I was going to start the next Universal Monsters story today - The Mummy - but the artwork is so poor, and the story so hackneyed, that I’ve decided to drop it from the schedule. To their credit, Image Comics have printed comments in the letters pages from readers stating this fact.
So, as a filler today, the 1956 Beano Book (Annual) way back in my birth year (even though it was published late in 1955 to catch the Christmas present market).
When The Bell Rings was later retitled to the well known strip, The Bash Street Kids…
A lot of the stories in those days ended up with a whacking!

Today’s annual is the first one from the Dr. Who franchise, surprisingly published a year before the actual first Dr. Who annual. The Dalek Book was published one year after the launch of the television series and was a major best seller in the 1964 Christmas present market. Two more followed in ‘65 and ‘66 ( albeit under different titles) until it had a hiatus until 1976 when it began a four year run until 1979.

Lady Penelope was aimed at the schoolgirl market, but boys loved it too with its range of Gerry Anderson strips, Man From UNCLE and a Lost In Space hybrid strip…

I loved the Beano as a kid, and I’d no idea The Bash Street Kids was was formerly titled something else 😱

I always thought that The Numskulls was a clever strip, and the best one that appeared in The Beezer.

I didn’t get the Christmas annuals of The Beezer - but quite often I’d get them in second hand stores 6 months later ☺️

I remember read Dalek stories in weekly comics (maybe TV21?) but not annuals.

The Daleks strip graced the back page of TV Century 21 for 104 issues.
I loved the Hartnell/Troughton era and the Eccleston/Tennant era, the rest not so much.
TheHotspur was one of the boys adventure comics of the ‘60’s and the here is a taste of the 1969 annual…Hotspur seemed dated to me even at the time, but not as dated as The Hornet. I didn't like either of them much.
Yes, I agree on that they were dated, they didn’t seem to step on from the ‘50’s in style. I kind of liked them, though.

I agree with you both, Rupert was not my thing. But Power Comic annuals were certainly up my street…
