Bardem portrayed one of the all time great movie villains in "No Country For Old Men". He's a great actor who has demonstrated that he can do both charming and menacing. If this is true it shows that EON is really serious about making a great Bond film. With Bardem as the villain we could finally be getting a truly worthy adversary for Bond.

He looks like he could beat up Bond and he's a great actor. My only fear is that his Bond villan (if this is true ..) will be just a pale imitation of Chigru.

If I agree with Blueman the earth may stop rotating, but I agree Bardem would make a great villian.

Not that this is saying anything new - but it's being reported in the Mirror too....

    here

I think this would be an excellent choice - not too well known, yet has the gravitas and acting ability - plus after his Oscar nomination gives him some publicity.

But, does this now mean that Penelope Cruz will be a bond girl :)) :))

Hello and Welcome to the best Bond forum in the world (that I have found). Hope you enjoy your time with us.

I think Javier Bardem would make a great Bond villain. He certainly has the animal magnetism necessary for the role and his physicality would give him a menace that Mathieu Amalric (Almaric?) lacked.
    What do you think? {[]

MI6 has a link to a brief interview with him, says he met with Mendes and is excited, but wants to read the script before committing. And it is the villain he's been offered.

If Bardem reads the script that might kill the deal! ;)

I watched No Country last night.

He reminds me a bit of George Clooney in looks, without the bowl cut it would be more pronounced. Not sure if he's a one-trick pony or what else he's been in. Obviously the surprise element of No Country is gone, and anyhow if he's given a script like that last one (or even the one before imo) it wouldn't matter how good he is anyway. :(

I see Craig as a Bogart type and could do with a suave Sydney Greenstreet adversary, er , a bit like Le Chiffre in the Casino Royale novel. X-(

He's a genuine actor -- his performance in "The Dancer Upstairs," made years before "No Country for Old Men," shows that he can easily perform as a sympathetic lead -- so as long as the writers and producers give him something meaningful to do and say, he should be a great asset to the film.

Here are some casting suggestions for villans from Total Film. Some ideas are bad, a few are horrible, but many of them are quite good:

Well he was in 'Eat, Pray, Love' with Julia Roberts, and he has also got an oscar nomination for 'Biutiful' - amongst other numerous nominations for his roles.

And I think he has more of a Robert Downey Jr look to him, that Clooney ;)

Not to bad of a list. Number 16's plot sounds to close to the plot of Lethal Weapon 2. I do like Frank Langella as a possible villain.

Javier is a really cool actor. And can play a villain very well. Heres hoping he gets a part. I reckon he could win vs. Daniel too!

As much as I appreciate Bardem's acting, isn't he a bit too hot and happening right now to be in Bond 23 ? It somehow doesn't feel right for me, and would Bardem accept a stereotype part such as a Bond villain ? The other option mentioned, Ralph Fiennes, strikes me as more logical. Fiennes has been out of the frame for a while and would make a pleasant 'surprise.'

Ralph Fiennes would be great as a villain.

I always thought George Sanders would have made a great Bond villain...that guy had class.

Has Bond ever been to Mexico? I'm racking my brain right now and I can't remember. Javier Bardem as a Mexican government agent would be interesting, that way you don't get into the type-casting.

I've been reading in a few forums that it seems Javier Bardem has jumped ship as Bond now Clashes with other Commitments. Sad If True, I think He'd of been a great Villain.
Then again it frees up the part for Charlie Sheen :))

I can't wait to find out if Javier Bardem will accept his role in Bond 23. I believe he will have plenty of time to do Bond 23 and will be able to do The Dark Tower later in 2012. However, may I say, it is not official yet if he will do The Dark Tower either.
I agree, Javier Bardem would be fantastic and would be a box office draw. :007)
  • bluemanblueman PDXPosts: 1,667MI6 Agent
Bardem just signed on to The Dark Tower, shooting starts in September. All but rules him out IMO. :(

I agree Blueman, Bardem has just too much on at the Moment, sad I think he would of been great. Well mabey next time. :(

Let me offer some sunlight on this situation. If Javier Bardem does do Stephen King's The Dark Tower and starts filming in September 2011, perhaps he will still be able to do Bond 23 in early 2012 assuming Bond 23 has a six-months shooting schedule like Quantum of Solace (2008) did.
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
Mabey he will be in Bond 23, Like a kind of "Where's Wally " in the background of some scene or other like M G Wilson :))

Why would anyone turn down a role in a James Bond movie. It's guaranteed exposure for 50 years. Everyone loves a good James Bond movie, even agents and directors. Just look at Gemma Arterton. Quantum of Solace (2008) has springboard her career. She is going to be doing the "Clash of the Titans" sequel, Wrath of the Titans.
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
I don't think it's a case of turning down a role in a Bond as from what I've read Bardem is a Bond fan and would love to do one, But other commitments might be stopping him from doing it.

The Dark Tower is being put on hold, maybe Bardem jumps ships?
