Really tried to figure out what makes it so bad for me. I have to say it's the editing (as has been mentioned before). The movie has it's moments where its nice to watch, but then BAM...........when there's an action sequence, the amount of different shots/angles becomes nauseating. I especially noticed this during the boat chase, opera, and plane dogfight. When I first saw it in the theatre, my favorite part was the knife fight, and on watching it again with the editing in mind, there were not too many different shots/angles compared to the other action scenes.
I really didn't like the way the editing tried to be "artsy" by switching back and forth between the opera death scene and the foot chase....I kept flashing back to the organic scenes in MR.

That may be the reason why, no matter how many times you watch QoS, you won't think of it any better.
Some "like" the editing, some just don't.
I, myself, love the editing. It came along nicely with the title- when you are looking for a quantum of solace, it's never done in a quiet, controlled way. It's furious and desperate, fast and wild. And the whole process is often very nauseating
Trust me there
-Carole Bouquet
Personally, Casino Royale (2006) is my overall favorite movie both in the Bond franchise and beyond. Quantum of Solace did fall short of that film, but I would say if Casino Royale is a 9.5/10, I would give QoS an 8/10. It borders on average dullness, but it makes it into my 'good' range and succeeds as a Bond Film to me. It has just enough style, moments, and plot justifications to make it fit for my tastes.

However, I have to say.... if QoS was supposed to be continued straight from CR - then why the difference in the suit? I can't believe they would overlook something so obvious.... looks to me like the continuity editor needs firing, and I will happily step in the role....

I think this explains everthing )

Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
CR seemed like 24 hours long.
Gay jack Bauer?....
Why do I have a sense of de ja vu?....
Which scene did u think of when you came up with this comment?
Hey no offense taken - I'm not like that
You are entitled to your opinion, though as they say, opinions are like a-holes, everyone's got one!
Actually I was asking genuinely- I can't see it myself, but that doesn make it untrue or plausible.
Seriously which scene do you think fits that viewpoint ? On either film?
But then, come to think of it, I might be mixing it up with Torchwood, there was certainly some kind of wood involved, ............................................................ In the title. )
It's the whole gay, actually perhaps gay is the wrong word, camp would be better as there are some pretty tough gay men out there.
He comes across to me as a very camp man trying not to be camp and trying to be a toughaction guy hence why I used Jack Baur as an example of who he is trying to be.
Oh and how can I forget the blue trunks coming out of the sea scene, camper than a row of tents.
Almost as camp as 'Big Tam's onesie in TB
Oops....meant GF of course.
Moores the point, if were actually talking camp why no rogering?
David Hyde Price as Niles Crane in Frasier is to me probaly the best character ever to appear on tvbut what Iam trying to say and perhaps not coming across to well is that CR and QOS and DC are supposed to be tough, dark ,gritty and how Fleming intended Bond to be[yeah right] and imo all that comes across to me is a pouting, camp actor trying to act tough.
With Rogers Bond it is kinda like The Scarlet Pimpernail, a foppish cover but underneath a tough guy.
Oh, I feel the leash straining.... and my bark is getting louder.... must resist... must resist. )
Your opinion. Your view on Craig..... Hope you have all the other Bond movies on DVD - caus it's going to be a long 4 years for you )
It's a hatchet job, most of it reserved for Marc Forster. Londoners can read it in the movie bookshop on St Martin's Lane, opposite Stringfellows.
Roger Moore 1927-2017
Really really hope the stuff about 23 is way off beam.
