As much as Asp9mm doesn’t need anyone to back him up…he did mention a potential sell off back then…he told a few of us in person and then mentioned it on the boards here…we knew MGW had had a retirement party and that BB was looking to move on…Disney seemed the front runner back then.

Other actors screen tested?! For real or was that mind games to get Craig back? It's ten years ago now so God knows who they would have spoken to, I guess they'd all be in their 40s by now.

Well in their 40s sadly. Or moved on to other things. It wasn’t mind games. Mendes was involved too. Seems such a long time ago now. Everything changed so quickly. Good people were left in limbo. Then lost jobs.

I guess Danjaq selling to someone like Disney would have been slightly unappealing to them as they’d only be getting half a property. MGM would be the ones which made the most sense, but they were likely not in a position to buy until someone bought them.

Too bad the sell-off didn’t happen before NTTD, a garbage film with a garbage ending. We haven’t had a decent Bond film since Skyfall and we’ve basically lost an entire era of movies. And most of us won’t even recognize what comes next. Sad to think what might have been.

Steven Knight says in an interview he's having a fantastic time writing Bond26. "Obviously with Bond, what you're dealing with is now a character of folklore, really. It's like Robin Hood or King Arthur, in the context of the culture of this country and beyond. And so you've got to treat it with respect."

I think this looks promising. Like Amazon itself, Knight seems to take the job seriously.

I am excited by the idea of him doing Bond, certainly. After SAS Rogue Heroes, taking on Fleming makes a sort of sense.

He's not without a sense of humour in his stuff too, which I think is always important.

I wouldn't mind if Knight get Phoebe Waller-Bridge as a co-writer at some time, but I have high expectations for the script.

Yeah, I'm sure she could add some good stuff, but then he is an Oscar and Bafta-nominated film screenwriter, so no slouch! 😁

Yes, absolutely. But I do enjoy PWBs sharp humor and quirky characters, something I'm not convinced Knight can do that well.

New comments and video from Knight. Nothing groundbreaking but he confirms he is working on Bond.

“I can't really talk about what I'm doing with Bond but I'm enjoying every single second of it.

“There is something about the world that he created that is tangibly real, and yet it’s something that isn’t real. It's almost like dreamlike somehow. And I just love the style of how he writes, and the dialogue is so good. Which is what I’m always looking out for.

“I’ve got a very particular way I want this to go. I’m working with fantastic people, the best people, and people will have to wait and see.”

It looks like Knight has read Fleming. Not only that. Knight seems to apriciate and undetstand Fleming, and that's very promising to me.

This is actually a little worrying for me. Richard Maibaum understood he was adapting Fleming for a film and what he and Saltzman and Broccoli understood was you take the ideas and then create the film, and what people found appealing in the films is not necessarily to be found in the books. For all the criticism of them on this site, I think Purvis & Wade also understood this. If Knight and Denis Villeneuve are uber fans then we may get the most faithful Fleming like screenplay ever produced for a Bond film, but audiences have 60 years of experience and expectation and those expectations differ to what you would encounter with the books. I can imagine a film that is going to appeal to the purists on this site, and Villeneuve will no doubt craft something that the critics will see artistic merit in, but I can imagine the all important word of mouth from the general audience being underwhelming and ticket sales suffering as a result.

I doesn't really worry me. There is always a chance that a film will go unnamed-female-body-parts up, but we know both Knight and Villeneuve know how to make story entertaining on screen. I've read the first Dune novel, and in my opinion the movie is more entertaining while keeping the tone and main story of the novel.

You've got an accomplished director who knows his way around gritty brutal action, suspense, and stunning visuals but has excelled at both big spectacles along with moderate and smaller scale films. The writer has a great track record and the ability to create great pulp worlds (something Bond could use) and pulp characters. Now if they can just get the Bond casting right (weak looking, pasty faced, boyish toffs need not apply) maybe we get something special....please (we've waited too long and suffered too much).

Knight knowing Fleming doesn’t mean blind fealty to Fleming. It might mean Knight sees shades of Fleming the movies haven’t capitalized on. It’s a fine starting point. They say you’ve got to learn the rules in order to meaningfully break them.

The absolute last thing I’m concerned about is if Amazon has to deal with low ticket sales.
