What to i do to format my text in my posts and make it bold,italics,underline,etc?

I've tried using [b][/b], but it shows up when i click post and it doesn't change the text at all.

Currently I have it set in my Notification Preferences to send me an email whenever someone comments on a discussion I've participated in. However, I notice that it sends me an email every time a new poster responds, even if I haven't visited the thread yet since the first new response. As in, if three people respond in short succession, then it sends me three separate emails.

Is there any way to change it so that it'll only send me one notification at a time, and then I won't get any more until I visit the thread again?

Normally I use Brave browser but I tried it in Firefox too as I also have that installed and it still didn't work.

Any idea what's going on?

However welcome to the new forum software, this is a MAJOR update and replaces everything the site ran on before.

For this reason, the initial iteration is not complete, there is a lot I don't like and I am continuing to work on fixing the issues. Please post questions or issues here and I will try to address all of them.

However, there are a lot of new features and you should have all your Private Messages! I will address all this in a future update but the highlights are:

• New Editor (Ignore the grey font for the moment I've only just noticed that!)
  • I have just realised how to use it! If you want to format either highlight the text you want to change and a little popup appears with otpions. Or highlight a chunk and click the little mark in the left hand side. This then gives you full editing options such as lists.
• You can embed Youtube etc. much easier
• You can subscribe to lots of different things.
• You can unsubscribe to lots of different things!
• You can set your home page to either categories (forums) or the recent discussions view.
• It's also mobile friendly at last!

Things I don't like:

• Editor font colour.
• Default avatars. - I will work on restoring your old ones, however, if you have the original please upload it again as this software uses bigger avatars by default so the old ones won't be as clear when used in their larger size. I am working on changing the default avatars to a more subdued set of images!
• The main categories (forums) layout is very crowded and unclear.
• Some of the code from the previous site doesn't currently work in posts.
• The general design needs a lot of work.
• There seem to be a lot of "edited November -1" showing up on posts - no idea?!!?!

They all seem to be starred and ticked so not sure where they’ve gone. Not getting the emails about them either. Any suggestions?

• Fixed quote colours (for the moment anyway)
• Added advanced search options (I believe the plugin needs a little updating as some features don't work)
• Added post number to each post which acts as a permalink to that post (I will fix old post redirects next) - The post date is also a permalink to that exact post.
• Added users post counts to the user block on each post

I've been on Twitter for a year and it strikes me that if the same emoticons that were available to AJB only a few months ago were available on Twitter it would be a funnier, more forgiving place.

I am writing a comment, try to send it out and it doesn't appear.

I can go back with the browser and the message still shows it but it's not send off.

Happened today again and I see a tiny sign that says that my post "needs moderation"

What is going on here?

Edited: Happens when I am trying to add a preview link to another AJB topic

Previously my post count was at over 1,000, approximately 1,400.

Now it's showing as only 140.

As one of the exclusive AJB 2002 club, one of my life goals is to gain a promotion to Chief Of Staff before 2032, and I fear this error may diminish my prospects.

Has this happened to anyone else?

P.S. It's not a really big deal and thanks to SiCo for keeping AJB alive all these years.

In particular he enjoyed the member-written fiction (often saying he thought it better than some of the published works), unfortunately he can no longer see and is unable to read these for himself, so I would love to find to some to read to him.

Do they still exist and where might I find them? I've already demonstrated my lack of IT skills, so words of one syllable would certainly be appreciated.

They are designed to navigate anywhere from anywhere, however in my opinion it's a bit of a mess, I can either tidy it up or remove it. Your thoughts...

It is important to note that most of these features require you to be logged in, if you nip on the site without logging in the software has no idea you may have already viewed something.

Too Many New Discussion or Posts

This seems to be a side effect of migrating an old forum to the new software. Basically, the new software doesn't know what you have already rear or are interested in from the old forum. Therefore everything is new.

The first thing to do is read what you want to on this visit then click the 'Mark All Viewed' link in the top navigation bar. This should let the new forum know you've read everything even if you're not interested in it.

Newest Replies in Categories (Forums)

The old forum used to have a link next to discussions (topics) which would take you to the newest posts. In this software, the main discussion link does the same thing without the need for two links. If you are logged in and have viewed a discussion already (on the new forum, unfortunately, it doesn't know if you have viewed it on the old forum) clicking the link to view it again will take you to your first unread post.

The link has a special '#latest' tag on the end which causes the forum to hunt for the newest post since you last visited the discussion.

I am working on adding a link to the last page(s) alongside the discussion title as the old forum used to have the pages.

Newest Discussions

To keep on top of the newest discussion & replies across the whole forum the easiest way is the new 'Discussions' link in the top navigation. This shows you a list of all discussions (topics) with activity, whether it be a new discussion or a reply.

If your list is full of announcements please see the point above and 'Mark All Viewed'. There should only ever be one or two permanent announcements at the top of this list. You will see other announcements from the individual categories (forums) as and when they have new content.

On the right-hand menu, you have links that are more personal to you, including the 'My Discussions' link, this shows you your discussions (posts), again in date order of the last reply.

Following Categories (Forums) You Are Interested In

There is an option for you to follow individual categories (forums) and only see posts from these categories. Please note that this may limit what you see, however it does not stop you from browsing the forum in a more traditional fashion.

Firstly you must follow the categories you are interested in, go into the individual categories and at the top next to the category title is a 'Follow' link. Click this and you will be 'subscribed' to the forum.

How to View Your Followed Categories

To view only the content you are following you can either filter the main list of categories (forums) on the home page, or filter the discussion on the 'Recent Discussions' page.

At the top under the title is a drop-down box with options for 'All' or 'Following', select 'Following' and you will only see new content in the categories you have subscribed to.

This option will be remembered every time you visit as long as you are logged in.

I can change this, however in my opinion you shouldn't be editing a post you should be adding to the topic. However, I gather some users are using it to keep detailed lists and information, which I do agree it is useful to edit the post.

The other option is I can create a new group of users with permission to always edit. I am a little loathed to allow everyone to edit as I can see posts being wiped or changed. Obviously though this is how it was and I am happy to change it back.
