I suggest that Daniel Craig had his tongue in cheek. Why would he sign a deal for two more films if he wanted to get out? Not so long ago he stated in an interview with the BBC that he would stay on as long as he was invited. I believe that to be the truth.

As for Javier Bardem being offered the role of Bond? I am sure there was a misunderstanding and Bardem was very likely referring to the role of a Bond villain.

I think this has been taken completley out of context.... in another report it states "Craig joked to Rolling Stone, “I’ve been trying to get out of this from the very moment I got into it. They won’t let me go, and I’ve agreed to do a couple more, but let’s see how this one does, because business is business and if the sh** goes down, I’ve got a contract that somebody will happily wipe their ass with.”

The word joked has suddenly been removed.... interesting how journalists do that....

He's not that stupid, and he's always stated that he will carry on doing Bond until he falls apart. Although I do think that QoS may have knocked his confidence.... Skyfall will only booster it again.

But he does also LOVE to wind up the press! :007)

I often Pointed out the similarities between Daniel Craig and Roger Moore.
This is a case in point. DC will do Bond for Many, Many More years as his
Other movies Don't set the world on Fire. So he Needs Bond to keep him
in the running for other Movies.
So we'll be if for an Aging Bond Just like Sir Roger. :p
After all he's now playing an Old Bond, ( after One mission, QOS was 45 min after CR)
so he's unlikley to get Younger for the Next One. :))

Much as I feel that he is miscast, and despite that does a stunning job, I feel that he is a person of integrity and a seriousness about his craft. Roger never took himself seriously and I think this makes a difference. I don't get the sense from DC that he is that bothered about being a movie star. Indeed we may have seen the last of actors who are major sure-fire copper bottomed box office magnets and whose very casting guarantees the numbers. DC is smart enough to know this. He's made a ton of cash, his legacy value as Bond will keep him in work for as long as he wants it. I think he is most likely to prefer smaller low budget borderline art house and theatre projects.

I watched this interview when it aired. He definitely was joking. He was happy and responded positively to the crowd's enthusiasm about the two more in the contract.

I didn't for one second think he wanted out now based on his tone and the rest of the things he was saying in the interview.
