Connery one, ranking his 6 official Movies.
I just want to say this, I'm not the biggest Connery fan, I find him a bit overrated, but I do enjoy his movies a lot and I respect him for what he did to the franchise.

6. Diamonds Are Forever-
Now, it is not Connery's fault that I have trouble watching this movie, it is the plot. It is sleep-inducing, Charles Gray's Blofeld is awful, I keep on thinking he's about to say, "Just a jump to the left...!" The ending is a let down and the action scenes are dire except for the brief one in the elevator which I thought was quite well done. Not even the gorgeous Jill St John or the brilliant Barry score can save this film.
4.9/10

5. Goldfinger-
This movie, this low! Lower your crossbows. I've already expressed my opinion of this film in the Moore thread. I feel like it is super overrated. Pussy Galore seems non-attractive, the special effects seem worse then a home movie, the whole faking a gas attack scene and Pussy's flying circus is ridiclous, but much like in a Moore film, but it is played seriously which just makes it worse. I don't see what's great about the villain either, he doesn't do anything really ruthless. You don't see him paint the girl gold, he seems fat and pathetic. But I must admit, Connery's performance is fine here, even though his Bond seems to suck balls in this film, he gets captured half way thorugh the film and stays captured till the end! But the DB5 is my favourite Bond car and I love the Title song.
5.9/10

4. You Only LIve Twice-
Okay, just okay. The plot works, even though it is ridiclous, just have to accept it, that is what I feel. Connery is fine in the role, but the Japanese bit was weird! Blofeld was awesome and I loved how they handled the whole Bond dying at the start sequence.i
The girls are pretty cool, nice to see some Japanese woman for a change, very beautiful and the scenery is top-notch. Love the little-Nellie scene and the score has a nice airy, melody feel to it.
6.6/10

3. Thunderball-
I never really understood this movie. I use to not really like it. I found the action scenes in the water dull, the tension of the nuclear bomb threat almost nil and the plot confusing. But, I love the gadgets, the characters, the Bond girls ( :x :x hot :x :x ) the shark attack and the villain is interesting.
It holds itself up well as a piece of the 60's and the score and title song is perfect.
7/10

2. Dr. No-
Yes, the novel, DR No is my favourite Fleming novel, I love the action and suspense and the characters. The film adaption isn't perfect, but It is good. The songs, Underneath the mango tree, the Bond theme etc. are awesome and the characters come up from the novel. It drags a teeny weenie bit in the 1st quarter of the film but it picks up. Honey Rider is great and all.
7.9/10

1- From Russia with love-Love it. Yes, I like the Moore movies but this film is awesome. The Bond girl reeks with beauty and hotness (no Nude scene X-( ) the villains plot is credible, interesting and what brings the movie along. Bond is great in this and Red Grant is a terrfic villain played really well. It is a little dark, but most enjoyable and it does feel straight out of the Cold War era. I like how they show Instanbul, love the Orient Express scenes, the ending etc. The score by Barry has a real nice, spy feel to it and the song by Matt Monroe is a piece of history preserved.
8.7/10

On a rundown street in a remote town sat a nondescript establishment called Motto’s Pub. The proprietor Steven Forstbollard was doing well. He had a loyal cadre of locals drinking his beer, and he supplemented the pub with a downstairs area he named Tops To Bum, which specialized in burlesque – specifically, drag shows in which each male performer assumed a specific female persona. Steven’s old pal Bob Lasker, one-time performer himself, ran things down there.

Unfortunately, Bob was somewhat scatterbrained. One day, he managed to lose the entire performance schedule. He had list of the male performers’ names, but not their female personas nor the order in which they were to take the stage. The male performers were:

Mayo Asavana[/*]

Martin Asford[/*]

Scotty Austen[/*]

Grant Bhadel[/*]

Simon Callemet[/*]

Brant Cody[/*]

Vern Spydel[/*]

Eric Varspar[/*]

Antonio Vatarama[/*]

Michael von Lake[/*]
In a panic, Bob appealed to Steven for help. Steven looked over the list and smiled. “No worries, Bob. Everything you need is right here – the female personas, and the order in which they go onstage.”

How was Steven able to figure this out?

If this topic takes off, I might start one for the other actors in the near future (but combine Lazenby with Dalton for obvious reasons).

So, how would you rank order the main bond girl of each of Moore's 7 films?

Here's mine:

1 - Solitaire (LALD)
I think she's an excellent bond girl, and has always been my second favourite ever after Honey Rider. I don't mind the tarot card story, and thought Solitaire was not only gorgeous but pretty well acted too.

2 - Melina Havelock (FYEO)
Besides the ridiculous close up shot of her face with the greek music when she whitnesses her parent's death, I thought she was a pretty solid bond girl. Assertive, good looking, and has a real motive.

3 - Octopussy (OP)
She's not exactly a favourite, but she's ok and plays a significant role.

4 - Anya Amasova (TSWLM)
I assume many people will rank her higher. I honestly can't see why. On the plus side she's an ok bond girl who is assertive, plays a key role, competitive with bond and so on. But I didn't like her wooden acting. She seemed emotionless. I know spies are often like that, but to me it seemed more of a case of bad acting - sorry barbara fans!

5 - Mary Goodnight (TMWTGG)
She was obviously a poor bond girl, but I'm ranking her here for comedy reasons.

