A bold, innovative design released today from Steinhart. They must have been working on this design for years!
However, I am torn. Clearly, in my view, this ‘homage’ is pushing the boundaries of when an homage becomes a copy. However, Steinhart do make very good quality watches and at an affordable price. (€490) So this could become a usable tool watch. Plus which Rolex seem to be incapable of actually producing any watches you can actually buy and may be too expensive to wear as a daily tool watch, if you could get one.
I think this will sell out fast. Or it will be banned by Rolex….

Smiths do some lovely watches, although I much prefer the ones where they put the older logo on- it makes such a difference. They also never seem to actually sell them! 😊
So for the past 7 years I've been looking for the perfect Connery-style G10 nylon strap, as I love the cool and casual 60's look for my Explorer.
And from my experience I've determined that there simply is no "perfect" strap. These 3 are the ones I've narrowed down to as they are the most accurate, but none of em' matches the one we see on screen.
The one in the middle I bought from Ebay and was available for many years from a UK seller, but it seems to be discontinued.
It got the pattern down close enough as the red lines are really thin, the green stripes are also a bit to the sides and not "centred" as many of the modern nato's are. However the green is to much on the yellow side, and should be more olive, which unfortunately is it's weak point.
The one from top right corner to bottom left corner is quite good. The green is much brighter and is close to what we see in the moves, but the red lines are a bit thick and appear almost purple in direct light. Also the whole strap is way too shiny, it should be more flat. It's also black where the original one was in a dark navy blue.
The one from top left corner down to bottom right corner is from the Vintage-Bond collection by Geckota. I think this the best one when it comes to nailing the colors. The red is a rich red, the green is close as well and the strap's base is more of a dark gray, which gives a navy blue-like feel in the correct settings. However the downside is the patterns: The stripes are too close to the centre, and the red lines are way to thick.
So in my quest to find the strap my conclusion of course was to collect all three straps 😎
Yes, I know a Friday is not the appropriate day for this, but I recently got ahold of a Q2 after sitting on the fence for too long, and had to wear it today in the sun.
Have to say I like it better than the first edition, which was too monochrome for my taste. Really beautiful piece, IMHO.
"Enjoy it while it lasts."

It's lots of fun, shame it didn't appear in the film a bit more visibly.

New stainless steel version of Bonds titanium milanese bracelet is now widely available in three sizes. Although, make sure you get the spring bars to fit as they are slimmer than the ones that come as standard with the majority of other Omega bracelets. So your old ones won’t fit
Does anyone know what watch Bond is wearing in these Thunderball scenes? It's certainly not the Breitling Top Time. (Apologies if this has been discussed before).
Certainly looks like it could be a Rolex, an Explorer of sorts?
Did a bit of Googling and somebody in Watchuseek discussion as few years ago, suggested it might be this;
I also came across this site on my travels, which is very interesting (I'm sure some of you are already aware of it?);
But; Kudos for the bravery of bringing this up, nice pics and a good alternative for the one worn. Could be Connerys privately owned watch, we know that Roggie wore his Rollie Day Date in AVTAK castle scenes.

I’ve watched this over and over to try and get more detail on the watch he’s seen wearing. Even gone through promo pictures and press photographs of the time. There’s not one clear image of the dial to form a solid judgement on.
What I can tell is that it’s a 36mm Rolex Oyster case with a polished bezel on an Oyster bracelet. The dial is white or cream. And that’s about it.
And to bring the dress watch up again. (I’ve just read that old thread) I’m pretty much convinced it’s a Smiths model. Certainly wouldn’t be Gruen as they were and are a pretty much unknown brand in the U.K. Picking Gruen is so unlikely and so left field it’s akin to saying it’s a Vostok. The Gruen is a billion to one chance chosen by an American watch enthusiast just starting out who has no idea of the U.K. watch market, and went with what American watch would match without researching other more likely watch brands from the country were the Bond films were made. Smiths were very prolific here in the U.K. and that’s the kind of watches they made. Maybe it was a style choice, maybe it wasn’t. We will never know. But it stands as almost certainly being a Smiths DeLuxe or similar model.
My word! That was a lively discussion. Not sure how I missed that one first time round and apologies for opening up old wounds.
For what it's worth, I think it's a valid and interesting topic for friendly, respectful and polite discussion. Personally, I echo the thoughts and sentiment of yourself and @Matt S For me, seeing a watch on Bond's wrist on screen, makes it an unofficial Bond watch, whether it's a continuity error, the actor's own watch or lent to them by somebody. In any case, the watch in the above scenes looks like it could be a Rolex Oyster Perpetual, which is spot on Fleming Bond, whether intentional or not, I'll take serendipity.
Bond wearing a dress watch in the earlier films in the casino or driving through the Furka Pass, adds something very interesting, whether intentional or not. And why wouldn't Bond have two watches anyway? DC's Bond certainly has. Also, remembering it was and still can be considered a faux pax to where a sports watch or divers watch with evening dress. So, although I do prefer Bond wearing his Submariner or Seamaster with his dinner suit, having him wear something dressier or smarter, yet still functional, is probably more appropriate.
There was great interest in the Omega Chronograph at the end of Spectre, despite it just being seen for a split second. I can't remember if this was supplied by the prop department? Or was DC's own watch? If the latter? Does that mean it shouldn't be classed as a Bond watch, because for me it certainly is and fits well with Bond heading for retirement, driving off into the sunset.
Everyone is entitled to their own theories, beliefs and opinions and as long as that doesn't hurt anyone or cause offence, then why not.
Anyway, as I said, I have no wish to open old wounds and I apologise if my thoughts on Bond watches indirectly cause any offence and/or don't align with the vox populi.

