I'd like to thank everyone who fought to defend their own country when it was attacked, or fought for freedom anywhere. There are soldiers I see no reason to thank, such as Russian soldiers in Ukraine.

RIP Anthony Head. He was only 72.

I first saw him in those commercials for instant coffee and later in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Sad to hear of the death of Anthony Head. I know him best as the Prime Minister from Little Britain.

    Rest in Peace David Hockney.

    An iconic artist.

RIP David Hockney. Never a favourite artist of mine, however you can't fault his drive and zest.

The following quote is well worth considering:

"I'm 82. I'm going to die. We die because we are born. The only things that matter in life are food and love, in that order... I truly believe this, and for me, the basis of art is love. I love life."

    Beautiful quote.

Mr. Hockney also wrote an excellent book on the secret painting techniques of the old masters.

According to Hockney, some of the great portrait and landscape artists of yesteryears used optical devices like the camera lucida and the camera obscura to get that pixel perfect look.

Here is the documentary, based on the book.

Tim Jenison, a graphic artist, later recreated a Vermeer painting using the techniques Hockney highlighted.

I'm sad to hear of the death of the legendary Roger Cook, he of The Cook Report fame. He was 83. That man had a lot of guts and always stood up for what was right. An exponent of proper investigative journalism.

I recognise this actor as Godber's nemesis from the last two episodes of the 1970s sitcom Porridge. You'll have seen him in something else perhaps - he's a regular.

David Daker has died aged 90.

Rest in peace Dame Penelope Keith.

Acting legend and national treasure, who brought happiness to millions.

I fondly remember watching her excellent docu-series on the hidden villages of UK.

    RIP.

I was sad to hear of Ann Widdecombe's death and then I was shocked to hear that she'd actually been murdered. She lived in such a remote and seemingly safe location but hopefully the culprit will be found and brought to justice. I watched the Louis Theroux documentary on her a while back and it was an interesting watch. She certainly stood up for what she believed in so fair play to her.

In the running to play James Bond in the 80s. A likeable actor with many good films - he was excellent in "The Hunt For Red October".

    Rest in peace Sam Neill.

    Acting legend and honorary 007.

RIP Sam Neil. Thanks for the memories! I really think he could've been a good James Bond if he wanted to.

RIP Sam Neil - should have been Bond after Moore, but that's history. Many people forget he was knighted. He was also born in Northern Ireland. A very fine actor who I always found watchable in whatever he did - even when it was tosh (Jurassic World: Dominion anybody?). He was brilliant in Dead Calm. Even better in Reilly, Ace of Spies. He will be missed.