6 - Stacey Sutton (AVTAK)
Ok, she is not very good. As a huge AVTAK fan, I have never denied what people say about stacey. But you know what, I still didn't think she was THAT bad. Not bad enough to spoil the film for me by any means. A poor bond girl, but I do think there's worse.

7 - Holly Goodhead (MR)
She had potential. But her pathetic wooden acting just spoils any potential she had. I'm surprised that she doesn't get more hate. The woman can't bloody act. Either that or she was underacting on purpose. "Hang on James"...

Here's something different. Thought I'd analyse all of the rankings from members from the ULTIMATE ranking thread (http://www.ajb007.co.uk/topic/22305/the-ultimate-bond-ranking-your-120/) from the release of Spectre until the last ranking on the 10th of February 2017.

This way we can see which film is the indisputable #1 film for November 2015 to February 2017 rankings. Of course, this only applies to those who rank! In total there are 47 rankings collected from 32 members.

47 rankings were collected

The film with the best average ranking is FRWL. FRWL's most often ranking was 4.

The film with the worst average ranking is DAD. DAD's most often ranking was 24.

What's interesting is that every single Bond film featured in the top 10 at least once. Apart from DAD, every film featured in the top five at least once.

The most consistently highest ranked film was CR.

The most consistently lowest ranked films were QoS, DAF and DAD all consistently receiving a 24.

The only film that didn't feature outside the top twenty was TSWLM.

Depsite being the 3rd ranked film overall, Goldfinger was never selected as anyone's #1 film.

The Bonds

Remembering the range is 7.97 to 20.73

Lazenby - combined average 8.10 - best film OHMSS
Dalton - 9.79 - TLD
Craig - 12.08 - CR
Connery - 12.36 - FRWL
Moore - 13.18 - TSWLM
Brosnan - 15.12 - GE

George Lazenby has clearly benefited from having a single popular film, but Dalton rocks in with his two films being the 2nd highest averagely ranked. The lowest ranked films feature Brosnan.

My rules for these rankings

Only unique rankings from the same member were counted in the entire period. For example if their favourite film was GF through 3 rank postings only their 1st ranking for GF would count - if they changed their #2 ranked film in each of their subsequent rankings, these changes would be included.

NSNA, CR67 was not included as very few members had ranked them. If they did rank them, the films below these moved up one place - these films tended to be in the bottom four.

Personal observations

Spectre started well, but very quickly dropped off - especially halfway through the 2016. I wasn't surprised that OHMSS, GF appeared near the top - but FRWL was an unexpected winner. I was really surprised to see how well TLD performed - when I believed that LTK might out perform it.

As a Roger fan I was very happy to see two of his films appear within the top 10 rankings. I started doing this because I wondered if TSWLM had a consistently high-rank amongst fans. I was proven wrong - although found that the film had the best average lowest rank.

Connery really didn't have a good run following GF.
Moore - despite the dislike for him - has a pretty good spread of films across the board. MR had a decent most often rank of 11. The only thing going against him is that he didn't have a top-5 stand-out film like Connery.
QoS' poor positioning was a bit of a shock - quite crazy considering how well his three other films sit with fans.

--

I'll do this again at the end of the year to collate the 2017 rankings. So get ranking so I've got plenty of data to work with!! I did do a raw ranking (duplicates un-removed) of 2015 pre-Spectre and OHMSS was the #1 film.

Enjoy -{

You are offered an all-expenses paid, world class tour to visit all the locations - both real and fictitious (e.g. underground lair or w/e) from a JB film. Everything is taken care of, you will be treated like royalty.

The tour lasts for 2 months, with locations sensibly spread across that time (roughly equally). You can take a +1 with you if you'd like.

THREE QUESTIONS

1. Which ONE film would you choose?

2. Which film would you choose if you could also meet the characters relevant to each location? They exist as they did in the movie, but they are all nice and friendly - may even give you gifts, so villains won't be a problem.

3. Which film would you choose if it also allowed you to TIME TRAVEL back to the relevant year that the film happened to take your holiday? It's still a regular tour as above. Once its over, you return to the present time - nothing you do will affect the space time continuum.

Choose!

Space perhaps?

Simple rules: Create an anagram of a Bond title, character, actor, actress, crew member or whatever. First one to guess correctly gets to post the next anagram.

Maybe best to state if it's a movie, character or whatever when you post the question. No need to wait for confirmation as it should be obvious if you have it right so carry on and post your anagram.

So the first one is a movie: No Social Year

Only Timothy Dalton & Pierce Brosnan - Had their 'own' unique moneypenny.

Only Timothy Dalton & George Lazenby - Played Bond in just one particular decade.

Both Connery and Moore were up for the Part of Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing.
Only when Patrick Swayze Challanged them to a Dance off, did they Back down.

In 1978 Moore threatened to leave the series if his Belief in UFOs was not shown
on screen hence Moonraker being rushed after TSWLM.

Dalton was a Big fan of Bare knuckle fighting and had several trained Monkeys
fight for his entertainmant.

If you rearange the letters fron TMWTGG it spells out, Satan is a nice bloke.

Following a heated argument D Craig threw a Tank of Oil over Gemma Arterton, as the
film was behind schedule it was worked in to the plot.

The invisible car often broke down and wouldn't work. Leaving the actors to have to
pretend it was there.

DAD, was nominater for Best film in 2002.

During the filming of OP, Moore dressed as a clown did indeed perform in a local Circus
showing his skill at juggling, magic tricks and Pie throwing. Sadly his fear of sawdust
stopped him from taking the gig fulltime.