@The Red Kind I find these watches interesting. It’s just that self proclaimed expert who got banned from everywhere caused so much vitriol and personal attacks outside the WWW that it got out of hand to the point where lawyers were involved to get his content about individuals deleted from the public domain.
Incidentally, the Omega chrono from SPECTRE was bought in by production. It wasn’t Craig’s own watch. It was part of, and in the prop bible which is something they use for on set continuity and scene management.

No worries! We are, after all, all in the same team. What ever old wounds I have, were not caused by forum banter.
It's just that, when the opportunity rose, I just could not help my self.... 😜

Yes I think the idea of Bond sticking to just one watch on a trip almost seems a strange one, considering how many changes of outfit he usually manages to bring with him! I'm all for him wearing a dress watch or similar, and I really like that potential Rolex from Thunderball there- as you say, it suits Bond (and looks great on Connery). The Aqua Terras of Craig kind of are closer to what Fleming had him wearing than the dive watches we've seen him in for years.
There are certain people on here who go for personal attacks on anyone outside their little clique rather than just wanting to discuss the subject civilly as seen in that car crash of a thread 0073 linked to (and the way some people were spoken to in it); they bring a horrible atmosphere and are best ignored.
Regarding the Dr No watch, as argued so nastily about in that thread(!), Connery seems to be wearing something similar in the famous photos of him being fitted for his suits at the tailors; whether it is the same watch or not, or whether that makes it more likely to be his own I don't know. He'd also made a couple of Hollywood movies by then so the idea of buying a watch in America isn't impossible, but there seemed to be so many little brands you could pick up in airports etc. at that time that identifying it would seem to be impressive, but there are certainly good guesses around.
That earlier thread's like the Wagatha Christie trial.
I have nothing to add to this mystery but I've always been interested in the little details like this so I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if anything new pops up.
After many years of regretting missing out on the limited edition SPECTRE Seamaster 300, I finally managed to get my hands on a mint condition one today, to fill the gap I had in my collection. So elated to finally have it and at last I can stop, as I promised myself no more Bond watches after Craig’s tenure came to a close. Now if only those three empty spaces would stop nagging at me... 😂
Thanks @The Red Kind - the collection has pride of place!
The one I wear most is unquestionably the QOS Planet Ocean. There’s just something so stylish and timeless about the proportions and feel of that particular watch that I love. It keeps me coming back again and again and for that reason it’s probably my favourite too. I adore the lollipop hand on the SPECTRE and it feels like a comfortable wear on the NATO as well, so I could see myself wearing it a lot in future. If I had to sell all but one of the Bond watches it would probably the SPECTRE, if for no other reason than the increasing price. I’ve been kicking myself for years for not buying it when it was released and certainly paid a premium to right the mistake!
Out of all the watches though, the one I would absolutely keep is the old Rolex. I almost never wear it and for all I know it might not even be genuine (I should probably try and learn more about it), but it belonged to my late father and his father before him, so it’s particularly sentimental to me. 🍸
Wow, that's a pretty stunning line-up! 😊 The Spectre used to be my fave, but when I see them next to each other I can totally agree about the PO, it's just lovely proportionally. Your AT looks extremely handsome there too, I love its slight chunkiness!
Thanks guys. @The Red Kind - I'm glad you mentioned the strap on the Rolex because I was never sure I’d done the right thing by putting that on it. I like it myself but constantly wonder if there’s something better for it!
@emtiem - I love the slight chunkiness of the AT too! I know a lot of people don’t, but it makes it feel more like somewhere between a sports watch and a dress watch and I love that about it.

Which is your favourite?
Which do you wear most?
Which would you keep if you had to sell all others?
Good luck in resisting the new Bond watch (whatever it is) when it appears on the wrist in Bond 26😁

Can't disagree with you on the QoS watch. I'm fortunate enough to own that one and adore it. It's perfection in my eyes.
Your Rolex is a beauty and looks great on the weave strap.👍️

Just picked this up. A great little watch from Zeno-Watch Basel. The Super Precision.
38mm, Swiss auto NOS movement from the 70s, and a really cool retro vintage feel about it.
An excellent alternative to the Smiths Everest or Tudor Ranger.
Love it.
Nice to get these back in collection.
Minters.
Happy Watch Porn Wednesday. 😊
