Would it be possible to remove all old and unused topics from the 'off topics' section? This is a big area of AJB and must use a lot of resources?

I mentioned before I think about 'for sale' topics. This too must use a lot of space for things that have been sold a long time ago?

That's a good idea, though I'd not want to remove all the old topics. I'll do some trimming.

Not sure about the "For Sale" topics- I think Sir Miles would know better there, since there may be some issues.

Probably a lot of the older sale posts could go…although I’d be loath to remove them all…

I’m still getting the internal server error in the quote conversation thread but some of the other threads are ok.

Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

Site was down for me earlier today.

I’ve been on three times today without issues…but that still leaves plenty of time in between 🤔

Yes, same here. It was down for a while in the afternoon. Good to see AJB back up and running again.

Do either of you have a rough (or exact 🤣) time of when the site went down and then worked again?

Luckily I took this screenshot yesterday when the site was down and my phone recorded the time as 14.33 GMT on Wednesday 28 February 2024:

I think it was down from at least that time until later on in the evening.

Thanks…I’m usually on around that time…but yesterday I wasn’t….I would have been on an hour earlier…then much later than usual…

That should help to set the time of the outage then. I can't recall the exact time I noticed AJB was back up again but it was significantly later.

...and we're back after that latest outage. All thanks to SiCo for the return. No, I don't as yet know what went wrong but as soon I do I'll post it here unless he does first.

Thanks, @Barbel. It's good to see AJB back in action again. It was missed. Thanks also to @SiCo for all of his hard work behind the scenes keeping the site going. 🙂

The problem is the file uploads again and the way the forum software doesn't reduce any file sizes or shrink images. We've just maxed out our space so I am deleting some files. It seems we get about a year of uploads, in total amounting to 25gb!

    Many thanks @SiCo Much appreciated🍸️

The annual February outage! 😁 Thanks for your hard work as ever SiCo.

I guess that photos taken on phones are pretty big files nowadays: I try to use imagehosting sites to link to if I put images on here and will reduce them in size to a few KB anyway first.

  • SiCoSiCo EnglandPosts: 1,375M

I have created a script this afternoon which I will implement to run regularly to compress and resize all the images. It can be tweaked after this initial run if it isn't to peoples liking.

Unfortunately without a lot of work I can't hook directly into the forums upload as it's a bit of a black box so this is a good compromise.

not all heroes wear capes. many thanks, @SiCo !

  • SiCoSiCo EnglandPosts: 1,375M

I've now ran the script and taken our 26gb down to 5gb so that's a bonus!

I’m always amazed at how AJB keeps running, it’s been bashed from pillar to post…but I guess it shows just how popular AJB is 😁

Sterling work as usual, boss 😅

I blame SiCo turning the site back on for today's shocking news 😄

  • Silhouette ManSilhouette Man The last refuge of a scoundrelPosts: 9,329MI6 Agent

There has been the odd on and off outage today. I thought maybe @SiCo was working on the site but it must be something else. Perhaps the news about Amazon has crashed the site with all of the members coming out of the woodwork to comment? 😀

I’ve not had that today…but some pages are slow to load up…due to the increased traffic I guess..

It just went down again for me there. Not sure if any other members are experiencing that?

The site was down this evening as I’m trialling a new service and it had a setting I wasn’t aware of and made the site inaccessible for an hour. Sorry about that. As for other downtime I haven’t seen any alerts today.

The new service adds a layer of security to the site to hopefully combat some bots and help speed the site up.

I don’t know how well it works but a lot of other sites you visit use it so it can’t hurt.

The only thing you might notice is that sometimes you might get asked if you’re human before entering the site. If anyone does see this please post so I can see if it’s too regular.

I’ve been asked this before…usually it automatically fills this in - you just check a box…haven’t had it here yet.
