I'd like to thank everyone who fought to defend their own country when it was attacked, or fought for freedom anywhere. There are soldiers I see no reason to thank, such as Russian soldiers in Ukraine.

RIP Anthony Head. He was only 72.

I first saw him in those commercials for instant coffee and later in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Sad to hear of the death of Anthony Head. I know him best as the Prime Minister from Little Britain.

    Rest in Peace David Hockney.

    An iconic artist.

RIP David Hockney. Never a favourite artist of mine, however you can't fault his drive and zest.

The following quote is well worth considering:

"I'm 82. I'm going to die. We die because we are born. The only things that matter in life are food and love, in that order... I truly believe this, and for me, the basis of art is love. I love life."

    Beautiful quote.

Mr. Hockney also wrote an excellent book on the secret painting techniques of the old masters.

According to Hockney, some of the great portrait and landscape artists of yesteryears used optical devices like the camera lucida and the camera obscura to get that pixel perfect look.

Here is the documentary, based on the book.

Tim Jenison, a graphic artist, later recreated a Vermeer painting using the techniques Hockney highlighted.

I'm sad to hear of the death of the legendary Roger Cook, he of The Cook Report fame. He was 83. That man had a lot of guts and always stood up for what was right. An exponent of proper investigative journalism.
