Yes, annuals such as Beezer and Topper would continue for many years after the comics folded. Dandy Annual continues this year with a 2026 edition after publishing its last comic issue in 2012, but annuals are certainly a thing of the past, only Beano, Dandy, The Broons, Dr. Who and Rupert (celebrating its 90th edition, whether the strip is still published in Daily Express, I have no idea) have survived this year. Thomas the Tank Engine is the latest to fall by the wayside, no edition this year, breaking a 41 year run.

@Barbel There were 4 UNCLE annuals, 1967-1970, print runs were large so they can be sourced pretty easily, so prices are not huge - £10 each for fine condition would be a fair price, £30 each for near mint condition.
Dan Dare debuted in Eagle comic in 1950 and became one of the iconic British comic characters of all time. This Christmas themed story was in the 1955 Eagle annual. The halcyon days of the Eagle had long since gone by the time I first read the comic in the mid-60’s and I didn’t care for it much. Interesting to see how the artist perceived 1997 to be in 1955 though.

Smash #152 - The Christmas 1968 issue. These are some of comedic strips, the rest of the comic consisted of superhero reprints. As I’ve said before, Smash! was my favourite British comic.

A Christmas Carol is one of my favourite books. I read it every Christmas and enjoy a lot of the movie and television adaptations, even those that take certain liberties with the narrative. The George C Scott version is my favourite, followed by Alistair Sim. The recent BBC adaptation was an utter abomination, making ITV’s modern day Ross Kemp version look like Shakespeare at his best. But, in general, I prefer adaptations that follow closely to Dickens’s narrative. Which brings me to this comic strip adaptation, which whilst sticking to the narrative in general, also turns everything on its head, including gender. Trust in me, for those who keep with the daily updates until Christmas, will not only see some stunning artwork, but thought provoking twists and turns.
